Tomorrowland Ball Back

Cool, glad to see it back! I don't think we've ever spun it, we have just always walked right on by it. We'll have to give it a shot in August.

Next up I want them to bring back the Pleakley figure that was in Tomorrowland near a DVC kiosk. We used to get our kids pictures next to it each year.

And again, 2 of us complainers responded here in this thread. Disney is cheap, and they make cheap moves all the time. If we don't complain BEFORE actions are taken, then it'll be removed, and then what good does complaining do? The damage is done. Look at Imagination, it took a billion complaints before they did something to "fix" it, and it's still blah.

Once again the cynacism is "justified" by citing past decisions of a management structure that no longer exists.

Here is an example. Some say that an instance of Disney being "cheap" is the new roof on the tea cups which does not reflect the artwork. But consider that it is entirely possible this is an interin step that had to be taken because the old roof was in such poor condition. The annual budget and other considerations may have prohibited them from adding the roof from the concept art from being added immediately. That does not translate to Disney being "cheap". It just means that there are many factors that go into these projects and complex logistics that none of us here are aware of.

The overall track record the last few years reflects anything but "cheap". Consider that the DCA project and now the FLE are occuring without any major cuts in the worst economy in memory. You and others are making claims that are completely baseless.

Great to see it made a return. By the way, does anyone know how much it weighs? I was wondering this when I saw on the previous thread when people imported pictures of the strong man competition photos relating to the sphere.

Marble weighs about 160 lbs per cubic foot. If we estimate the diameter of the sphere at 4' the weight would come in at just shy of 5300 lbs. If that diameter is increased to 5' we would be looking as just a tick from 10,500 lbs.

Thank you. More trivia my brain can absorb and I can fascinate others with.

Is this a solid sphere or has it been hollowed out and reinforced with a lighter material?

No idea. I always assumed that it was solid as I can not really think of a way to cut a marble sphere that size in half, hollow it out and glue it back together.

EDIT. It might be possible with cultured marble.

So...where are all of the folks that were insisting that the ball was being removed due to Disney's cheapness and not getting refurbed?

Yeah ... um ... nobody insisted that. The closest anyone came to saying that was me, and I said I was "guessing" it was being removed because of them being cheap and that it was a more likely inference than them simply doing a standard refurb.

Below, from the "Ball is Gone" thread.

I don't like or dislike the ball (completely apathetic towards it), but I'd have to guess this is another example of Disney ditching non-essential water effects because they are too cheap to do the routine maintenance.

Isn't it equally likely that this is some of that routine maintenance?

Now everybody can decide for themselves.

Thanks for this. It gets really old when there are so many that pop off without any knowledge whatsoever and when they get called on it, they hide behind semantics like I didn't "insist."

It is hard to wade through the flotsam and jetsam to get to actual information. It's tiring.

Oh boy! This really makes up for the 20 years of no new E-ticket rides at MK!

Glad we got a big E-ticket ball back in Tomorrowland
