Tomorrowland Overhaul Speculation

I'd honestly bet that bulldozing Tomorrowland hasn't been a consideration since the Star Wars Overhaul rumored back in '13-14 was scrapped for GE.

I've always assumed a Tomorrowland redo would be mostly aesthetic changes made to the existing infrastructure, with something happening in the Carousel theater. I know ole' Shelly Vaillalalalalalaadolied over at Micechat has been throwing out rumors of a major Space Mountain rebuild but I don't see Disney investing that kind of money into their most popular attraction in the park that's really only 15 years old.

Good point. Come to think of it, I’ve never really thought a complete overhaul (minus Space Mountain) was in the cards either. I don’t see what motivation they would have to get rid of Star Tours or the simulators. Buzz is still a popular ride although it could use some love. Even if they decided to get rid of it I feel they would just stick another shooter or dark ride in that space. I think the front of the land would Have the same layout in any TL scenario. All the change would probably be near Innoventions/ Autopia/ Monorail/ Subs.

I agree with you both, I just don’t see what would be in it for Disney to do more than re-themes and cosmetic changes. Tomorrowland is always packed. It has probably the most popular ride in the park, another ride that is super popular, 3 more rides that are popular, and 2 restaurants that are always extremely busy.

A bulldoze isn’t likely to ever increase capacity or end up to be more popular than what’s already there now. So why would they shell out the cash to continue as they are?

I can see them retheming to try and drum up interest here and there, maybe replacing Buzz/Nemo with something that fits in the existing structure, and hopefully put Jedi Path and Innovations out of their mysery but I just can’t see them spending all that money to gut and redo. Especially after the lackluster performance of Star Wars.

If a new TL doesn’t bring back the People Mover or some form of moving attraction throughout the land it would be a failure in my eyes.

Honest question, in your eyes does an overhead moving walking work? Or how about just an area where there is movement overhead such as various Disney characters going by? So the real question is it more that you want an actual attraction for guest on the second level or do you just want the kinetic movement back overhead?

I want an attraction on the second level. Buzz lightyear walking up And down the abandoned people mover tracks wouldn’t quite cut it for me. Lol. Moving walkways for guests are cool too but they should be in addition to the attraction. I’ve always thought that Tomorrowland should have activity on 3 levels. That would really set it apart and make it feel alive.

Ok, I can appreciate that.

I honestly don't think it'll happen as I don't think Disney wants to do second level overhead attractions anymore.

But it would be cool if they did.

According to Martin sounds like there's a retheme of Disneyland's Buzz Lightyear that's been proposed:
Wait until you see the year long refurbishment of Buzz Lightyear in DLP.
Any updates coming to Florida?
I want to say there were plans, possibly so far as a change of theme. But I can’t find material to verify that at the moment.
My bad. I found my materials. The reskin was proposed for Disneyland.

OK. I'll confess. It might be my fault that Disney doesn't want second level overhead attractions anymore. As a pre-teen, I might have accidentally spit out of the Skyway once or twice.

Just hit me. It’s so obvious- the reskin proposal for Buzz must be Stitch

I think a version of that Ant Man shooter makes more sense- I mean Disney's reskinned a Buzz ride to Ant Man before so the precedent is set.

Even though it would be a huge missed opportunity to bring back an updated Adventure Thru Inner Space in the form of "Ant Man: Journey into the Quantum Realm" which could be a really amazing attraction if designed properly. And would fit perfectly into Tomorrowland, where the attractions should act as portals into different realms of science/Tomorrow- Journey into Space (Space Mountain, Star Tours), Journey into Liquid Space (Subs), Inner Space (Now gone).

Ant Man is a definite possibility but if you look at the way Marni said “wait til you see the proposal for Buzz” it sounds like something that people aren’t going to like or is maybe ironic - considering they removed Stitch encounter at MK. Of course, people won’t like Ant Man either if it’s anything like the Hong Kong version. Also I’m hoping that they keep Marvel stuff in Marvel Land. I think that’s what they re kind of going for. Not sure if they need 2 Marvel shooters at one resort. Stitch also makes sense for the merch sales. To be honest if my choices are Ant Man shooter from Hong Kong or Stitch Reskin I’m going with the Stitch reskin hands down.

I agree, if Ant Man comes to TL, it should be for a modern day ATIS.

I was all in favor of the Hong Kong transition from Buzz to AntMan, but the end result was so disappointing. Theoretically, yes, AntMan is a much better Tomorrowland fit than Buzz. It really could be a worthy successor to ATIS! But if it's anything like the dead Hong Kong version, keep it away.

Yup. At the very least I know my son would love a Stitch reskin and it would be much more whimsical than whatever the heck they just built in Hong Kong
