Timezone changes

We are taking out one year old twins in May to celebrate their birthday (and to celebrate that we survived the first year of twins:ROFLOL:)

They are on a pretty good nap/sleep schedule which I want to try to adhere to as much as we can while we are on vacation. I know we may have to vary it some (I think morning naps might suffer) but I hope to go back to the room for afternoon naps.

We live in the central timezone so we will only have an hour change. Do you tend to keep them on the same schedule and adjust to the time change? For example - they go to bed at 7 here - would you change their bed time to 8 there? Just curious how people have handled the time change.

Daylight savings time just about killed us a few weeks ago so I want to try to stay as consistent as we can.

Thanks
Kelly

I haven't been in the situation, but after reading the quoted portion, I think you've already got your answer. As you said, it's only an hour, so it's not like it will disrupt mom and dad's schedule. And given how difficult DST was -- well, just remember, if you do switch to FL time you're going to end up going through the same thing twice.

If it were me, I wouldn't even change my watch. I'd just pretend I was in my home timezone.

Well, I would imagine like most little ones at that age, they'll go to sleep by themselves anyway at their 'normal' time; especially if they're busy at the parks. Of course, in case they don't, its definitely a good idea to head back to the hotel room for an afternoon nap.

We also live in the central time zone and our girls never had a problem with that; but all kids are different.

Congrats on surviving that first year. I have 4-year old twins and an 8 year old so I totally get it.

We're on the east coast but my SIL is from Seattle. They stay on the same schedule when they go to WDW. Seems to work better except that EMH mornings are out.

For us, it always depended on how long we were staying. For a week or longer, we just went ahead and moved over to the Eastern time zone.

We have an hour and 1/2 change (we live in our own time zone here in NL) and my kids have always switched to "Florida" time within a couple of days. The first couple of days they're up earlier b/c of the time change (which is not a bad thing b/c we're out the door sooner in the mornings) but after that they seem to switch over to the new time zone!

My baby's nap schedule was all messed up on our first trip when she was 14 mths old. At home she was usually only going for one nap in the afternoon but while on vacation she was falling asleep earlier in the day (probably b/c of longer days, being on the go more, and the heat). It was impossible to get her down for an afternoon nap and then come supper time she was crashing again. We gave up after the second day of this and let her sleep whenever she wanted. She was content and we had a great vacation!
