Tokyo Disney Sea New Fantasmic

Because everything up until the villain sequence is completely random...

In case you haven't noticed, the original show was also really random.

Besides, the Magic Brooms and their buckets provide a transition into the sea from the opening Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence, Mickey wonders what's going on and his eyes trip out and lead into the jungle. Stitch's arrival after Circle of Life is directly from one of those Lilo and Stitch trailers. Mickey appears in the calming transition that gradually leads into Friend Like Me and actually makes comments during the Princess act.

Compare to the original, in between the opening/Sorcerer's Apprentice and the villain sequence, where he only appears once, wondering what's going on when the storm ship comes in.

Growing up with the formats of Disneyland and WDW's versions of Fantasmic, it was very weird for me to watch Tokyo's version. Something about it didn't scream "Fantasmic!"

It may have been somewhat random, but at least the original could tie it all together. The new version tries to focus on like 4-5 films at a time in the first 2 sequences while the original focuses more on 1 film at a time. The Stitch scene in the new version is directly out of nowhere (the trailers do not count) and is just stitch dancing in the middle with the girl experiment from the show riding his red car around the lagoon... at least Peter Pan fits into the theme of classic Disney films and something actually interesting happens with live actors. They removed 3 princesses for Cinderella who is basically just dancing in the middle like Stitch before her. The villain sequence in the original is brought on by the witch discovering there are 3 more beautiful women in Mickey's Imagination (Belle, Ariel, and Snow White) this causes her to summon the villains of the past to destroy Mickey. In the new version she just poofs him into the mirror just to take over for no apparent reason other than she is a villain. And above all the music is the main problem its all over the place, in the opening and ending scenes it is trying to fit 3 very different themes together into one piece and it just doesn't work sorry. This new "amazing" version is not that great IMO.

Like it or not, but Lilo and Stitch kind of is considered a classic now and with how beloved he is by the Japanese, of course he's in the show.

Actually, Belle and Beast, Aurora and Phillip and Snow White and her Prince appear on the inflatable screens in that whole Princess medley sequence.

As for the Witch's arrival, we don't even have a translation of that scene, though it definitely looks like it's a "Mickey's messing with things he shouldn't" thing. (EDIT: Have a post from MiceChat translating that confirms that this is the case. Mickey asks the Mirror who's the greatest Sorcerer and gets himself in trouble with the villains)

I gotta say most of these "It's just random crap unlike the original" arguments are mostly driven by nostalgia.

I understand Stitch is a classic but the scene does not fit in the style of Fantasmic what so ever, they could've done something more with it like say recreate an actual scene from the movie? And sure they show the princesses but for like 2 seconds each and you can hardly see them. At least in the american versions you see them in person and for a good 3 minutes, they could've have had the princess on the floats dancing instead of random people in ballroom costumes.

What IS the style of Fantasmic!? I thought it was a celebration of the Disney classics through a slim, almost non-existant storyline with Mickey being the connecting thread? I really don't see how this show is any different in terms of storytelling quality when faced against its' American counterparts.

Really? You don't ok go watch the original show and then compare to the new one and you'll see some differences. In the original they actually have a classier way of presenting each movie and it actually flows from one scene to the next. The only scene that can be seen as somewhat random in the original is the pink elephant scene and even that is lead up to through the music.

Meh.... nothing terribly exciting from the video (and yes, I know things are always better in person). Quite frankly given some of the comments here I was expecting something mind blowing, either in story or technology, but what I saw was neither. Show is very slow in the beginning and never seems to find its groove. I don't get the big deal about the hat either... it's a giant video.... given the technology that has fit Cinderella Castle and DL's iaSW, this is nothing. And can someone explain to me the fascination with giant blow up globes? Universal uses the same show for their (occasional) night show and it simply isn't good. And finally, what's up with giving the end music lyrics? Is sounds so cheesy. The only major differences is the amount of pyro used and the water effects (which are more muted here at WDW).

So no, it looks like a good show to see, but no where near as good as most of you have tried to make it out. Let's be honest... it has the exotic factor being in Tokyo... put that same show here and everyone would be complaining about it.

They reimagined it with better technology and newer franchises. The show looks better than what 20k people see a week in Florida; it would be nice to see dhs's show to be upgraded to this but I would prefer that they invent a new one.

Can you explain what this upgraded technology is? Because aside from the dragon (which obviously will eventually need upgrading at WDW), it's the same projector/video/screen/water/fire/pyro technology. Nothing new.

Pretty much everything I would have said. Anything that is built in Tokyo is better because it is built there

This Fantasmic isn't that great. Not sure why people think it is better than DL because I think DL still reigns supreme. The story was meh, I was expecting more characters, and all it basically is a technology showcase, like WOC. But even then, I still think WOC wins. I will place TDS F! a point ahead of WDW.

It still boggles my mind that they got rid of BraviSeamo. It was such a great show. I understand that most Japanese people didn't like it because it lacked Disney characters (apart from Mickey in the intro) and American audiences likely wouldn't have "gotten" it, but it was such a beautiful story with amazing music and was by far one of the most unique shows made by Disney that I've ever seen. I was particularly impressed by how Mt. Prometheus was included in the show, even more creating the idea that the park itself was the theater, and not just a specific area within the park.

My family like DHS the best. We've seen both and I love parts of both. However, DL is a pain to watch with too many stupid people trying to be in front of you. DHS has a nice stadium to watch it in and also has more recent films involved. I think that's why people tend to like DHS better. Both DL and DHS could be updated with new segments. Its my dream to see Peter Pan come to DHS in some way and a Tangled segment would be neat.

I don't think there's many people in this thread that prefer the Florida version to the Disneyland version. There's far too much filler in Florida and even with the crowds plaguing the riverfront at Disneyland for the show, it's got a lot more atmosphere that an area you saw in the day just transforms itself at night for the show.

Well there is the hat, that has much more complex technology than anything else used in one of disney's shows. Then there is the mirror that looks to use a better water curtain tech than what we have seen in the past.

The mirror can be fully seen from only one side of the harbor though...

Otherwise it is blocked by the hat...

Tianaveen and Ariel and Eric are in there too. No Jasmine or Rapunzel, as far as I could see. But yeah, the main princess is now Cinderella, but the segment features more princesses than the American Fantasmics.

Okay, can you explain to me how the hat is technologically any better than the Earth barge in RoE (obviously besides it being on a larger scale)?
