Whatever they chopped away when they erased all references to Splash probably left unsightly damage. Its faster/cheaper to just cover with greenery.

Are there update photos back more in the thread that show damage to the facade before the greenery was installed?

With how much it rains there i can’t imagine this is a thing. But i also didn’t read through the whole thread

There was no damage. Anything that WAS removed (i.e. the tree stump being the biggest example) was patched up appropriately before any additional greenery was added.

When I say damage, I mean aesthetically, its cheaper/faster to cover with greenery than re design, sculpt, paint, whatever.

I am sure whatever is under the greenery is structurally sound and can hold up to the rain.

As far as comparisons go between the digital rendering shown at D23 2022 and the final product, it's fairly accurate (if not slightly better). The handcrafted model looks different, though it is based of the Disneyland version.

All that being said, the general consensus from the D23 showing from both optimists and detractors alike was "what happened?!". This was when the concerns for most started to arise.
