Time to get in shape for Disney

I got a real wakeup call this past weekend. With the “nice weather” finally here in New England I tried on a pair of shorts and they didn’t fit! It was like I got hit with a board, too much good living not enough exercise. With a trip coming up in about 14 weeks I have to “get cracking.” I’m on the first day of my get in shape for Disney program, I packed a sensible lunch, I’m dinking lots of water, I’m going walking at lunch and I’m going to weight watchers later in the week as they meet in my DW’s church. I’m also very cranky as I didn’t get my donuts this morning and I have to visit the Men’s room every 10 minutes, but I digress. Anyone else ever have to get in shape for Disney, and if so how? I don’t mean start a walking routine to get their legs in shape for walking the parks. I mean a “lets drop some weight to fit into my summer clothes program?

I know the feeling. I remember that when I was a teen, I was embarrassed about taking off my shirt because I was skinny. Funny how times change, huh?

Getting rid of soda is a huge help, and running every day. We have a YMCA membership and a treadmill at home, so I have no excuse to not run. I plan on doing 4-5 miles per day, and only drinking water with the occasional tea.

yes, I did for our trip in dec. 09. I dropped 55lbs i believe. Well about 3 yrs ago my grandfather passed from cancer and I stopped working out and all that. It was a very depressing time. So I am once again losing the weight I put back on for our sept trip. Im down 30 already. Im watching what I eat and doing atleast 1hr cardio, then I do abs, and then I do weights. Weights normally consist of squats and ect on m,w,and friday, t and th I do weights with arms. Sat and Sunday I do cardio or I go spend the day with the kids at the park or zoo and get the cardio in that way. =) I normally drink only water.

Hi there! First - Good Luck!!!! I was just thinking of starting a work out to Disney trip! thread!!! I'm training for Disney - a Disney 1/2 marathon that is! :) But I too have to drop weight too. In the past, I have done every diet known to man. I have tried every pill, every fad, every everything. But honestly, the only, I mean ONLY thing that works is a low carb diet with exercise and you need a program to watch portion control like livestrong my plate or weight watchers. I started back this past week - I made sensible wise choices, loads of fruits and veggies, and loads of water. Have a work out plan that works for my lifestlye and this week when I weighed myself - I lost 5 1/2 lbs the first week! And I still had movie popcorn (small no butter) and ordered pizza (with salad and water and loads of veggies on it). I use weight watchers b/c its easy for me. But I have friends that do better with myplate b/c they like counting calories rather then points. Some tips - drink a glass of water before every meal, if you want a snack in the evening, chobani makes little yogurt cups of raspberry chocolate chip that are yummy, Kind bars - the low sugar ones - dark chocolate and sea salt - are a great thing to have in the middle of the day when you need that afternoon pick me up. And we invested in a Vitamix for whole food blending and start the day with a high protein green or berry smoothie every day. Good luck!!!!

I've said this before, but here goes...

Cut all trans and sat fat - eat precious little of the others.

Eat almost no carbs. Get your carbs from your fruits and veggies. No additional bread, potatoes or pasta.

Low sugar...get that from your fruits and veggies, too.

Eat a very low sodium diet.

No red meat. At all.

Drink water. Only water.

That's all you need to do. I promise that you will not overeat. You won't want to. There will not be much left that you want to eat.

I try and stay fit by taking cardio weight training, barre, yoga and spinning classes and I do normal gym visits. But my 1st trimester was rough and I was only going 1x or 2x a week. I am now 20 weeks and back to going 4 to 5x a week trying to stay toned, keep my stamina up and pregnancy lbs down. About two years ago DH and I decided to get healthy and joined a family gym with indoor outdoor water parks, kids centers and family fitness programs. Worth every penny, we both feel great, look better and our kids are seeing a healthy lifestyle.
We also eat right and very clean, Infact I bring organic Breakfest items to WDW so we an have one good clean meal a day.
Good luck:) for us it is an ongoing process and I can tell you I am in fact getting addicted to exercise, NEVER though that would happen...

