To launder or not to launder...

We will be in WDW in August. We drive in on a Sunday, and leave Monday of the next week. My question is this. Should I pack enough clothes for everyone to have and 10 day supply of clothing (adding in driving days) PLUS extras in case we change due to getting wet, our 4 year old having an accident, etc. Or should we just pack 8 days worth of clothes and do laundry on one of our resort days? Part of me doesn't want to waste time doing laundry on our first disney vacation, however the other part says it would be nice to get a break from the chaos, and a nice little break from husband and kids...lol. I know ultimately I need to do what works for us, just looking for a little advice. Thanks in advance!

I know it is work to do laundry on vacation but I always find time to do it. Like you said it’s a nice little break from everyone. Plus I feel much better going home with clothes I can unpack and put away rather than having to launder first. If it is going to interfere with your vacation don’t do it but I never find that to be the case in my situation. I like a little downtime to decompress and clear my head. The machines do most of the work anyway.

We always do laundry twice. Once mid trip and once at the end. It is easier if you are staying in a villa with your own washer dryer but I still do it at the laundry rooms at Coronado. No way I am facing a laundry pile when I get home! As @Nemo14 and @LAKid53 said. We walk around the resort at night and pop in to switch to dryer, take em back and fold them before bed. *I am a laundry freak anyway at home though, I never let more than a load pile up. It drives me crazy. Lol

Another vote here for doing some laundry. The last couple of times we’ve visited the World, we’ve done so as a family of five adults who tend to get through two outfits a day each (thanks to the extreme heat and humidity which can leave clothes wringing wet, we tend to shower and change twice a day ie once in the morning and once again before going out for dinner) and that generates a LOT of laundry - but doing it at Disney somehow never seems as bad as doing it at home. Admittedly, having a laundry room in our villa at OKW helps; we just do a load whenever someone in the group has a bit of time to spare.

Just me.... All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

On my worst day, I will NOT take my dear wife on vacation - then make her either COOK or do laundry :(.
Now, we are older.... no children to take care of anymore.... but dammit, my dear WIFE gets a vacation too!

Options? Let the front desk know that there is laundry to be done. WDW WILL pick it up, and do a GREAT job with this, as dear wife gets to have a vacation :). Spend that extra time smiling at each other, and holding hands :).

So - personal opinion? "NOT TO LAUNDER" :).

I feel like there's another option here that you aren't considering...

If we are staying about a week or a bit more, I'll do laundry. We also drive and bring a laundry basket for extra shoes, and other smaller items. The laundry basket becomes our dirty cloths basket, then if I do laundry I've got a basket. We take an afternoon break most days, so when we come back to rest, I'll grab the dirty cloths, and head to the laundry room. I'll hit the pool bar while the cloths are in the machines. This way my wife gets her nap, I get a couple of beers, and the cloths get clean.

As most of my trips are to participate in runDisney races - and I'm NOT packing stinky, sweat crusted running clothes - I do at least one load during my week long visit. I stay in a one bedroom villa, so that washer/dryer is very handy. Once my races are done, in the machine goes all my running apparel. It washes while I take a much deserved nap, as I've gotten up in the early AM 3 days in a row.

We usually bring 5 sets of clothes for a week's stay and do laundry one day.

I go often, but rarely for an entire week at a time. When I do, that's usually how I play it. It's probably because I'm in one mindset when I'm packing and another when I arrive. I look at the clothes I brought, let out an audible "pfft.", then usually pick my favorite few shirts and shorts and hit the laundry once, so I can wear them again (leaving the other half of the stuff I brought unworn).

Count me as another vote for a quick load or two of laundry. I will typically pack enough socks and underwear for the trip (including extras) and maybe even enough tshirts but do not own enough shorts for a trip that long. In that heat and humidity shorts might last a day and a half before they are too funky to wear any more without washing.

lol, I have to admit, I do the "lazy" man's laundry when on vacation. everything goes in the machine, no sorting nothing.
anyhoo, I've had villas the last 10 years and the first two trips where we stayed at Ft Wilderness, we did laundry during pool time. I'm on the side of everyone else, I simply didn't want to have to wash a mound of laundry when I got back.

Besides, it takes me days before I unpack. ;)

This is a vote to do laundry. We're 2 seniors and as other posters said, you can throw a load in while you're at the pool. We usually get up a little earlier and get the wash going while we're having breakfast. Then off to the fun! If you're flying some other airline besides SW, it also means less luggage and those dreaded bags fees.
