Tinkerbell's flight...

I've been to WDW twice in two years and both times was surprised to see someone dressed as Tinkerbell gliding down a (pretty visible) cable. This time my brother came with us and he remembers that when we last went (several years ago), Tink was animated and somehow amazingly "projected". Are we misremembering?? I hate Tink's wings with green lights on them and the fact that she's obviously too big to be a pixie.

I watched Wishes last week, it was Thursday night and all I waited there to see was Tink, and she never flew!!! Maybe because of the wind that night. It got really breezy as it got later.

Yes
But to answer the Op's questions...

No - Tinkerbell was never a projection.

She's always been a "Pixie" and flown from the Castle...

Just to clarify, that actually is Tinkerbell, and not on a cable, and not wearing lights. I think she may appear "like" a projection or video in SpectroMagic.

Oh... riiiight. I forgot that Cinderella has a clothes line hanging from her castle to do the wash... and Tinker Bell can't fly when it's windy due to the risk of being blown into the giant bug zapper that's hung in the tree of life. :lookaroun

EIDT, minus smart alec mode -- she is, indeed, a video inside the spectromagic floats.

I definitely remember her being projected high above the castle many years ago. Maybe during or before Fantasy in the Sky, or the show before it....

That's funny, I go almost every weekend, and catch Wishes, and Tinkerbelle flies! I actually can't think of a time I haven't seen her fly!

I haven't seen Tinkerbell fly in years.

Durring Wishes at the MVMCP, didn't Rudolph used to fly down instead of Tink? I specifically remember being surprized by seeing Rudolph instead of Tink when I was little.