Kind of a big change, but try going vegetarian (or even vegan) and cutting out meat, while getting a good dose of excersise. Pick up some quality protein powder and drink one or two protein shakes a day. There are some great documentaries on Netflix about this kind of eating, and as someone that was fat as a kid, and then fit as an adult, I even saw the changes after switching.

Best of luck to your health!

We have just a little over 3 weeks for me to drop some lbs. I was walking every night but then it rained for a few nights and I just decided blah. I don't eat a lot, never have. But i do not exercise and that is my problem. I've just recently started drinking plain water. I was drinking mostly crystal lite. There is also a web site I'm interested in trying. It's dailyburn.com and when I think I'm going to do it I decide a nap would be so much nicer:eek:. So, starting tomorrow I'm going to set up my laptop to daily burn and start my exercise regimen! I don't like going to gyms because I feel like the skinny people are laughing at me. Yes, I know it's not true (maybe) but it's how I feel anyhow. I just wish I had an exercise buddy. My daughter and husband are both skinny. I tried to do a sit up the other day and couldn't even get up. I laughed but it was hollow. It's time for a change!! Let's do it!!

Raven66, I found that at home workouts never happened, there was always laundry/dishes/kids/bills etc. DH and I didn't want a gym full of bodybuilders and fake either. We wanted to go and sweat and leave with out judgement. We found a family center that works, I see elderly people, many Moms like me, Dads with beer bellies and of course the super fit. Find one you fit in with, DH calls our gym "Averge Joe's" from the movie Dodge Ball. If you are on FB try asking if anyone else likes a gym or wants to work out with you. I got this tip from my cousin who has kept off 35lbs for about 8 year, put an attainable goal, say 20mins of cardio, on your mirror/refrigerator/cabinets on post it's. Once you have done it move one too another one, mine (before baby) was to not eat sugar for 12hours, then 24etc. Hers were random like drink 3bottles of water, no soda, no Doritos etc. Today mine is eat 5 servings of fruit and yesterday was 45 mins on the bike. Try baby steps and do what you like, won't see me doing step classes or running ona treadmill, HATE thoose things! I started with yoga and then moved to pliates and now do a weight lifting (light weight) cardio class, called lift, sweat and tone. Good luck, I hope you find what works for you:) I never though I could truthfully say, "I go to the gym 4 to 5 days a week" .

Start moving and eat healthy. That is the only weight loss program that works for pretty much everyone. You may think you don't have time, but little things like taking the stairs, parking at the far end of the lot, etc adds up.

Going to a gym can help. Most will give you a trial period so you can see what type of people are members. And believe it or not, there are plenty of people at the gym trying to get in shape. If one doesn't work, try another. For instance Planet Fitness has "lunk alerts", an alarm they will set off if someone drops a dumbbell like weight lifters like to do. And they have pizza and bagel days once a month.

It sounds like you have a decent grip on this you can do to start, but you need to stick with it. That's the biggest thing. Keep those shorts on the wall until you can wear them again.

I call it "Disney Conditioning." I put myself on an 8-week program starting April 1st, so I'm just about a week and a half shy of finishing it. My trip isn't until September, so this was partially for "swim suit" season. But, I plan to continue running and working out 4-5 times a week pretty intensely so that I can stay in shape for Disney. In the summer it is so much easier because I get home and it's light out for 4-5 more hours, so a run isn't so tough to fit in.

Echoing lots of water and PORTION CONTROL. It's shocking how out of whack "normal" proportions have become in the US!

I agree, I find that I don't finish a meal anywhere. We have a Japanese place near us and I can make 3 meals out of one meal there.

I usually start getting ready for the summer around this time of year. We are going to the beach in early July and Disney in late July, so I will be hitting the gym a little more often and eating healthier to prepare for the beach and poolside.

As I've gotten older its harder to git rid of a few pounds. For me walking up to an hour several days a week, and cutting back on how much I eat works for me. I've learned that not eating everything on my plate is better for me. That last two bites of a sandwich, leave them, those french fry's eat a few leave most. Fruit and veggies those I eat the whole thing. The main thing is find what works for you, and stick with it. Even if you seem to plateau keep working, the results will soon arrive.
