Tipping at the resorts

I didn't want to get the "tiping and dining plan" thread anymore off topic, so I thought I would ask my question here. I understand that $1-$3 a night is customary to tip the mousekeeping staff. Does that sound about right? And do you just leave it on the dresser for the maid, or do they provide envelopes to put it in, or what?

I usually leave $2 a day (I'm usually solo, and not a slob) in an envelope marked Mousekeeping on the sink. Only once have I returned to my room and the filled envelope still be there.

Also, on the sub-topic of this discussion, I've had mousekeeing knock on my door as early as 8:20-8:30am (just as I'm getting ready to leave for the day anyway). Also I've been back to my room as late as 2:30-3:00pm, and it was still not visited by mousekeeping.

So we're dvc members & we are going to pay to get a quick clean up every day. Now my husband thinks that since we are paying to have the room cleaned that we do not have to tip mousekeeping. But I think that even though we are paying like 10 bucks a day, the mousekeeper is probably not seeing any of that & we should tip. Any thoughts on this?

I leave $5 each day. I usually write a little note of thanks so mousekeeping will know it's for them.

I am very paranoid about mousekeeping coming while I'm sleeping or getting ready. I always put my "do not disturb" sign on my door when I go to bed.

It depends on how the mousekeeping is. Everytime we have stayed at the Yatch Club it has been horrible. Since we are DVC members and mainly stay at the boardwalk we do the quick clean everyday for a nominal fee and since they are great we leave 2 dollars a day.
