Tiki Room?

We went to the Tiki Room for the first time last year. It is hokey, silly, fun and a classic. We will go back, not every trip, but we will go back. We do the same for CBJ. I understand that if one of the birds in Tiki poops on you you'll get a lifetime all ride fastpass.

I love the Tropical Serenade!

It is just so atmospheric, fun. It leaves me floating away into some tropical dream-like state, gently carried away by all the singing birds and flowers. From which it brutally wakes me with that sudden thunder. I was terrified of that when I was young, still am a bit.

I miss the fountain, but otherwise the Tiki room in it's curent incarnation is otherwise very much fine with me. Bless that fire that caused them to restore the attraction!

OMG- I was so afraid of the "storm" part when I was little. The singing Tikis also freaked me out!

I think you will get many mixed reviews here on the Tiki Room. I happen to like it very much, it just puts a smile on my face. You will hear a few corny jokes and the music will stay with you all day. :) I am glad they went back to the original version. Brings me right back to my childhood.
I feel the same way. I sing the song all day after I leave .

I'll say this... the show is MUCH more enjoyable when everything is working, which it is now since the refurb. Prior, even during the UNM phase, there were often times that none of the Tiki's mouths/eyes moved and the little guys up on the shelves that drum didn't drum etc. and it would pull my focus to what wasn't working rather than what was. Now that they've fixed it up and seem to have rekindled the whole "keeping up with the attractions" feeling as far as maintenance etc. it's wonderful again!

Having first seen the Tiki room presented by Walt Disney on 'Disneyland' way back in the '50's, we made sure that we visited the Tiki Room when we first visited DisneyWorld. The show was everything that we expected and even more - what with the thunder and lightning and the fountain at the conclusion of the show. UNM simply ruined the program and after giving it several trys we never returned until they somewhat restored the original version. We now make sure it is on our agenda to visit each trip to renew the old feelings. We find it to be 'enchanting' and nostalgic. Isn't this what DisneyWorld is all about? See something that began it all after the 'Mouse' built the place. Not much left at WDW that Walt brought to us.

As someone else said - if you are a Disney fan - look up the history of the attraction, and you will find appreciation in it. You can't go in and really expect to be blown away by a bunch of AA birds in a room in 2012... But when you look at it in terms of a piece of MK and Disney/Imagineering history, I think anyone could leave the show pretty impressed.

I'm going to have to go against the crowd on this one. It may be because of my age and how I grew up with Disney, but I dislike the restored version. I had grown up only remembering the Under New Management version of the attraction, and me and my family enjoyed it. Its fun, it has pop music, and it had Zazu and Iago who I loved both. I am 19 now and just returned from my 22nd trip, and I have to say I did not like the return to the original format. I much preferred the more upbeat and modern music presented in Under New Management. The music in the show now seems very dated and I noticed multiple people slowly walk out during the show.

For the time, I know that it was a great show, but it is now 2012 and we need to accept that some classics need to be changed.

I'm guessing my opinion mostly stems from growing up with Under New Management though.

I was so glad to here the restored it to its original form. I didn't mind Under New Management but the original is always the best.

But see, therein lies the problem. WDW's version isn't the "original" version. Or more appropriately, the current DL version.

There are two very key points the WDW version is missing, IMHO... First is the Enchanted Fountain. It gives a great focal point to the center of the room, and really gives you something to look at, along with helping to illustrate the "mood" of the room, at times.

The other big thing I miss at WDW's version is the sing-along section of "Let's all sing like the birdies sing". This is my 3 year old's favorite part of the show, and at Disneyland the entire room sings along (at Jose's request!)and it's a great moment. At WDW's, it's just... Missing. Yes, I get that the DL crowd is different than the WDW crowd, and I'm sure the thought was that with most WDW visitors not having a history and understanding of the show, it might be awkward. But I disagree.

I think everyone should see it once since its more 'classic Disney' like Haunted Mansion and Small World. I have memories of the first version from when I was little so this always has had a place in my heart. I didn't care for UNM but figured better that then shuttering it forever. I haven't seen the current version but since its similar to the original, and if there's very little to no wait, why not?

One Little Spark...
I''m glad to see it's no longer under "new management". They cut parts of the original show out for the current version, I believe, but it's still very entertaining.

A tradition of mine is to ride alladin, then see the tiki show, then get a dole whip to munch on as me and the kid walk to our next attraction.

If you are a fan of classic, goofy, 60s era Disney you will love the show. We are, and we do. I put it in the same orbit as the COP and the Bear Jamboree. If you don't appreciate the nostalgic feeling and music from that time you will be checking your watch for 14.5 minutes and wish you had it back. For us, it's a must do. We even enjoyed the New Management version...........mostly.
