I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton. It was announced his next two films he will be doing will be with Disney. Alice in Wonderland, which will have live action and I believe motion capture animation, and a stop-motion version of his short film he made while working for Disney Frankenweenie (the short film of this is available on the Nightmare Before Christmas DVD).

I can't wait for these films and I am equally excited to see Sweeney Todd next week.

Any other Burton fans on here?

I can not WAIT for Sweeney Todd.

I'm salivating here :D

I hope that Alice is dark...(most likely, if it's Tim...it'll be darker than everybody hopes LOL ) I just hope it's not the Disney version...I want the one like McGee's Alice ;) )

I want to see Sweeney. I wish I could.

But I am a total wimp when it comes to bloody, scary type movies. I am guessing I won't be able to handle this one.

Burton's Alice is going to be like the book. Here is a link to a post on darkhorizons.com: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/071211c.php

I can't wait to see this. I wonder who he will cast?

I love when Johnny Depp and Burton team up. They just fit perfectly, much like Burton and Danny Elfman do as well.

This other link, also to darkhorizons.com, is about the Frankenweenie he will make. It has other films in there, the Burton one is the third paragraph: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/071210i.php

I have a ton of book on Burton's films and biographies on him. One of the best is Burton on Burton by Mark Salisbury. It gets updated every few years after a bunch of new movies comes out, and the updates will cover those films released. This book is basically Burton telling about his career from his beginnins as an animator at Disney up to his latest work. It's a great read and a book I always buy whenever the newest edition comes out (I have three copies so far).

Oh good! The book is actually very very dark and surreal. Oh my goodness I am psyched! I am sooo curious as to who they will cast as well!

Burton/ Depp/ Elfman = Dream Team.

Frankenweenie was like one of his first short films wasn't it? Along with Vincent?

Oh I do love him. He is truly a visionary and artist. Though I will admit, not sure if you are a Kevin Smith fan, I am, and when he talks about him... it is pretty hilarious. hehe.

Oh and can't wait for Sweeney! Best lyric so far from the song on the trailer.... "I want you bleeders" YESS!

Frankenweenie and Vincent were some of the first films Burton did for Disney. I love Vincent, that short is just amazing. The Burton on Burton book really goes into his time at Disney and talks about these films a lot.

I am a Kevin Smith fan, yes. Here in NJ he has a comic store in his home town of Red Bank and I go to it a lot, every few months. It has a lot of great props from his movies there, and on the street where the store is, are some locations where he filmed scenes from his films. Not too far away from there is the Quick Stop he filmed Clerks in, I've been there as well. I think every NJ Smith fan has been there at one point or another.

His rants about Burton are pretty interesting and funny. Too bad the Superman film never came about, I was curious to see what they would have made of it.

Peaches, just when I think you can't get any cooler, you tell me something else you have an interest in, which I share, and you get even cooler than before!

What is your favorite Burton film?

Yes, I remember watching Vincent back in art school and really loved it.
Ah, an NJ guy... well yes, you must be a Smith fan then! Goes without saying. hehe I have loads fo family up in NY and NJ, and gotta get to that store and the Quick Stop. Just something that has to be done in my life span. Yeah I really just love how candid he speaks to groups. He is just my kind of guy all around. And yes, very upsetting about Superman... I am sure his vision would have been amazing. Hopefully he will get his shot eventually. I mean if Favreau can do Iron Man... you never know!

Why thank you. I prize myself of being the coolest nerd I can be. hehe

Hmmm tough question... I think I have to go with a classic... Edward Scissorhands... though I LOVE Batman, Beetlejuice, Big Fish & Sleepy Hollow... and of course Nightmare and Corpse Bride... man that's a tough one! hehe Yours?

Favorite Burton movies: Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Beetlejuice. I love them all really, will see anything he does and buy all his work on DVD.

I loved his cameo in Singles, great scene.

Smith's DVD's where he is talking to the colleges is great, lots of funny stuff in there. His store is a great comic store, you can find lots of great books there.

I'm glad to see Burton working with Disney again. The man is truly talented and his visuals just amaze me. There's so many things to love about his films.

Yes, can't forget Ed Wood! So strangely wonderful.
Wow, I almost forgot about the cameo in Singles...
"Debbie, he's only like the next Martin Scor-sees"
:ROFLOL:
Love that movie. Such a time piece to the early 90's grunge.
Great cast as well. Matt Dillon is Metal! haha

Yeah I watched a load of Smith on youtube not long ago and was cracking up! He is just great, says it like it is and I admire that so much!

Very glad to see the Burton/ Disney thing again as well. Meand huge marketing for him and good merch as well YESS!!

I was a little disappointed that the studio turned down Burton's vision of Superman. I wanted to see what would've happened with a dark Superman.

BTW...nobody has mentioned Willy Wonka

Yeah a Burton Superman would be SUCH a different world altogether I assume

Oh and WW.... Hmm... I have conflicted issues with that one for lots of reasons. I think it is mostly because I respect the original faaaar too much.

Gene Wilder does make a wonderful Wonka. I think it's great to have two versions of the film. Wilder's film has a musical feel to it, and while Burton's has songs, it's more like a Burton musical I guess. That make sense? I think each film captures great parts and tells the story in their own unique way.

My least favorite Burton film would be Planet of the Apes, and by least favorite I would say the film of his that would be at the bottom of my list of his films in order I like them. It's a good film, just not my favorite. I own it, I like it, but not as much as I love his other work.

