Well... as a local it took something big to actually draw me to the park. A new rig wouldn't do it for me, and most Disney going locals are probably going to need a bigger draw. I just don't see how the benefits outway the costs, and with how thin the resort as a whole seems to be strung, I would rather see the money towards something that WILL draw locals (like a new attraction) rather then something that most of the locals won't care all that much about.disnyfan89 said:How much did it cost to build the rig in Disneyland? I would imagine that if we could build one for as much money as Disneyland's it would be well worth the money. And to say it would not draw attention I think is a lie. One of the things I was most excited about seeing when I went to Disneyland was the new rig for tink. There are more than enough locals that they can market this to in Florida. While a good percentage of WDW is tourist we still have a large local audience that visits the Magic Kingdom several times a year!
WDW, Tink slides down a rope.KevinPage said:I need a cliff notes, non techincal answer to what the heck everyone is taliing about.
How does it differ from what WDW has now :veryconfu
And I was waiting for BooWishes to squash this so I didn't really have to wrap my brain around it.
Right! As I stated in my first post, the only way disney could do this is if they build a Mountain. Not going to happen any time soon! The argument has just become "Would it be worth the money to build the rig?" I still say yes!Lee said:Here's the thing...you have to first understand Tink's path at DL. For years she has flown from the top of Matterhorn to a wooded area on the west side of Fantasyland, flying right over/behind the castle.
Last year they replaced the single cable, with a powered system very much like the one used to fly cameras over the field at football games, allowing Tink to fly back and forth, up and down, quite similar to her flight at the opening of Wonderful World of Disney.
At MK, Tink flies from the top of the castle to a landing pad above the east side of Main St. In order for the new style rigging to work, they would have to construct a very large tower, visible from most of the park. That's if they kept her coming out of the castle. To make her fly around above the castle would require towers of at least 125 feet, or so. (Keep in mind, Sleeping Beauty's Castle is 100 ft shorter than Cinderella's.) Anyone imagine them erecting two 125ft towers, one near the Teacups area and the other over near Liberty Square, visible from the whole park, just for Tink to fly around?
Nah...me neither.
A mountain? Everest spent over 35 millions dollars. A fake mountain in the middle of the Magic Kingdom would cost nearly 10 million alone, for prep, build and aestethics. Even a single tower poking out of Frontierland would cost abot 2 million (considering it would be 125 ft tall, and would have to be themed somehow). I would imagine this fly system runs about a quarter of a million. Plus training of the technical team for operation and repair of it (those things have a tendancy to get finicky), plus the development of a new fireworks show to accomidate the 15 seconds of "Wow, look at Tink go!"disnyfan89 said:Right! hokielutz said:This is the first time that I heard about the fly rigging in DL. Apart from the logistics of building some HUGE towers or structures to put the guide lines on, I think Cinderella's castle would pose the biggest obstacle. The wires would have to be set either in front or behind the castle. She couldn't fly above or near the castle because it is 180ft tall and would get in the way of the wires.
Jerm said:It has about 5 or 6 cables plus the HUGE rig that rides up and down "helping" Tink fly.
Have you seen it in person? It really isn't that bad and much better than Tink flying for 2 sec down a line and then she's gone. She really became a member of the school. Much better then what we have now.Jerm said:I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't like that answer. If it does make it over to that side of the earth it will really kill some of the magic. The nice thing about Tinks rig here is you can't really see it that well. It flying out of the castle right over the TL bridge will be in view of everyone. It has about 5 or 6 cables plus the HUGE rig that rides up and down "helping" Tink fly. I am sure that it would be great thing for the next fireworks show .....oh did I say that:lookaroun but that is a step slide.

Legacy said:No it wouldn't, because it's for a different audience. Disneyland caters more towards the California locals, who go to Disney quite often in comparison to the many once in a lifetime tourist that travel to WDW. About 60-70% of WDW Guests will probably never visit the recent more than one or two more times. Eighty percent of Disneyland's guest go every other weekend.
Why reinvite the wheel?
Jheyman said:Can someone describe how the DL rig is set and what the overall effect is? Sorry, east coaster here who has never made it out to DL. Thanks!
I'll even add something to that... It's not going to happen... :brick::lol:Buried20KLeague said:If Boo and Lee said it's not going to happen, we don't even need to discuss it further.
But It's Tradition.clarkstallings said:I personally think that the tink flying effect might be the cheapest effect at WDW. I hate the visible rigging. The bad show just isn't worth the effect. I would prefer it if they'd just cut the whole thing.
