Hi everyone,

The DW and I are going to fly to WDW this fall (we always drove before). The only drawback to this is that we would like to stop at a store to buy snacks, food and alcohol for our room for the week but the only option we can think of is by taking a taxi after we get to our resort but this seems quite expensive. Does anyone have a better way of doing this? Are there close liquor and grocery stores (I assume that there are)?

Well, thanks in advance for your help.

We always take a bottle with us. Then when we run out :animwink: we buy some more at the resort shop-we are staying at Pop and 'Everything Pop' is quite reasonably priced, we were pleasantly surprised last year. Of course, we are comparing Disney prices to Rip Off British prices so it may not seem such good value to you guys!

My last trip-

In October we used the Garden Grocer. Easy to use, and products delivered
on time. In fact before both of our rooms were even ready!

There are a couple of limo services (at least) that you can use for transport from the airport to your hotel that will stop for groceries on the way. Florida Town Car and Tiffany Town Car are the two names that come to mind.

I wouldn't recommend looking for Publix, it's super far away. Not really worth the drive in my opinion (we have done this in years past and it's really just a pain imo). I have never tried to find it yet, but apparently there is store called Goodings located near downtown Disney. Once you reach your resort you could always ask the front desk and I'm sure they could give you good directions.

From what I have heard, Goodings is on the expensive side, being that it is the primary grocery like store near Disney property. Publix is on the more reasonable side but it's a far drive. I don't know where you are staying, but at the Deluxe resorts that have kitchens or even the kitchenette's you can find a downloadable form where you can have all your food delivered to your room. I'm pretty sure this isn't the garden grocer's place everyone else is talking about, because it comes from your resorts general store. You can just print out the form and pick what you want with your dates of travel and then fax it back to the resort. This is pretty expensive too though.

I know most people expect to pay inflated rates when they go to the world, so if the price doesn't scare you away, I would try Goodings or one of the food delivery places. If your on more of a budget you could try Publix, but only if you plan to rent a car. I want to say it's a good 20 minute drive one way to where it's at.

Anyhoo, hope you have fun on your trip!!!:animwink:

We used wegoshop.com when we went down in December and they were great. They will go to any store you need and pick up what you want including alcohol. I don't believe that Garden Grocer delivers alcohol.

Keep in mind that you'll have to be present to accept delivery on any alcohol that you try to have delivered.

If you're going shopping and you're driving from the airport, you should pass one on your way into the resort area.

If you use a car service like Quicksilver, they will do a stop for groceries/liquor on your way. Cost is not too high and delivery is from doorstep to doorstep saving considerable time as compared to Disney transport. Check out their website for prices (links on WDWMagic)

Wow thanks everybody! I supposse I should mention that I won't be renting a car as we like to rely on Disney transportation and forget the outside world. Taking a taxi to a store seems expensive but it looks like the only option unless renting a car for a day is cheaper, which it may be. I am going to look in to a delivery service perhaps.

I wouldn't give up the complimentary Magical Express transportation to go to a grocery store. How much do you need to buy? If it's just snacks, you can visit any grocery store in a deluxe resort. For instance, the Contemporary, BC, BW, WL, all have terrific shops where you can buy just about any snack you want in larger sizes. The ones I have seen also sell beer, wine, and liquor.

You could also purchase a terrific wine in Italy at Epcot and they'll hold it for you at the front of the park until you go home for the night.

If you really want to purchase something as soon as you arrive, just head to the other side of the airport (it's easy enough) and buy what you need. There's no rule that you have to hop on the first ME bus that shows up after your flight arrives.

Hope this helps. Have a great trip.

If it's just the basic snacks and stuff....think about shipping it UPS. This year I shipped soda, water, breakfast items, chips and even some non-refrigerated milkboxes (found in ShopRite by the juicebox aisle). I shipped it ground (5-7 day delivery fron NJ) and it was there waiting when I got there. It was well worth the price to deliver it UPS.

I know that there is a car service (I think it's called quick silver or something like that) and it will pick you up at the airport and it will also let you stop for groceries at no extra charge. The grocery stop is either 15 min. or 30min. I'm not sure which.

Something to consider, particularly if you know you're not going to go over your airline's checked bag allowance, is to check through a care package. As long as you're intending to send through non-perishables (including a limited amount of alcohol), this would work just fine on up to 50lbs on most airlines.

Just affix one of the Disney's Magical Express bag tags right on the package, and you're good to go. It'll be shipped right through to your room.
