Tomorrowland-New D & E Ticket and Aesthetic overhaul

Here are my thoughts:

-Expand the avenue of the planets themeing into the rest of the land

-Replace SGE with a new and improved AE.

-Move Laugh Floor to Pixar Place at DHS and either brinb back TK or put in a new attraction that doesn't have any character tie-ins please.

-Bring back old TTA spiel. And just keep it to TTA rather than the "Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover" crap.

-Put a new entrance to Buzz in the old Galaxy Palace Theater are and expand the ride. Plus update the ride with trackless technology and make it more emmersive with less cardboard cutout characters and more animatronics.

-Update CoP so the scenes progress through turn of the century, fifties, 80s/90s, then the not-too-distant future. And add "Tomorrowland Metro Retro Historical Society" themeing around the building.

-Build a pizza resteraunt in the place of the old skyway building.

-Tear down Stitch stage.

-Give SM the proper update it deserves with new track, onboard music, futuristic themeing, and new encounters.

-Rather than replace Speedway with a crappy Carsland, retheme it to "Cosmic Highway" with electric cars and futuristic themeing.

-Replace Comsic Ray's with Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall like the one in TDL which would technically be apart of Fantasyland and would make the "enchanted grove" area have more cohesive themeing. Plus it would compliment the nearby Tea Cups better.

Those are my thoughts, keep in mind, they're done with a "money is no object" mentality.

The Speedway seems like the one thing that could easily become an actual look at TOMORROW. Not sci-fi entertainment, like everything else. The idea of some kind of electric or another zero-emission vehicle type is so obvious, and frankly easy -- this is an amusement ride, not real life cars.

And yet it's stuck with the high technology of the 70s. So depressing.

That's one of the things that Disney's lost through the years -- the intersection of fun and education. Now we've just got cartoons for cheap entertainment.

Then explain Honda's sponsership of Autopia in Hong Kong.:animwink:

I don't know anything about the contract, but it's possible (even probable) that GM's exclusivity would only apply to WDW.

I saw this article, and it said something to the effect of "Everyone knows Avatarland at Animal Kingdom is on hold." I disregarded it at that point, because I'm someone, and I didn't know this. There's a lot of speculation of people saying that it will get canceled before it goes vertical, but I've seen nothing that looks legitimate. Then again, I haven't been paying too much attention lately.

That said, I think that, out of the Magic Kingdom lands, Tomorrowland should be by far first in line for an overhaul. In an ideal world, Speedway gets a huge improvement and Stitch gets replaced, as a base. From there, do whatever. If they want to move the Laugh Floor or add something, fine by me. The Speedway and Stitch are definitely must-fixes, in my book.
If Avatar is moving to Tomorrowland, awesome. I think I like it a bit better there than at AK. Even better, Avatar gets thrown out completely, and we get a Tron ride at Tomorrowland.

Winnie the Pooh in theaters last year and new release = Winnie the Pooh Refurbishment
Beauty and The Beast in 3D and new release = BatB attractions coming soon
Blu-ray release of Dumbo = Dumbo attractions
Blu-ray release of Little Mermaid = LM attractions coming soon
Blu-ray release of Snow White? = 7DMT
(produced by James Cameron) Titanic in 3D April 4th, 2012, in HD, and Blu-ray release plus the sequals to Avatar = Avatarland a go?

Hmmmm.... excellent observation. I love data-driven arguments. Good play.

I hope that if we keep talking about this the positive vibe will somehow make its way to Glendale.

The land as a whole though isn't a disaster thematically. At least I don't think it is. It is the best atmosphere at night. I just want another ride.

Exactly, I think it was said earlier in this thread that the theme is fine the way it is, but the attractions suck. Well at least one sucks (stitch) and another thematically doesnt fit (laugh floor). It is the coolest land after the sun sets, it just needs some fresh attractions.

... and a new final scene to COP!

