Tomorrowland Overhaul Speculation

I've heard some folks suggest retheming Buzz to Hero's Duty from Wreck-It Ralph. Then again, I'm not sure how well that would fit in Tomorrowland.

Ant Man is a definite possibility but if you look at the way Marni said “wait til you see the proposal for Buzz” it sounds like something that people aren’t going to like or is maybe ironic - considering they removed Stitch encounter at MK. Of course, people won’t like Ant Man either if it’s anything like the Hong Kong version. Also I’m hoping that they keep Marvel stuff in Marvel Land. I think that’s what they re kind of going for. Not sure if they need 2 Marvel shooters at one resort. Stitch also makes sense for the merch sales. To be honest if my choices are Ant Man shooter from Hong Kong or Stitch Reskin I’m going with the Stitch reskin hands down.

I agree, if Ant Man comes to TL, it should be for a modern day ATIS.
Personally, I think it would be a mistake to re-skin Buzz with Ant-Man.

Tomorrowland needs a coherent theme way more than it needs Marvel.

While Buzz is on my attraction list for every visit, some sort of refresh couldn't come soon enough! I'm curious to know if anyone else feels this way, but Buzz seems consistently the dirtiest ride in the park on each of my visits. The vinyl wraps and over bright colors might contribute to the fact that to me it somehow feels off the standard. Not below perhaps, just like something you would find at a non-Disney place. There's just something off putting that I can't quite articulate.

On the other hand, I do like the Buzz Lightyear figure in the queue. I enjoy shooting the targets and competing with my group for the highest rank. Plus, there's little that's as deviously satisfying as watching a friend line up a shot and then tapping the spin lever! All this is to say that I can have fun on the ride. If I had to vote for a theme change I would go for the new Lightyear movie, strange as I think that film sounds. I would prefer not have Marvel in Tomorrowland. When I first saw video of Shanghai's Buzz, I felt like it better captured the concept's potential. From the tone that this new movie seems to have, I feel the logical end result of a refurbishment on that theme would be more appealing to me.

Disney has been aching for a legitimate sci-fi blockbuster IP to fuel a Tomorrowland revamp since the 80's. But their studio output has either fizzled at the box office (Tron, Tron Legacy, Brad Bird's Tomorrowland) or didn't quite fit the utopian ideals of the land (Armageddon, Marvel, Wall-E, Star Wars). Both DL and WDW have therefore become depositories for cartoony sci-fi.

But Lightyear... hmm... Depends on how it pans out, but it could let Disney have its cake and eat it too. An IP that appeals to a few generations of fans now, sells toys while ALSO looking less like "Galaxy's Quest brought to you by Duracell" and more like legit Star Trek or The Right Stuff.

I hope it's good!

i just wanna share something i made in ms paint real quick, not tomorrowland but its the land above it with nemo and autopia. I noticed that the little mermaid area from disneysea would fit in that area with room to spare. Now imagine creating that area, but have the building underground with the main pathway (yellow line) going under the lagoon with clear walls/ceiling like an aquarium, thus transporting you under the sea and into the massive building. you could keep the lagoon (would have to rebuild from ground up of course but size and shape is the same) get a huge area for kids to play in (and adults too) and then build a new land on top of it, thus getting 2 lands in one space. Maybe a beauty and the beast fantasy land expansion on top? What yall think? Obviously this would cost too much but I think its bee cool. The outside area of the lagoon could remain mostly there with the coaster and vibrant colorful rock work.

I am sure someone does or can. That is not a valid excuse.
They could even do it themselves, if they must.
I was all in favor of the Hong Kong transition from Buzz to AntMan, but the end result was so disappointing. Theoretically, yes, AntMan is a much better Tomorrowland fit than Buzz. It really could be a worthy successor to ATIS! But if it's anything like the dead Hong Kong version, keep it away.
Zoinks! Between this and the lukewarm reception to BATB, it looks like the decline has spread to the Asian parks, too. I also don’t think it would work well.

Weren't our (DL's) PM tracks scheduled for demolition at one point, pre-Covid???

Yes. I had it down starting around a year from now, pre Covid as you say.

A two phase project was proposed - remove the Peoplemover, retheme Star Tours and Buzz, then remove the subs and Autopia and add Tron. If the latter was a clone or something else I don’t know, things point to the latter.

This could be the only good thing to come from Covid.

From the WDW side of things, talking about DL Tomorrowland.

Yikes. “Remove Subs and Autopia” is very vague and frightening. The only good thing here is that the Tron proposal may not have been clone. Still, losing the lagoon, Auopia Forest and all of Autopia? Don’t like the the thought of it. I can live with a Buzz rethemd or new ride in that building. Still don’t see what they could possibly fit in the Star Tours building that would be a bigger hit for them for as long as Star Tours has.

yikes, those plans sound terrible imo. I hate subs and autopia but removing both of them for a tron coaster thats 1 minute long? Seems like a huge waste of space to me. Keep tron in Shnghai and Florida, tear down space mountina and rebuild it from the ground up with an illuminated canopy like tron.
