So the missing ingredient is musical critters for her party?

In the bayou, Princess Tiana is getting ready to throw a big party, but there’s been a bit of a mix-up between Prince Naveen and Louis. Uh oh — the princess suddenly finds herself in need of a band. We previously shared that all-new Disney characters were being created for this attraction and that’s where the critters come in. Even with the richest roux for your gumbo and the most delicious beignets, a true Mardi Gras celebration isn’t complete without music. We’ll follow Tiana and Louis into the bayou in a last-minute search for this essential missing ingredient for her party — musical critters!
Yes this is the key story element.

What am I supposed to do with all this extra cardamom now?

Sounds a bit like the E.T. ride...but the critters aren't dying.

That's fun. Better than a missing cooking ingredient and it turns out to be "love".
I have to agree, this is definitely better than the ingredient being something specific like hot sauce or some kind of contrived item. Its still not ideal but let’s all remember this is an excuse to get us into the PATF world. If they said the secret ingredient was us I would of laughed all the way down the bayou.
Yes this is the key story element.
Cool

It's about time they clarified this. Would have saved a lot of angst over this attraction for many months now. So she's just rounding up the gang, like Kermit in The Muppet Movie. Better yet, like Jake and Elwood in The Blues Brothers. Well, that's better than looking for paprika or whatever.

The storyline is the biggest criticism I've heard from people involved so far. Very much aimed at the younger crowd for sure. But then this is Magic Kingdom :)
Looking for critters at least turns it back into a fun romp around the bayou. This should have been said a heck of a lot sooner. All we knew is that she was going into her salt mine to look for a "missing ingredient".

Timoléon the Otter – He’s the eldest of the band, but Timoléon’s fiddle-playing is inspired by all the ‘kids’ he spends his time around while in the bayou. When he’s not sawing out a jig, he’s famous for telling stories of days long ago about his explorations of every corner of the bayou.

Sounds to me like they might pull a Br'er Frog and have him somewhere at the start of the ride saying "Now there was one day we ran out of spice for the party..."

Yes
Honestly! I really only pay attention when @DCBaker or @Drew the Disney Dude post, because I know actual construction updates and news are posted, not more complaints that don't belong here

The "spice" being a critter band with some "kick".

Definitely weird to aim something with a huge drop to that kind of target audience. Let’s see what they do with it though.
My thoughts as well. Tiana should have her own indoor attraction that’s more family friendly for all ages imo.

That would have also increased attraction counts and capacity but ya know that would make too much sense