New final scene with some iPad 3's, a 17" Mac book and an Apple tv and get Apple to be the new sponsor.

But then you will have to change it in 6 months when the I-pad 4 comes out. And then 5, and 6, and again and again and again and again......... So much change so quick would give someone at TDO a heart attack!

But these are the types of things that should happen. Spending $500-1000 every time a new model comes out shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure they could even get shells of non-functioning electronics. It's not like these things actually have to work.

I personally think they need to change the time periods of several of the scenes in CoP like I mentioned above. Currently it goes from the turn of the century to the 1950s and then makes HUGE jump to the "not-too-distant future." It skips about a half a century of progress.

Agreed. We have passed so much now that it is time for a rewrite and of course in return healthy refurb of the show to where we are not skipping multiple decades between scenes.

IMHO I would hate to see any of the old scenes of CoP go. To me they are classic and should stay. I dont have a solution either. But, I agree with most that the last scene is vary disjointed. Maybe play a movie in the final scene. Just a suggestion, and I know it sucks.

I think it would make more sense to make TL a retro look at the future forward and have COP as it originally was in the '64 World's Fair. You don't need a Future World and Tomorrowland....

My crazy idea for the CoP actually involves moving it to EPCOT. The theme of CoP fits that park better. Leave the CoP site at the MK as an expansion site for a new TL E-ticket ride (a clone of whats planned for DL's CoP / Innoventions building site).

CoP would go into a gutted North East quadrant of Innoventions. Only the renamed Electric Umbrella facility would remain. The building would be expanded out back as needed (on the Universe of Energy side) to accommodate the CoP theater size. All CoP scenes would be fully refurbished. A nice pre-show would be added for an interior queue / load area explaining (briefly) the history of the attraction.

The final scene would still be a refreshed year 2000 scene. Followed by the closing scene (with just the curtains and CoP logo) which would be changed to have the father invite guests across the plaza to Innoventions where they can discover how "progress continues to impact and improve our lives." This would allow CoP to remain frozen in the 1900's but still be thematically appropriate while the Innoventions side will serve to represent evolving technology (progress!) in the 21st century.

Innoventions across the plaza would now take over all the Western Innoventions sites. Only the Character Spot and Ice cream shop remain. The Coke Cool Zone would relocate to World Showcase where it is more thematically appropriate.

The whole area would be rebranded "Progress City". An homage to the past! The Electric Umbrella would be renamed the Inventor's Cafeteria. It would receive a minimal face list with refreshed paint / carpet with posters/banners added inside celebrating famous inventors and their creations.

Pin Central will become Progress City Pin Center

Well, CoP used to fit the theme of Tomorrowland before characters invaded. Now the only thing remotely "tomorrow" is the People Mover, and it doesn't really live up to its potential. Space Mountain attempts to tell a story of future travel in space in a fantasy-type way, which is fine. One could kinda say the same of the Astro Orbiter. But Buzz, Stitch, and Monsters have nothing to do with "tomorrow"--most especially Monsters. And what's "futuristic" about the Speedway, anyway?

I personally think that if Walt were still alive, he'd be the first to say that the scenes in CoP need to be updated. I bet he wouldn't hesitate to remove scenes and add new ones. At this point, the CoP should showcase the turn of the 20th century, mid-20th century, turn of the 21st century, and then a new vision of the future--one that could be easily updatable each decade. Keeping it as a "museum" would not be something I think Walt would approve of. Even if Disney entertained the idea of moving it to EPCOT, the problem of it being "dated" would still be there--and after all, isn't that what they set out to supposedly "resolve" about Future World, anyway? I have to agree, though, that the idea has merit--despite my fierce defense of Future World and cry to have it restored to something worthy of its past glory.

Add me to the list of people who would like to see the COP restored to it's former glory from 1964. I mean, the attraction is currently not meant to display actual tomorrow. It's presented as a classic attraction designed by Walt himself. It needs to stay that way...
