Tokyo Disneyland Resort Expansion

I'm anything but an expert TDR and welcome input from others but have been stalking everything TDR for years to assist with planning for my trip next year. My general observation are...
  • Fantasy Springs Hotel has cannibalised occupancy especially at the DLH
  • Fantasy Spring had a bit of Galaxy's Edge issue where all of the complications to get in seems to have subdued demand
  • Fantasy Springs Hotel is also not getting great reviews and the opening of Fantasy Springs has also hurt reviews and satisfaction for TDS as an overall. There are also many online reviews complaining about the huge complexity and/or cost of Premier Access, Anniversary Pass, Entry Request etc.
  • Locals are still very disappointed by the lack of any Annual Passes and when they do attend the lack of entertainment specifically in TDS compared to pre-COVID
I've also seen these issues reiterated online but both anecdotally and from videos online it seems like this December is one of, if not the most, busy Decembers the resort has ever had right? Even from our December trip in 2019, the demand and congestion this year felt higher. It also felt exponentially higher than December 2023 and definitely Feb 2023 as well.

Merchandising sales seem to be on pace for that as well, we had no issue finding special event and seasonal merchandise released a few weeks, sometimes months, before our trip in December 2023. This year there was absolutely nothing from weeks before. And that was with no annual passes and also pretty strict sales limited to tickets. They released generic magnets while we were there and within three days they were completely sold out resort wide.

So I'd be a little surprised to find out OLC is considering this a disappointment in general, though I do think the Hotel is a major disappointment and isn't deserving of its price point. It's also hard to recommend the park to someone new given all the insane hoops you currently have to jump through to experience attractions.

I can see the US parks not getting Peter Pan and Frozen since we have those (both at WDW and just Pan in DL) but I wonder if we will ever get the Tangled ride. Epcot maybe? What do you think?

I would definitely prefer a variation of the ride, just so it's not a carbon copy of Tokyo Disney's. I'm not a fan of cloned attractions because I feel like it takes away from other parks while just adding another popular ride to WDW, it honestly negatively effect both parks, with WDW's overuse of E-Tickets and the smaller park's overall appeal to outside audiences, Tron is a perfect example of my problem with cloning rides. I would also want a variation because World Showcase already has two water rides, so adding a third one over a traditional dark ride doesn't feel like the right call. I love the idea of adding a Tangled dark ride though and maybe Magic Kingdom would work better, mainly because Tangled doesn't feel like it represents the German pavilion all to well, maybe a Snow White ride would work better instead? But I made a map using the space where it could fit and I used the building for the Disney Sea ride, along adding a Whip flat ride themed around Flynn Rider.

I'd kind of hate that.

I'd be okay with adding the ride alone (even if I wouldn't love it), but definitely not on board with adding essentially a mini-Fantasyland on the back of the Germany pavilion (or any pavilion).

I was just making a map of someone else's idea, that's why in the post I suggested putting it in Fantasyland instead.

So, an interesting Article on OLC shareholders report has recently been released, A question was based on one of its shareholders asking OLC What are the longterm plans for the resort.

OLC`s response( as for longterm plans for the resort we have announced 2 new experiences, An attraction Based on Sugar Rush and an Update to Space mountain and its surroundings. As for the future offerings to the resort we will be making an announcement on our next Shareholders meeting not just Tokyo DIsneyland Park but also including Tokyo DIsneySea).

The next shareholders meeting is set on April of 2025 and another one in Autumn 2025.

My Theory is that we will be getting a reveal for the 25th Anniversary celebrations at Tokyo DisneySEA offerings and new shows announcement.

and Autumn 2025 A Major expansion for the 2 parks.

Maybe there could be a land expansion that connects the two parks together, they're close to each other and the land could have an entrance to Critter Country at Disneyland and one near Arabian Coast at Disney Sea.

If they are already planning expanding Tokyo DisneySea, a Polynesian area with Moana and Stitch would fit perfectly with the theme (and then they could remove Stitch live from Disneyland avoiding having a Stitch attraction in Adventureland and another in Tomorrowland).

Does TDS have much more room for expansion at this point? I'm not familiar with the pads left at either park.

Next to Lost River Delta. And maybe the parking lot behind Midway Mania.

Nothing as big as Fantasy Springs though. The last expansion possibility remaining in the current resort area beyond the above two are the OLC offices, but I assume those would be earmarked for a Rivers of America expansion or replacement.
