Prayer go out to all that are affected by this earthquake and tsunami. Reports are comming in that TDL and TDS are beginning to flood, and the TDS carpark was destroyed.

Rehearsal for Fantasmic tonight has been canceled due to the earthquakes here in Japan. It was crazy. The team is fine here. A little shaken up but doing fine. The parks have shut down.

Here is some other info:

Japan Hit By Major Earthquake and Tsumani. Tokyo Disneyland Resort Affected.

The major earthquake that hit Japan has had an effect on the Tokyo Disneyland Resort. According to reports the car park has been hit by an effect called "liquefaction" causing it to be drenched with water-logged segments from the ground. There were 69,000 people in Tokyo Disneyland at the time but there are no reports of injuries. Twitter user Rezaikram has Tweeted a few pictures like the one below of guests camped out in the public areas of the park. He reports that guests have not been allowed to leave the park.

5:00AM Pacific Time Update: Disney Parks Creative Entertainment exec Steven Davison (who is at Tokyo Disneyland for Fantasmic rehearsals) posted on his Facebook page that they have been told the parks will be closed on Saturday so officials can inspect for damage.
Disney's Aulani hotel (still under construction) is on the side of Hawaii that faces Japan so that is something to watch as the tsunami from the earthquake approaches Hawaii. It's due to reach the island at 5:07 AM Pacfiic Time.

Latest articles say that the guests are just stranded in open areas of the park due to the flooding and the major train connecting to TDL being closed. I know it's at least past 7PM there now, so not sure what arrangements they're going to make, but I sure would hate to be working in Guest Relations right now.

I wouldn't want to be working at dlt right now in general. I don't know how guests could scream at guest relations, they didn't cause the earthquake or design the park. Now if this happened at wdw, I bet there would be people pitching a fit and saying they are going to sue.

Well I'm sure people in Tokyo's guest relations are probably a lot more calm, because Japanese are very respectful and don't tend to yell or get upset over things most of the time

From the Disney Parks Blog-

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...o-disney-resort-aulani-and-the-disney-wonder/

As many of you know, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck near the coast of Japan on Friday and Tokyo Disney Resort was one of the many areas affected. Fortunately our team on the ground has reported only minor injuries and minimal property damage at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. The safety of our guests and cast members is always our first concern so both parks will remain closed on Saturday to allow for a thorough inspection of our attractions and facilities. Cast members at the Tokyo Disney Resort are also providing humanitarian aid in the form of blankets, food and water for guests who are still at the resort due to the transportation challenges associated with the earthquake.
Because of the quake’s effect on the waters of the Pacific, the Disney Wonder’s itinerary was altered slightly due to the closure of the Port of Cabo. Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, currently under construction in Ko Olina, Hawai’i, was not impacted.
Our thoughts and sympathy go out to our guests, fellow Disney cast members and all of the people in Japan affected by this terrible disaster. We’ll share any additional information today by posting updates at the top of this page.

Exactly. It's quite a different culture, and everyone takes it in stride.

Compare that to the last minor quake in Southern Cali, where CMs who post on another forum said Guests were coming into Guest Relations demanding all kinds of refunds and extra compensation because all the attraction were closed for post-earthquake inspection, which is set procedure whenever they have a quake.

This is why you get travel insurance when taking a vacation in an earthquake zone.

Closing likely has something to do with rolling blackouts & allowing cast to attend to their families & personal lives. I don't think any of Disney's parks across the globe have ever been in the position Tokyo's currently are with proximity to such a massive mega-disaster. This feels like new ground.

My heart truly goes out to everyone over there. It's not just the loss & fear of what could come, it's the uncertainty in survival. I've had a taste of that. I cannot imagine what it's like on that kind of scale.
