Tokyo Disneyland Resort Expansion

Any rumors of TDR reopening??? USJ has been open for a week I think. Are cases still rising around TDR’s area.
Nope, no news about reopening yet. The last statement OLC put out was right after Japan lifted its state of emergency and they basically just said in a vague way they were going to keep closed until further notice.

Cases in Tokyo area are way down compared to where they were a couple months ago, there are occasional rises that are keeping people afraid of a second wave but nothing exponential.

I often like to look at Disney Parks and sort of Imagine how/what could be expanded. It seems like there is actually another plot of land.
Right next to Toy Story Mania:

I always felt like that area could fit some more Toy Story I.P. and create a sort of mini Toy Story area, but of course, in the same New York Carnival/Circus/Trolley Park themed context. I think it could fit a wooden coaster...a more romanticized version of a Slinky Dog Coaster.
Maybe a vintage-train-toy inspired coaster built on wooden toy cube-like structures, but have it be more thrilling.
This could be an inspirational pic if you will:

Lol, I don't know...just some Food for thought.
I think a Vintage Toy Box type wooden roller coaster with a bit of Disney magic could end up being cool and exciting AND unique.
The last major pad is the one west of SeaRider and south of IJA, which was originally planned for a Frozen port. After that, the pad between Soarin and Arabian coast will open up, due to the new Power Plant in Fantasy Springs. After that, I guess they can start getting creative with this parking.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Area behind Soarin'.
From my understanding, there is some kind of development (was), for either an Aladdin ride or a Mermaid ride.

maybe they could go with the glacier bay type area for the pad by IJA now frozen is going to a more fantasyland area. Could be a good place for a matterhorn style coaster for TDR.

if you added in the magic lamp theatre youd have another sizeable space for multiple rides in the arabian coast/mermaid lagood pad maybe aladdin and mermaid dark rides?

If Tokyo DisneySea had one major coaster it will be unbeatble, cause it is perfect already.
Hate to burst your bubble, But OLC Will not be doing anymore extreme rides and they have stated it in a number of interviews, Instead all of Future Attractions would be a) Disney-Family Friendly ride
b) Tower of terror was the last Thrill ride for TDR.

As for marvel stuff in TDR the answer is a NO.
OLC already stated that they dont have any interests outside of the Disney/Pixar/Starwars IP.

For example The Dreaming Up! Parade. Its a pure Disney parade with No Pixar nor Starwars IP.

and Fantasyland and Fantasy Springs expansions its all DISNEY.

I mean, Disney hasn't built a thrill ride in several years at any of their parks (not counting RnRC rethemes). Everything is for the family, including coasters. So major family coasters are still on the table.

Oh, I didn't know that there was a third expansion area. Nice.

For some reason, this excites me 🤣 .
I am not such a major thrill fan, I like charming, family type rides, as long as it takes your breath away.
Also, I love that OLC taps more into the older Disney catalog. I feel like they are such trendsetters somehow, because they take on certain projects the Disney Company would NOT, and they always end up being successful, so Disney follows in their step.
(Who would have thought expanding on the Peter Pan and Beauty and the Beast IPs?)

I feel like OLC knows what their fans want, better than the Disney company itself which...is pretty Ironic.
I would love to know what the thought process is when they decide to expand. Maybe they just let the Imagineers decide for them without interfering with their vision, unlike the BUDGET CUT HUNGRY american piers.

EDIT:
Those Marvel attractions...will NOT age well. In 15 years, they will feel washed out. We need MORE instant classics.
Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, Frozen, Tangled, Snow White, Ariel, even Mickey&Minnie. These will endure the test of time.
Now all I can dream of is a POCAHONTAS ride  (Would love that in Paris, in a Bear Country setting, but anywhere in the world would still be okay).

While I wouldn't expect anything super intense, nor would I want them to add something akin to a Mako or an Iron Gwazi, I do think that DisneySea would benefit from a genuine roller coaster that is themed in the hilt.

I've always thought it odd that TDS' roller coasters are so minor and half-hearted compared to most of the rest of the park. One proper roller coaster would help the park feel more complete, IMO.

Big Thunder and Space don't seem unpopular next door, so I'm not sure what would cause them to be completely against such a thing. Have they had complaints that TOT or that some of the existing attractions are too intense?

I'm not asking them to build Flying Dinosaur (which yes, different branding, expectations, etc but it's clearly gone over well at USJ), but a good roller coaster is something very clearly missing in that park. One of the only things, in my view.

Agreed! Something like Space Fantasy at USJ wouldn’t hurt the park at all. Please no Flying Dinosaur! Lol

Especially for coaster fans, which Raging Spirits isn’t really a good coaster and their only thrilling one.

I read that it was a response to the aging population of Japan and the general guest demographics of TDR vs another theme park like USJ. They mentioned moving forward they want attractions that the entire family can enjoy together, particularly the grandparents. I'm not sure if that necessarily rules out all attractions with a height requirement though. Raging Spirits and Tower of Terror are very popular with a core segment of the guests, but they failed to increase attendance at the park in a significant way like Toy Story Mania did.

There's no chance that they go with no height-requirement options for all future rides. That would limit the design team a little too much.

TDS has gone a bit too deep into the Princess direction... BUT Moana seems the most obvious low hanging fruit for the remaining plot.
Actually Tokyo DisneySea had a lack of Disney Integration, and Family Friendly Attractions thats why They had Family friendly rides like Searider and Turtle Talk with crush plus Toy story Mania.

And they're not going to stop anytime soon With the 70 year extension of their contract suggests we can see more recent Disney characters within the parks.

Sorry, I meant in light of the current expansion plans. It used to be a fairly non-Disney/Animated Park, but that is really not the case once this round is over.

It's pretty much Magic Kingdom 2.0.

A Treasure Cove style port is another possible option given the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise in Japan. That an attraction already exists at TDL shouldn't be a major issue since they are allowing Peter Pan to represent both parks.

Looking at the plot of land next to Indy, it kinda appears a bit too small for another big port like that. You can barely fit an Indy-sized ride there, much less a whole land (unless they reroute the monorail and service road, but even that doesn't allow for much extra space).

Depending on how efficiently they utilize the extra space, there's up to 14 acres of land to work with. That's double the size of Arabian Coast.
