Ticket price increase / FP+ changes coming?

In regards to legacy FP, the "I don't have to run around the parks collecting FP's" defense is somewhat irrelevant because you spend more time (before and during your trip) on MDE planning, reserving and then modifying your FP+ selections than the time it would actually take to walk to an attraction to get another FP.

And considering the time gap between each FP+ selection (usually an hour), you're still walking somewhere to ride another attraction/shop/eat, etc while you wait.

What's the difference between rope dropping Soarin' then walking to Test Track to get a (legacy) FP, then go ride low wait time attractions such as Imagination, Nemo, Gran Fiesta while you wait for your ride time at TT, VS having FP+ for Soarin' then having to use the other tier FP+ selections before you can even attempt to get a FP+ for TT, and your still waiting several hours before you have that option and that point , the day of availability for FP+ at TT is little to none?

Your example doesn’t make total sense. You could still rope drop Soarin’, with a Test Track FP+ for opening time. And it’s not hard to get TT or Soarin’ on the day as a 4th FP. But yes, you would be prevented from getting more for a couple of hours, although that would be more line 90 minutes by the time you’d ridden both.

I’d rather book FPs from home and know I have the three “most important” (to us) rides in the bag. But I prefer to roll up to the park at 10 or 11am. And no, I don’t spend all my hours refreshing, we just see what’s available, and there‘s available Fps even on Christmas Eve after dinner and on Christmas Day. And not just for Nemo either.

Everyone prefers different things. Doesn’t make them invalid opinions.

Correct. Looking at what I've done on FOP in the past 6 months.
On Trip 1:
-Booked it 60 days out for the morning
-Rode it in the morning
-Around 12, got a 7pm fastpass for FOP, but we were planning to leave around 4 pm (after using a safari, NRJ, and 2 everest fps before that)
-Around 1:30 after spamming the modify button on the 7pm FOP, while in line for another ride, a 3:30pm popped up for FoP. I then modified it to the 3:30

On Trip 2:
-Late decision to go to WDW, so started getting Fastpasses about 25 days out (FOP was not available)
-About 20 days out, a 2pm FOP appeared (I had been checked maybe 10 times a day randomly)
-About 15 days out, after selecting modify the reservation on the 2pm FOP, an 11am FOP appeared. I modified the reservation (again checking randomly like 10 times a day).

For Day of Fastpasses, 2 of us were pretty much spamming the FP page every time we were in line for something (even in a fastpass line) or if 1 was in the bathroom and we were waiting for the other one. It's really amazing what Pops up if you just spend like 3 minutes constantly refreshing. My Magic Kingdom day, we actually did everything in the park that offered Fastpass except Jungle Cruise and Aladdin because we roped dropped it. It got to the point where we had to stop "playing the Fastpass Game" to do things like eat, parades, and shows because we could basically pick any ride in the park (except 7 dwarfs, FOP, and SDD) and get a fastpass for it within 30 minutes of the current time. I should also point out, this was during July 4th week, so not exactly dead season.
This is laugh out loud funny.

How so? Honestly I'm just sick of people saying FP+ sucks because they can't get anything good. I realize anecdotal evidence isn't proof of something, but have got 4 different FOP times on 2 separate days all within the 30 day window less than 30 days out (3 were day of).

That's because FoP is one of the few rides where they keep back a few FPs to drop at predictable times of the day. Better have lightning fast fingers. It's not something you can plan on. It also helps if you're a smaller party.

And the sad thing is, they’ve made it so much harder for average CMs to do guest recovery with the elimination of paper recovery passes. Even if a guest was unsuccessful with MM+, a CM could turn their day around. Was one of the few things an hourly CM could do to really make an impact on someone’s vacation.

So I wonder why they did away with them...

Because FP are really being treated as if they have monetary value now. Cheating the system was probably one of the few issues MDE has solved in the last few years, closing loopholes to reserve extra spots on rides and reserving spots for friends. The advantage one has as a resort guest or an AP is probably equated to a monetary value in the offices where such FP decisions are made. Paying for a hotel = paying for the chance of better FPS. So, in a sense, FPs are already a paid system that punish those that don’t have the money to stay at the resorts.

I’m sure they don’t want hourly CMs having the ability to give away free money.

So you don't think abuse by CMs had anything to do with it...?

Smashing the refresh button on your MDE app while at home, every day, multiple times a day. Then continuing that behavior on your vacation, inside the (at one time) intricately designed, themed, transportative lands....

Using that as a defense of FP+. That is very very funny.

I’m not sure if call it abuse. It was an easy way to quickly resolve problems caused by an unreliable system that created predicted operating problems. They could flood the park because of problems with the system.

I mean I'm not smashing it every second while I'm at home or every second I'm in the park. I checked maybe about 10 times a day while at home, maybe one like every hour and half checking for like 30 seconds (far less time then I spend on this site ). While in the parks I did smash the app... while in line for a ride, waiting for others in my party in the restroom, or waiting for a show to start. I guess I could have instead played with the honey wall or the broken games in Space Mountain. Chances are I would have probably been on my phone anyway.

I'm still going to go with the defense that it doesn't take an extreme amount of time to use the fastpass system near its fullest potential, typically I could get something I wanted within the next 30 minutes (sometimes exactly what I wanted) with about 3-5 minutes of refreshing while waiting for something.

Is it for sure they have done away with them? I could have sworn I've seen people go into the FP line with what looked like a paper pass recently. The CM took them, had them scan their MB, hit a button and it turned green, and they went into line. I didn't ask so I'm not sure what it was.

I have seen a lot of people who don't get out of the way at the FP entrance being let in so the CM can get things moving. Which would be more abusive to me than handing out a surprise FP.

This doesn't sound fun to me. In fact it sounds pretty terrible.

Like I have said multiple times though, the parks. and by extension MDE, are not designed for me. There are FAR more guests like you then like me, so I have accepted my lot. I'll go to the parks every 3 or so years with my boys, and when they inevitably grow out of it, I'll stop going.

Fair Point. I do wish there was a better system for someone that doesn't want to spend the time doing that. In fact, I've actually been wondering recently if I could create and app to automate the fastpass hunt while I wasn't looking at my phone. However there is a certain adrenaline rush to getting a TOT fastpass for 15 minutes from now while in the fastpass line for RnRC.

Wouldn’t adequate capacity that reduced wait times and crowding just be better?
