Tomorrowland new entrance

If Tron (or whatever) takes over Autopia and part of the Launch bay plot with the Space restaurant that means that most likely to have more than one new attraction one of Star Tours or Buzz has to go. My money would be on Buzz. I’m also operating under the assumption that they don’t Pave over the lagoon and that half of Autopia is for a Frozen expansion.

Agree with everything except 220 unless it’s cheesy (which it could very well be).
I kind of have a hard time thinking it would be "cheesy" unless they opt for cartoon spaceships full of Disney characters whizzing by. For me though, Tomorrowland just doesn't feel like the right place for a grandiose sit-down restaurant.
Unless I'm eating inside a futuristic spacecraft or something.

On the other hand, if they go all in with a retro-vibe, a Sci-Fi Dine-In would be very welcomed.

So now that we ve seen concept art for the new entrance and they took the time to rebuild these walls I guess we can all put to bed the idea of a complete TL Demo. The remaining questions are...

1. What goes where the Star Wars Launch Bay Plot is? Part of the Tron show building? Space 220 restaurant?

2. Is Space Mountain gutted and rebuilt with a new track?

3. How do they reconfigure the entire Space Mountain complex?

3. Does Star Tours survive a TL redo?

4. Does Buzz get axed, refurbed or updated Shanghai style?

5. Does the lagoon survive? I’m pretty sure Nemo doesn’t.

6. Does Autopia get axed, shrunk, or updated to something fitting of the 21st century?

7. Will they find a way to bring kinetic energy back to the land and will that be Tron or something original?

8. Do they move the Astro Orbiter, leave it where it is (please God no), put a new spinner as a weenie in the back of the land or no spinner at all?

9. What do they do with TL terrace?

10. If and most likely when the Monorail is rerouted, how much of the FL/ TL tour is eliminated?

11. Does Neon Mickey Survive?
I said the following a while ago. Not sure you read it. As for Tron, it could go where Launch Bay and the current Autopia station resides (with a new one built north of the Matterhorn).
It could be most economical for Disney to create a new Tomorrowland '67.

  • Star Tours becomes a new Rocket to the Moon, using the current ride system, but traveling elsewhere.
  • Buzz Lightyear becomes new Adventure Thru Inner Space, using the current ride system and track layout.

  • Remove the structural tacked-on elements of '98 (similar to what is happening in Florida).
  • Paint, using a lot of white.

  • The PeopleMover returns, updated to LIM for propulsion.

  • Space Mountain updated with new special effects.

  • Innoventions demolished to make room for new attraction.

  • Etc.

I've got a wild idea - Disney adds the "Black Box" attraction to TL. (Look at the WDW Studio threads if you don't know what that is.) And they open it as a resurrected Adventure Thru Inner Space. Good for the locals to get all nostalgic over; Trippy psychedelia goes well with a projection-based attraction.

Then, 6 months later, revise it to whatever flavor of the month IP they need to push. Ant-Man 4 or whatever.

By cheesy I mean if the screens aren’t believable and if they go overboard on some of the effects like an asteroid flying by every 30 seconds etc.

In addition to elevated walkways, I’ve always wanted an elevated restaurant With outdoor views in TL but I’ll settle for 220. I’ve always thought TL should be 3 levels high with guests having access to all 3 levels.

Yes, I proposed the same thing a while back.

A new what built north of Matterhorn?

Not to stir the pot, but I don’t think a new entrance or a redone wall puts to bed any complete demo of TL.

If anything the new entrance indicate more changes to come. What those will be who knows at this point. As for the walls redone, we don’t know the extent of the total work. If it was just the “tin” wall covering then that is nothing. If there was more actual building damage that might be something else. Also it might have been something that a recent inspection tagged as being required to fix. So there is that too.

Anyways the point is let us not assume these two projects are any indication of a TL future redo.

You forgot #12: Will the overgrown twin ficus trees at the entrance ever be scaled back to a reasonable size?

Are you sure you wanna bet against me again? I seem to usually win at these.

I agree. But it's quite possible that there could still be a 85% demo/rebuild of TL. But I doubt they'd go through the trouble of designing this new entrance and refurbing these metal walls if a 100% rebuild was in the cards.

Maintaining existing facilities is the responsibility of FAM (Facility Asset Management) which is part of the Resorts and not Walt Disney Imagineering. They’re not going to be involved in ideas for new projects. The Sun hubcap thing at Disney’s California Adventure was refurbished after Buena Vista Street was announced.

Yeah, but how long in between? Buena Vista Street was one of the last things to open (along with Carsland) years after the DCA refurb was announced.

I’d say more like 30-40%. I think the Main entrance stays pretty similar with the BLAB building and Star Tours/ Star Trader staying put. Space Mountain stays but the complex probably gets altered. I guess If you re counting acreage alone then you can get closer to the 85% because of Autopia but even then only half of that acreage will probably stay in TL. When I say 30-40% I’m talking about the main structures that make up TL.

Lol. I hope not. Then we ll see more of backstage as well as the BLAB building

I do prefer the more open vista of the Tomorrowland of my youth. When I was a kid those trees were much smaller yet you couldn't see backstage. Here's a vintage postcard image from the 70s. Notice how elegant the two buildings appear flanking the entrance without all that overgrown foliage.

Here's that view today from a slightly different angle. The buildings are almost completely obscured by those two massive trees. Even the Astro Orbiter is dwarfed by them.

That does look nice. I’d be curious to see a wider shot so I can see how the backstage area behind Plaza Inn and the BLAB (then Circle vision?) building look from the Hub

I think you edited in the other picture since I responded. Yeah I’m seeing your point now. They are very dominating.
