IMHO I would hate to see any of the old scenes of CoP go. To me they are classic and should stay. I dont have a solution either. But, I agree with most that the last scene is vary disjointed. Maybe play a movie in the final scene. Just a suggestion, and I know it sucks.

They can keep the scenes mostly the same as they are (same staging, same events, same time of the year) but alter them to reflect the different time periods. Here's how it could go: Turn of the Century, 1950s, 1980s/90s, Not-too-distant future.

I personally think they should restore the carousel to the original state and then build a second one showing from 1980, 1990, 2000, and the future. Just imagine the daughter talking on a 1980's cell phone, then a 90's, etc. And the boy playing Atari, Nintendo, Gameboy DS and then the new portable hand held systems of the future. Then show a record player, tape player, CD player, then MP3. For tv's, they can show an old console in the 80's, those big screens of the 90's, 2000's would have the flat panel, the future could be the 3D tv.
These could both be located in Epcot. I really believe that keeping the current one and restoring it to the World's Fair would show respect to Walt and adding a second one would should progression.

That's a great idea. Actually, move it to Epcot and expand it to show all of those. Make it a bigger carousel instead of 2. It would work and allow for the expansion of TL.

I always thought it would be a good fit somewhere on Main Street.

Bingo. Just about to say that myself. Obviously, this is a complete pie-in-the-sky idea, I think it would make a great fit into a Edison Square-esque of expansion of Main Street that connected into Tomorrowland. But that begs the question, what else would you put in there, what's the cost of losing that back of the house area, and is shifting CoP a few hundred feet southwest really worth it. Moving it to Innoventions does seem more plausible.

In terms of an aesthetic overhaul, I'm way more into the mid-century Space Age look than the spaceport or steampunk variants we've seen in other parks, but that's strictly an issue of personal preference. It doesn't strike me as being any more dated then any other lands in MK, but I'm a sap for retrofuturist schtick.

I'm just going to throw out my 2 cents on this: There's tomorrowland and there's Future World. They both need to have completely differnt purposes and goals or there is no point to having both. I think Future World needs to be continually updated with the newest, best information and technology (which appears to be what they are trying to do with it). Tomorrowland, on the other hand, should not try to keep up with the actual future. I think it needs to stay in that "this is what we thought the future would be" 70s format or the little kid version of the future- the space fascination and Jetsons-like motif.

I think they have done a good job (not great, but good) involving the applicable Disney movies into that motif and I think that's what they should be trying to do more of. I like that they put Buzz in there because I think it fits. I think it's a good idea toput a Wall-E attraction in there because it fits. In some weird way, I actually understand how Monster's Inc fits in there and I wouldn't move it. However, I also know that the Monster's Inc characters are at HS, so it would make sense to move one or other other so the characters were with their ride. So if they did move it, I'd like to see a Meet the Robinson's ride if they could come up with one because I think the theme also fits.

I don't think Tomorrowland needs a huge overhaul, but it'd be nice to get rid of the Stitch ride and put in a Wall-E or Meet the Robinson's ride there. I think they could also scrap that theatre behind Buzz and put something in back there maybe? Does that theatre even get used anymore? :veryconfu

Why not drop CoP in the middle of the WoL pavilion, and add some of the old Horizons sets to a couple "new" scenes? Already have a show building, and it would be cool to have the building utilized, all while making room in TL. I'm not a huge fan of seeing CoP in EPCOT, but I like it better than having CoP leave WDW.

I think people are missing the point in comparing TL and FW...

One is evolving technology and how it may be used...the other is a dream of a futuristic city. Tomorrowland in a sense is a much further stretch out from what Futureworld would be. Think of it like this...Horizons gave you a glimpse of what it might be like....TL let you live, ride it, and walk through it.

In some senses Future World has become less "how technology will be used" and more "how industry works". So it really isn't represented as "the future" other than the land and maybe mission space

Lets face it:
Spaceship Earth = Past Communication, with an inkling of current and future.
The seas = Aquarium
The Land = How we are solving agricultures problems, and a handglider
Imagination = How the 80's were really colorful
U.O.E. = How we keep burning million year old fuels
Mission Space = Star tours on steroids without the story
Test Track = How industry currently manufactures cars (which explains why it's broke half the time)

Innoventions harbors most of the "up and coming" stuff, but is hardly visited compared to the rest.

Tomorrowland was a dream of what may come...now it's an endless cartoon giftshop. The monorail is more futuristic then anything in TL...and it's over 40 years old!!

It's sad, because it's going to take a carsland level (scope and money wise) refurb to get TL back to some sort of update that would be up to Walt's standard. And I don't think they will spend that chunk on TL right after dropping coin on FLE.

I really would love to see it. But I have a feeling that we will either see the continuing cannibalism of TL by cartoon characters until it turns into a Pixar Playland, or they'll just refurb what they currently have and not touch the aesthetic.

They need to really get creative...I would really love to see them bring futurists and cutting edge architects to consult on what we may see in 100 years....so we can experience it now.

i meant disoveryland at disneyland paris. kind of steampunk style.

i also think that carousel of progress should be turfed out. sorry, but i even think if Walt were to come back to the park now, id imagine him being all "why is this old thing still here???" taking its name into account not to mention the actual "ride portion" it really is rather ironic.

im a bit tired of all the purists wanting to keep this and keep that because of all the memory's they once had. what about the kids today??? freshen it up. just keep the character based stuff to a minimum...