I love Ed Wood. Martin Landau was just amazing as Bela Logusi.

Just saw another commercial for Sweeney Todd. Oh man, I am getting so excited for this film.

Very true. I did enjoy Burton's WW but I just had to view it from an entertainment point of view as a purely different movie.
Meaning that both WW characters were totally different and even the story itself... completely switched up. But still, the character that were meant to be likeable... were. Johnny was brilliant as crazy... as he is at everything.
The musical part I get...though Deep Roy to this day, STILL freaks me out in a way I can't really explain. :lookaroun
Though he is ambitious to take on doing ALL of that in WW.
And the film was... visually beautiful as well.

I also agree on Planet of the Apes... at the bottom, not bad... but not the best. And Ed Wood... brilliant... Yet again.. Johnny... superb at crazy.
Vampira & Tor were the spitting images! I adore old horror movies so I really dug this flick. And I actually wept at the last scene when Landeau did Bela... he was just amazing.

Another of my very favorite scenes from that...
Bill Murray... the baptism scene....

"Do you reject _____ and all his evils?"

"Sure"

haha! Classic Murray delivery!

(Sorry, had to bleep that...
I don't want the religious police after me on here...
sheesh. hehe)

I know, everytime I see a Sweeney trailer I get all giddy!
My hubs isn;t really looking forward to it though... not like I am. And he isnt big on musicals too. So I think I am going to find someone equally as excited to see it. Which isnt too many of my friends... eh, maybe one, just cause she like Johnny too. Sometimes I feel a bit ousted for liking the darker things... but oh well... I honestly don't care.

I'm gonna stir up some controversy here. A few Tim Burton movies have been very good (Batman 1989, Beetlejuice, and maybe Nightmare Before Christmas), but overall I find Burton to be overrated as many of his films leave me disappointed and unfulfilled.

Here's a list of some of the stinkers...

Batman Returns (horrible on so many levels).
Mars Attacks (alot of people like this movie but I still can't understand why)
Sleepy Hollow
Planet of the Apes (by far the worst of his movies)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (doesn't even come close to the original. re-making this movie was a waste of his time).

And then there are a few of his films that I kind of like, but would probably have to be on acid in order to fully enjoy them. Edward Scissorhands and ______ Wee's Big Adventure come to mind.

I'm not a complete hater though, as I do like some of his work. I can see how he would be an excellent choice to direct Alice In Wonderland, since the environment of that film fits his style perfectly.

Hey, to each his own man.
Alot of people see him as well-overrated... I just usually love how different it always is... like you can pretty much always tell a Burton film... mostly cause if you see Johnny & Helena cast though. hehe

Yeah, some weren't so great as you said, I really like Sleepy Hollow though.. but I like the strange dark dirty and gruesome. All and all when he stays in that genre I usually love it.
Like you said.. Alice... perfect for him.
Geez, I LOVE Edward. haha... But P.Wee.. I can see that one being of the most odd. But I also watched it as a kid and it was all great then. hehe

Exactly! You can tell a Burton film from any other film. So distinct. I love that. He has certain things that he usually puts in each film and just make them that much more beautiful. There are some films that are beautiful looking (some Spielberg ones for instance), but me personally, I can honestly say every Burton film is beautiful looking.

______-Wee's Big Adventure, great film. What started it all!

I love to watch his films and notice the actors he has used over and over again, and there certainly are many!

Sleepy Hollow is great, based off of one of my favorite stories (and wait till you see Ichabod in Fables, Peaches!) and the film just looks beautiful. The grays and foggy sets, the costumes, the cast, so great.

Did you see Nightmare in 3D?

Planet of the Apes was horrible. Just plain bad. The character design was incredible though.
I haven't seen Willy Wonka.

P-Wee's Big Adventure is GREAT! That's a classic!!! (Tell em' LARGE MARGE sent ya!)

Sleepy Hollow is the movie that comes to mind when I hear Tim Burton. I don't know why...but the grittiness and darkness of the film really wrap up the definition of Burton for me. Fantastic movie.

Edward Scissorhands...another incredible movie. It's one of those movies that you really need to watch more than once to get the full "feel" and compassion for Edward.

Nightmare...to be honest, I didn't like it when I watched it the first time. I thought it was really dumb. I watched it again...and it kinda grew on me and I was finding myself singing the songs. Then I watched it again and I couldn't wait to just start it from the beginning again!

Haven't seen The Corpse Bride.

Batman Begins obviously wasn't as good as the original Batman...but it was MUCH better than the 2 movies that were to follow. I loved how the Penguin and Catwoman looked.

Beetlejuice...Beetlejuice...BEETLEJUICE! The ghost with the most... LOVE IT!

Did Burton do From Hell? If so, that wasn't one of his best.

No-one has mentioned Big Fish yet. I love that film, in fact it's probably one of my fave Burton's.

Does anyone know the release date for Sweeney Todd in the UK?
I think Enchanted is out this week, perhaps if ST is out soon I can do a double cinema trip!

Yes, he does leave his signature of his style on every one of his films.
Ahh, no way Ichabod is in it!? YESSS!

I did see Nightmare in 3D... and believe now, that that is the way it should always be viewed. Disney digital 3D is AMAZING!

Oh and look what a friend of mine sent me this morning!!

ENJOY!
