What’s the point if a virtual queue if there is a hour 1/2 long line once your number is called
I know, right?

Especially as we know from the DAS thread some cannot reliably wait that long in a line.

Surely some of those posters who scoff at 20 min waits went right to GR and declined their G+/LL access to the ride as too cumbersome

Between Tiana's downtime and Pirates', I'm not sure what Park Ops is going to do with this side of the park when BTMRR goes down for a year.

That's ... ~5,500 guests/hour in throughput? It'd be like losing almost all of classic Fantasyland:
  • Peter Pan = 1,000/hour
  • Small World = 1,300/hour
  • Winnie the Pooh = 1,000/hour
  • Regal Carrousel = 400/hour
  • Princess Fairytale Hall = 500/hour
  • Most of PhilharMagic = 1,200/hour
Am I not mathing the math there?

Well the VQ is only intended as a ticket to get into the standby line.
Indeed.

And with both LL and ILL which are "by appointment" passes, a temporary shut-down can back up both those lines.

This was true with FP+, too. A temporary shutdown could make a FP+ line become more than 30 minutes or longer.

VQ has an advantage in that in can stop calling groups if they're a back-up. But, that still means there's a back-up.
