NOTE: Not officially confirmed...yet ;)

From this Sunday parking is up from $6 to $7, and the Florida Resident Play4 Days special pass is now available again at $109 (up from $99).

Prices are set to increase from this Sunday for all park entry tickets purchased at the gate. However, there will be a new initiative to convince guests to buy tickets at home via the web, Disney Store and phone prior to arriving at the parks. If brought through an advance channel, the prices will remain as they currently are. If purchased at the gate from Sunday onwards, guests will pay the increased price.

Disney Club card holders will only be able to get their discounted tickets via the advance route, and not at the park itself. However, if buying in advance, Disney Club holders will have the club discount and the advance discount.

I don't suppose buying tix at the Disney Hotels counts as an "advanced channel".

Let me get this straight, attendence is down 6% supposedly, so to encourage local interest they raise the prices. Brilliant !
With fewer people visiting the parks, they need to make a little more of those who do come. I doubt anyone is going to cancel their Disney World plans over a $10 increase, that's only $2.50 a day on the 4 day FL resident pass. It's still a great deal.

I am suprised they are encouraging the purchase of tickets at the Disney stores. I was under the impression that they were trying to steer tDs away from art and vacations in favor of pajamas and snowglobes.

Let's not forget that WDW ($48) has the lowest 1 day ticket price when compared to Universal ($49.95) and Sea World right now.

According to Virgin, they are LOWERING all Disney Hopper pass prices from May 2003.

As far as parking goes, it's been $6.00 for the last 4-5 years, a $1 increase now isn't that unreasonable I think.

Please don't forget that Maple Leaf tickets sells tickets at a great discount . They are cheaper than using your Disney club card. You can contact them through my website. They are a ticket broker for Disney World. (they have the contract to prove it)

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2002) -- Walt Disney World Resort today unveiled a new, advance-purchase program that offers substantial savings on multi-day tickets for its four theme parks.

With the Advance Purchase Savings program, beginning Sunday, Sept. 8, guests who buy tickets before they leave home can save up to $12 on select multi-day Park Hopper tickets, versus the price for the same ticket at the theme park gate.

The savings add up. For instance, a family of four that buys 5-Day Park Hopper tickets before leaving home will save $48.

“Our new Advance Purchase Savings program makes the good value of a Disney World vacation even better for those who do a little more planning,” said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort. “By purchasing multi-day Disney tickets before they leave home, our guests can realize substantial savings.”

Advance Purchase Savings are available for select Park Hopper, Park Hopper Plus and Ultimate Park Hopper tickets.

While still at home, guests can purchase multi-day tickets online at disneyworld.com, by calling 407/W-DISNEY, at participating Disney Stores outside of Florida or through a travel agent. The ticket savings are included when guests purchase select Walt Disney World vacation packages before leaving home.

Examples of the savings:

4-Day Park Hopper (ages 10 and older) purchased at gate: $199
4-Day Park Hopper (ages 10 and older) purchased in advance: $192 …a savings of $7
5-Day Park Hopper (ages 10 and older) purchased at gate: $229
5-Day Park Hopper (ages 10 and older) purchased in advance: $217 …a savings of $12

So as attendance plummets, hours get slashed, and attractions close, Disney responds by raising ticket prices.

Common sense is a rarity these days, isn't it?

I was taught in Economics class about supply and demand. The more something is in demand the more expensive it gets. If attendence is down that should drive the price of attendence down. Granted I'm sure it would take a much bigger plummet in attendence to drop the price any, but to raise the ticket prices is absurd.

Yeah, but this is the entertainment industry, or to be more specific, the "Disney Industry," where not only are the rules different, but they don't even use the same rule book. Disney will NEVER lower ticket prices, even if hell freezes. They may offer very steep and widespread discounts, and they may even give away free stuff for the same prices (like they gave away DCA to every Disneyland AP holder, and they still can't get anybody to visit the place), but they will never officially lower ticket prices. It all has to do with perception, and if Disney were to lower ticket prices, people would percieve that the parks were becoming a smaller value. Of course, that really doesn't matter now, as more and more people are finding out that Disney's parks do not have nearly as much value as they did a decade ago, or even last year.

Steve....

...do you know if the annual pass is effective from the date of purchase or the date of first use when you purchase them in advance like this?...one of the reasons I don't automatically renew is that the ticket becomes effective immediately and you stand to lose substantial time on the ticket if you don't visit right away.

...Before anyone makes advanced purchases of their tickets more than a year or two, think about the loss of use of your money and that even a modest investment return on your money would far exceed any savings you could realize by purchasing tickets in advance...better yet, take your money and pay off that high interest credit card debt or your car loan...

That is a very good point concerning renewal. Timing is important!

If you buy them (i.e. a new pass) at the Disney Store, you still get a voucher. The voucher is good until you turn it in at WDW. However, I think that may change. As for "...Before anyone makes advanced purchases of their tickets more than a year or two, think about the loss of use of your money and that even a modest investment return on your money would far exceed any savings you could realize by purchasing tickets in advance...". Gosh, I hope you don't own a timeshare! The advance purchase of Disney tickets is "chump change" as compared to the DVC or other timeshares. Consider that ticket prices are going up and timeshares are going down! I can buy a timeshare for pennies on the dollar. Disney passes historically rise in price greater than most investments you could buy. Also, you could lose money on the investment! Buy tickets in advance, if you have the money. Do not buy timeshares under any circumstances! You can rent a DVC property right now for far less than the owners payed.

If they raise prices and then offer more ways to get discounts, people will feel like they're getting great value for their money. That may be a strategy to get more people to the parks. They just have to be careful not to offer too many discounts (like JCPenney has a "best sale of the year" every weekend).

I really wish you wouldn't quote me in any of your responses...

...No one was talking about Timeshares...no one. I would never justify a stupid investment by comparing it to another stupid investment.

Please, I'm asking you nicely...don't quote me in any of your replys cuz you have a tendency to misinterpret what is written and come across as an arrogant, know-it-all Mr. Perfect.
