I have a pellet rifle, I can take the balloon out no problem

And yes there are male tinkerbelles according to Mr. Roper.

Tinkerbell flies during the early portion of Wishes...Here's a pov shot from the Castle to the landing area from Google..

That's not a wire! That's the line Peter Pan drew for Tinkerbell so that she can find her way back to Neverland! :p

... and the "landing spot" in that photo is off. I don't think Tink flies over the Magic Kingdom to eat at Tomorrowland Terrace. ;) The actual spot can be seen in the photo a little bit above on the roof of the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin building.

It's pretty often a male performer. Performers have to have the physical strength to pull themselves down the wire should the rig ever get stuck (no offense ladies, just relaying the job requirements and the resulting casting choices).

Huh, I've always wondered how close Tink would look from the Terrace given she ("she") flies right over it. Sounds like it's pretty close!

Just for history buffs:

DL's first Tink was Tiny Kline. She started flying at the age of 70 and retired when she was 74.

The cable does not make a taught beeline for the landing spot. It looks like it's heading for the Terrace because of the droop in the cable. (Just like every rope and cable droop) It eventually curves and heads for the landing spot at the back of the Buzz building after going over top of the Terrace building.

During the day the cable is slack, they don't tension it until the evening right before Tink's flight.

Here's a good chuckle for all of you.
I don't know exactly what I thought (having never been to WDW) but I honestly had no idea that Tinkerbell's Flight involved an actual person! None of my friends have ever even mentioned the flight before and it's not even something I had thought to do a search on.

I think I was imagining some type of prop with lights or something.:banghead:

Now I'm even more amazed! :joyfull: Super excited to try to experience this now. You know, as long as a balloon doesn't get stuck on the wire....

My husband and I had a discussion about this while we were there. I had no idea that Tink was a person either... lol... and DH said something about it when we saw Wishes from in front of the Crystal Palace. I told him I didn't think so, but he insisted that Tink had to be human. When we came back the next night, we just happened to walk behind the Tomorrowland Terrace when Tink flew, and DH got a much better view of her, and when he saw Tink waving, he made a point to tell me he was right lol. That's also when he said something about Tink looking very manly, so then we got to have that discussion as well.

ETA: see two posts down for further description of exactly where we were. It was later at night, after a long day of park hopping, and it was dark... maybe saying I was "behind" the restaurant isn't exactly accurate.
