Tokyo Disneyland Resort Expansion

Heh, it’s just the first few months. There’s always a lot of enthusiasm for every new addition.
But yeah, I did splurge on a vacation package for my December visit because it’s gonna be the lady’s first visit and she loves Tangled. I didn’t tell her anything about the parks yet, just that it’s better than WDW and DLP 😂

I mean. I’ve heard it from lots of other sources.

OLC has seemingly made the process to visit Fantasy Springs super convoluted and expensive.
BatB was even worse when it opened. It was a one-time random lottery. If you lost that was your only chance to experience it. You'd have to buy another park ticket and come back to have another chance. A lot of the stage shows are still operated this way.

How do we know? Super Nintendo World at USJ still operates on a timed entry system over 3 years since opening. Granted it's not always required and it's not particularly difficult to get, but still. I think times have changed and this is going to be normal for all new additions now.

I agree. I think they are going to milk Fantasy Springs for all it is worth using the methods they are currently using for as long as they can. They must be making a fortune from Vacation Packages and Premier Access.

This is what I hate about virtual que... Like Tokyo Disney's lottery system it only gives you a chance of experiencing the attraction.

I think it's wrong to market something as the reason to come visit Walt Disney World. And then they do. Only to find out they have to be able to get a virtual que and if not then try to pay extra.

Doing that to any new Marquee attraction at Tokyo Disneyland is sad. When I was there they only did it to shows and I was disappointed to miss some shows because of it. I can't imagine if I flew all the way to Tokyo Disneyland and try the new beauty and the beast ride only to find out it was lottery and....... I don't win that chance. I would be very upset.

This only makes me validate my critique of putting a new Walt Disney World Marquee attraction (Tron, Guardians, TBA, etc...). I may be Logan so I will live another day but I really feel for all those who are not. Are coming down for these attractions, and hopefully they get them on the day they have a ticket for the park.

So much for caring about the experience that the family from Denver is having.

Yeah, I had to book Fantasy Springs Hotel. I did really enjoy the hotel (70,000 yen worth, not so sure…) but the entire thing definitely soured me on how OLC runs the Tokyo parks. There were a lot of little things that, operationally, the domestic parks do much better.

1)Fantasy Springs controls/restrictions
2)Queue closures well before park closing
3)Lottery for shows
4)Extreme limitation on park hopping
5)Show closures

…….any other significant operations that disappoint the guest??

On top of those, operational hours (like popcorn stands or quick-service) and hotel policies tend to have less clarity than the American parks. I’m still not sure if Fantasy Springs guests get happy entry at TDL, because I was denied when I attempted even though I asked the FSH staff multiple times.

Operations in general are slower, but that’s true for all of Japan’s parks. Food operations especially are dismal, and unfortunately the food at TDR tends to be much worse than WDW’s, and I’m not exactly a fan of WDW’s quick service. Mobile orders help, but not by much. Additionally, the new version of the app is absolute garbage. Don’t remember if that was the case in 2019.

I want to visit Tokyo Disney for the theming, rides, and TDS, but the Ops I always hear about makes me so nervous / hesitant.
It’s still incredible and 100% worth it, it’s just not the “everything is SO much better than back home” that some would have you believe. Many forget that OLC is not a benevolent corporation!

It’s absolutely fine, it’s just OLC gets put on a an unrealistic pedestal by a lot of the fan base.

OLC has a lot of the issues that most Japanese corporations struggle with: slow to modernize, highly resistant to change and aversion to accommodating foreigners.

A question.... I vaguely remember a Fantasyland expansion originally announced that would have been different and involved moving Small World? Do I remember wrong, or am I correct?

What are the next areas that are likely to be used for Disneyland (Frontierland/ROA?) and DisneySea expansion? It seems the resort is fairly built out.

Yeah, original plans in 2015 was to move Small World next to where Beauty and the Beast is now, both replacing Autopia, with an Alice in Wonderland mini-land replacing Small World

Yes, most likely including backstage office space. There's also space behind Tomorrowland if they can relocate the parking lot that's there currently.

TDS is harder, there's very little space left there now that the main expansion pad was used for Fantasy Springs. There's a small pad left at Lost River Delta that can be used for something, but probably not anything very big. Also a parking lot next to Midway Mania that could potentially be relocated.

The Resort is nearly tapped out. Any further expansion will likely need to be off-site or involve more landfilling.

It’s a very convoluted process and yea, if WDW was engaging in the same behaviour, there would be venom and vitriol amongst these parts.

But it’s certainly not a horrendous experience for a hardened Disney goer. A vacation package is absolutely not a requirement. Premiere access (at Disney sea in particular) is though. Best just to think the park tickets are half the price and you’ll spend the other half on premiere access.

The key is of course early arrival. I did 7:30 for an inevitable 8:45 entry. 07:00 would probably be less anxiety provoking. It was very easy to get a standby for Rapunzel, +/- Frozen depending on how busy it was and the premiere access for both are also doable. A second premiere access can be purchase 1H post and Pan seems to have no trouble making that window.

I think the major problem is how there are 4 attractions participating in this scheme at once really just magnifies it all. DisneySea is also just very busy. Would not be surprised to see it overtake TDL.
