'Tigger' arrested on molestation charges

Just a quick detour from this discussion, but i have to say something. I can not stand when I hear people talking about how people sue McDonald's because the coffee is too hot. My mother when I was a little girl went to hardee's for Coffee on her way to work. The girl at the drive thru didn't put the lid on all the way and when she passed it into the car it slipped through her hand and fell right into my mothers lap. My mom who isn't a small woman was forced to sit down in the coffee so that she could pull forward and get out of her car. She received second degree burns all over the backs of both of her legs. She sued (not for millions or anything like that just enough to cover lost wages and medical bills) and won.

Now back to the subject. I hope that this isn't just one of those things that the news reports and then never talks about again. I would really like to hear how all of this plays out.

Tigger was lazy, shiftless, and prone to vicious outbursts, like that time when someone took the twinky out of his lunch bucket. Hope he gets the book thrown at him.:)

You are so right!

I was talking to my friend the other night who tends to be a little goofy...and he asked if the characters will now be able to press charges against people who touch them!

The whole incident made me mad...I worked in HOF too many times to count and I just don't understand how this happened...I'm not saying it didn't I just don't know how it could have happened.

Actually, in the US, you only have to show a 'reasonable likeliness' to win a civil case.

Sorry, I just couldn't let this slide. I'm not sure what you mean, but I think you are referring to the difference in the burden of proof between a criminal case and a civil case. In a criminal case the State must convince the trier of fact( that's a jury) of the defendants guilt BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. This standard reflects our forefathers strong beliefs that no innocent person be incarcerated, even at the risk of guilty people going free.

In a civil case, the plaintiff must convince the jury by a PREPONDERANCE OF THE EVIDENCE. It's not as strict a standard, as the defendant is not facing jail. Instead civil cases are about money damages. You do not have to show a 'reasonable likeliness to win' before suing.

The verdict in the McDonald's hot coffee case was drastically reduced as it was clearly excessive.

I'm sorry, it's someone looking to cash in on Disney.

I am by no means sexist in any way shape or form. . . But if you ask me it's some gold digging woman who decided that she thinks Tiggers hand may have been a little too close to her chest. So she decides after the fact to make a cool million off the situation..

I'm sorry, but I'm a white male who is sick and tired of everything being a sexual harrasment case

And at Disneyworld...Come on now!

Any woman who had her breast grabbed in public, and massaged no less would scream. It's a gut reaction.

Please people!?!?!?!?

I have to agree when you use the word "massaged" it sure doesn't sound like an accidental bumping and brushing. As a teenager I may not have said anything out of embarrassment, but as an adult you can bet Tigger might just have gotten smacked upside the head if he tried that with me. Something just sounds off, but I am still waiting to hear the rest of the story before I dig in my heels on my position.

Secondly, If someone were to intentionally try to fondle a guest at WDW, why would they do it in front of 2 other characters, a photographer, and the person that escorts the characters, not to mention all of the other guests that were in the room. Doesn't make sense to me. If I wanted to do something like that I would avoid doing it when there were that many people around.

Thank you very much for saying that!

I don't understand how that could have happened! I know between 1600 and 1700 hours the photographers are still there. 9 chances out of 10 there is a photographer with Tigger.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but at the same time, I don't know how it could have happened.

Please don't jump down my back for saying that...I just know how the room works since I worked there and loved it.

That was actually in the news report, it stated that "as the picture was being taken" the man did this to both her and her daughter. Also, just another thing I thought about. how long are this man's arms. I mean I haven't seen a picture of the mother or the daughter, but wouldn't it be a bit of a stretch to think he could put his arms around both of them at the same time and touch both of them on their ?

Especially if you consider height.

If the mother and daughter are of a significant difference in height....what is he?? Stretch Armstrong Tigger??

Actually - we are on the same page.. I think either I didn't type it right, or you read it wrong. But yes, I was referring to the difference in the burden of proof between civil and criminal charges.

Did this strike anyone else as odd?

Michael Chartrand, 36, was charged with one count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between 12 and 15 years old and one count of simple battery.

Where does the battery come in? Also, I understand the charges concerning a minor, but they could also charge him with some sort of... harassment maybe? with the mother. Is the mother not pressing charges for herself?? Why the "battery"? I'm not getting that.

The legal definition of 'battery' is non-consensual touching. [/B][/QUOTE]

Ah ok. Makes sense now. I thought there was a difference. My definition was like... physical brutality... like hitting. Thanks for clearing that up Racer

I love listening to people argue legal matters on here. It is very funny.....

You people are arguing the mans arm length and you dont even know the size of the man nor the women and her child. This is impossible until you have those facts.

In my post I believe I stated that I had no idea how large the daughter and mother are. I am just thinking that in a costume like that it would be difficult to do. I even asked my husband who has orangatan arms what he thought and he said it would be fairly difficult even for him in a costume like that to reach completely around two women and grab them like that. Not saying it is impossible just saying it would be difficult.

I certainly hope this isn't another one of those false lawsuits against Disney (I heard about the one where someone sued them because a brick fell out of the castle and hit them on the foot  ). The sad part is that if it is a false acusation he may be fired anyway (depends on the union's power)

Edit: spelled acusation wrong. :brick:

What a shame. It shows that Casting needs to take alittle more time when choosing people to represent characters. Something like this was bound to happen. They pay very little and expect people to work very hard. They need to raise their standards, so they can weed out the bad apples.