They could totally update a few scenes in COP...I would love to hear Tom Hanks as the voice of the dad...

I want to preface this by stating I am a huge science fiction fan. Ever since I was a kid the wonderful view of the future has been intriguing.

I just don't know if it works thematically anymore. Just look at society, we put out a handful of good science fiction movies each year, but all portray this distopian view of what lies ahead. Where are the grand beautiful visions of what the future holds? There just isn't a cultural drive to do the clean fun Disney version of tomorrow.

We want the Hunger Games or Battlestar Galactica. Says a lot where we all believe we are headed culturally.

I think that is why the "alien" tomorrowland will work at the Magic Kingdom thematically. It can be this silly, fun, and fantastic view of a place that doesn't exist. It can be stylized and is a broad theme that doesn't have to be constantly updated because it is alien, not today's future.

Future World suffers a similar problem. If only we would have gotten Project Gemini... :lookaroun

Why not make the last scene of COP the House of Innovations? Then put something new in the HoI place, a new gamong technology or something.

According to Disney, the updates they've been giving Tomorrowland are based on what the kids of today want. Monsters Inc, Stitch, Buzz Lightyear. Kids are into characters. I think their needs have been met!

I say that half-jokingly. Really, of all the lands, Tomorrowland should get an aesthetic upgrade once every decade to keep it futuristic. Or at LEAST every 2 decades. When was the land last upgraded...'94? 1994??? Come on Disney, you can do it!

Here are my thoughts:

-Replace SGE with a new and improved AE.

Alien encounter was okay, but it is based on a movie that most people don't really remember much about outside of the alien being a tongue. TL needs less movie tie-ins, not replacing one with another.

-Move Laugh Floor to Pixar Place at DHS and either brinb back TK or put in a new attraction that doesn't have any character tie-ins please.

I don't see TK being put back in, but they could still use the space as a 360 theater again. They could try to have it as a 3d theater, with seating in the middle. I could say they can use walt's vision of epcot as the jumping off point for the view of housing and city development in the future.

-Bring back old TTA spiel. And just keep it to TTA rather than the "Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover" crap.

Agreed, maybe just update / make the speedway and vehicles better looking. Not the horrible hotrods in dl, but something that doesn't say 60's. I would say the pods from the incredibles but only use them as an inspiration.

-Put a new entrance to Buzz in the old Galaxy Palace Theater are and expand the ride. Plus update the ride with trackless technology and make it more emmersive with less cardboard cutout characters and more animatronics.

If they keep buzz, they need to update it to be on par with tsmm. This also will allow disney to run different games to keep some excitement.

-Update CoP so the scenes progress through turn of the century, fifties, 80s/90s, then the not-too-distant future. And add "Tomorrowland Metro Retro Historical Society" themeing around the building.

I would like to see disney keep the classic three scenes. They could have the 4th scene changed to a christmas around this past year and include kinect, skype, laptops, smartphones, tablets/ e-readers, home automation, and flat screens. Part of what hurts increasing the duration of one scene is that every scene is increased. Right now every scene is 4 minutes long, so total time is 24 with loading an unloading. If disney tries to add a 7th scene, they would need to redo all of the sets and reduce the seating capacity of the theater. If they make the unloading scene a look into what the future can be, the extended time would be multiplied by 6 and require more being done in each scene. They could touch on travel more with cars, trains, planes, and ships but I don't know how they could fill in another 3 or 4 minutes. It would be awkward as anything to go from the 50's to 2025.

-Build a pizza resteraunt in the place of the old skyway building.

Why do pizza when you have something like wd~50 that fits into the theme more?

-Tear down Stitch stage.

That has been gone for sometime, it would be better if they make the blast off exit into a secondary walkway between main street and TL.

-Give SM the proper update it deserves with new track, onboard music, futuristic themeing, and new encounters.

A new style of track would be better for SM, it kind of hurts it that SM uses the same structure as wild mouse rides. They also need to have a lim launch in the tunnel and push the tracks to the edges of the building.

-Rather than replace Speedway with a crappy Carsland, retheme it to "Cosmic Highway" with electric cars and futuristic themeing.

Sounds good, though I would like to see the speedway capped with a racing type track with futuristic cars with an attraction above it that looks at the future of transportation. Also have the two somewhat merged by guests of both seeing each other.

-Replace Comsic Ray's with Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall like the one in TDL which would technically be apart of Fantasyland and would make the "enchanted grove" area have more cohesive themeing. Plus it would compliment the nearby Tea Cups better.

Or how about just change the facade on the FL side and maybe have an outside tea room terrace.

Those are my thoughts, keep in mind, they're done with a "money is no object" mentality.

[/QUOTE]

Well it isn't our money, most of our designs show this.

New final scene with some iPad 3's, a 17" Mac book and an Apple tv and get Apple to be the new sponsor.

And go through another GE white-washing? Stevo died, disney lost the connection to apple with that.

Based on a movie? No, it was original. One of the few rides that was fully original.

It was going to be based on the movie Alien, and then they canned that concept and developed their own world and mythology.

I really wish they kept it. I would have loved to experience that ride one more time.
