I thought that was left over from Splash!

Nope! They’ve been adding all that gorgeous lush green.

Was mostly orange rock face with grass patches before.

We last saw him being overpowered and carried off by spirits, after which his tombstone appears. I'm not sure how he would get out of that one.

He was taken, body and soul, to a place not of death, but of torment.

At least that’s the angle I’m going with.

The two stars on the crown on the water tower are for Ray and Evangeline as a nod to that scene from the movie

It was really just Jupiter and Venus.

I've said before that I have little doubt that the ride will look beautiful, and that current lighting, effects, details etc., will likely make the old Splash look stark and primitive by comparison.
My big fears are what they changed from the film, and are leaving out (Facilier) coupled with the food corporation route.
But this news gives me hope.

This sounds really promising! I predict the following songs:

Beginning of ride: “Almost There”
Middle: “Going down the Bayou”
3/4 of the way: Mama Odie and “Dig a Little Deeper”
Finale: “Down in New Orleans”

This sounds very promising amid all fear.

If Facilier is dead, how would they incorporate him? I've read so many (perhaps not you) who deride book report rides (which Splash was). If they don't want a book report, does Facilier have a place?

Yes, I'm not one of those anti book report ride people.
I'd have preferred the ride stuck with the film.
I think it's a tremendous mistake to exclude the villain from the film who - as in the case of many film villain's and particularly Disney villains - is often the most memorable part of the film.
My hope is that the ride will still be well done despite his absence.

Maybe they are saving Facilier for the Never-to-be-built Villains Land...
He would have made a great Host for the land... Have a sort of Belle's Cottage moment where guests walk through Dr Facilier's empty Voodoo store. After being ushered into a back room, the voodoo icons and tools come to life and a portal opens and Dr Facilier manifests and welcomes guests to step into the Other Side... opens into the Villain's Land area... It could be a great setup...

The only indication that it may be light on AA's comes from those leaked renders that SplashArchive posted. Which I'll reiterate look very incomplete and not something i'd base an assumption on given the way they're being used to test out different character configurations. I'll not go through all of the same commentary once again since i've stated my reasoning multiple times now.

The couple of pieces of official art shown for the ride points to it having a significant number of AA's. One of these pieces actually shows off a larger quantity than the same scene in Splash. I was told early on that this ride would follow a more classic template with a large population of AA's, and so far the signs point more towards that than it being sparse. I don't have an exact number, nor do I know if it will end up having as many as Splash. But i'm quite sure it will have far more than the likes of Rise of the Resistance. I agree that Disney doesn't create rides like Splash anymore, but it sounds like this is going to be the exception to that rule for a change.
