But Splash Mountain is in Critter Country, not New Orleans Square.
Wouldn't a giant mountain with a boat in a tree on top of it look really out of place in New Orleans Square anyway?

Exactly.. I think the best example to give also is “The building & ride system for Journey Into (Your) Imagiantion With Figment is the same as the original Journey Into Imagination. I’m sure people don’t mind that the theming & show scenes have been completely altered. Same building & ride system, right?)
Splash Mountain and this upcoming PatF attraction are two different rides. I don't believe Disney is planning to consider PatF to be Critter Country ride when its theme clearly fits the theme of the land next door.

People can support the retheme all they want, I just don’t think they should act like fans of the ride have no reason to be upset.

I remember a suggestion that PATF Splash Mtn would be an extension of NOS, and Pooh, his shop, and Hungry Bear would be Pooh Corner or 100 Acre Wood, really it's own little mini-mini land.

honestly just makes me wonder why they didn’t just transform the French Market into Tiana’s Place/Palace with a ride inside it ala EPCOT’s Mexico pavilion that features the boat ride, restaurant, a small stage performance show (with jazz performers, etc.), and shops. I honestly think it’d be cheaper for them to do that, considering all the work they’d have to do to the concrete and show scenes in Splash Mountain if indeed this thing’s gonna take place in the city of New Orleans with buildings and all, on top of having to make an alternate version of the significantly different incarnation of the ride at WDW. But yeah.. that and what they should’ve done was try & reintroduce Br’er Rabbit & his stories in an animated series on Disney Plus, really focusing on the african american heritage along with black directors, writers, etc. at the helm (possibly even honing into the changes they made to the stories in Splash (the Honey trap as opposed to the tar trap, for instance)
Universal did it somewhat before successfully with their direct to dvd feature, “The Adventures of Br’er Rabbit”. Just seems a much bigger hassle & risk doing what they’re doing with Splash now than what they could’ve done doing that.. but whatever.

Regardless I think this is likely the “short-medium term” plan since I can’t foresee the entire section of the park closing including Pooh, HB and the surrounding area closing at once. It’s also a major thoroughfare from Rise/SWGE to NOS.
While this is all speculation I might guess this area would get a redesign in phases with this serving as a possible redesign/expansion pad for a number of projects.
But similar to how the juxtaposition of GoTG:MB at Bugs Land coexisted it wouldn’t shock me if that happened here, too. Perhaps for a fair amount of time if this project was “accelerated” unexpectedly due to synergy/current events.

And when it comes to Pooh… as much as I absolutely love the Pooh series & always will.. I’ve always held a soft spot for the Country Bears. I honestly think at this point they should just bring the Country Bears back, change the show seasonally like they used to. Really push new merchandise for it. And move Winnie the Pooh to the Hungry Bear restaurant along with his meet n greets going on there… (you could even implement character dining there if you wanted to.. having Pooh & Friends, some of the Country Bears, and maybe even Br’er Rabbit Fox & Bear come by & interact with guests). Heck, if Disney genuinely feels CBJ wouldn’t get enough attendance, then put a Pooh animatronic show in the other theatre (there ‘were’ 2 there after all) but yeah.. I honestly think we can nearly all agree that the Pooh darkride is not all it’s cracked up to be, nor is it the best WDI could produce for Winnie the Pooh (looking at you, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland

Fair enough, I get that, keep the Hungry Bear’s theming as is (No Pooh retheming) but implement character dining there with Pooh & Friends, the Country Bears, and The Br’er trio. That’d be a decent addition, right ?

Honestly, that sounds like overkill. Hungry Bear is not a character dining restaurant. I would be annoyed if I was trying to enjoy my meal while looking out on the river just to be interrupted by a fuzzy.
Pooh and the gang already have meets in Pooh Corner, which makes sense. I was never a fan of the Country Bears and any Brer character should be met near Splash while it’s still up.

All very fair arguments, then basically I think the best course of action would be, bring the CBJ show back with a Pooh show in the other theatre, keep everything else as-is. Add a PATF themed restaurant (with a ride, small shops, & a little stage show inside at French Market.
I believe the Br'ers have been permanently retired from Meet and Greets sadly

One theater of CBJ should have been left open and Pooh built around it.
Lol I hate the idea of PatF taking over French Market, too. I’m not sure if you’ve been to Disneyland, but there’s absolutely not enough room to build a ride, multiple shops, and a stage show on the land that French Market sits on. Its’s tiny. Not the exact same but I despise Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout because it replaced my favorite ride, the ride which led me to discover my favorite TV show of all time. While there wasn't the same principle as your situation, I basically had my mind set I wasn't gonna like the ride, especially cause GotG was one of the few Marvel movies I didn't enjoy even before the ride announcement. Couple that with an ugly exterior, screens instead of physical sets, and extremely cheesy gags (put your hands up to scan them for access cause mine don't work) and all that just makes for a not very fun ride experience in my opinion. The only fun part to me is seeing the Rocket animatronic in the library (they couldn't even come up with a new theme for that part of the ride so they said screw it and just made it a "space library"). I'm glad I was able to ride ToT in WDW in 2019 on my trip and I hope WDW keeps their Splash Mountain so you can at least get your fix there. I think I rode GotG:MB twice: once with my family who wanted to try it when it opened and once with my group of Disney friends, some of them enjoyed but me and a few others did not enjoy it at all, thought the raise your hand thing was dumb, and missed the atmosphere / sets / story / drop sequence of the ToT and not the more constant movement and up and down movement it has now.
Sorry to go off topic a bit, but I understand your sentiment about not wanting to give it a chance, especially because of how little faith we have in modern Disney projects. Some people might tell you to give it a chance and say you're being dramatic but your feelings towards the situation are valid. At the end of the day it's just a theme park ride, yes, but it's your favorite and you're losing the ability to revisit a favorite memory / memories when you ride.
