The more and more people riding it (on both coasts) and saying that it comes across better in person than it does on video just reinforces to me that their dumbest move in this whole thing was releasing that POV video to begin with. It was genuinely a stupid call. Not only was it just a spectacularly poorly done video to begin with, it's just never a smart idea in my opinion to introduce a dark ride with a POV. It does well for coasters, but not for rides like this.

They could've avoided a lot of unnecessary chatter had they just opened it and let people speak on it for themselves. It's gotten a broadly positive reception from the general public (at least from what I've seen), and even some of the fandom who was negative on it from the videos are saying that it's better than the video made it seem (even if they don't ultimately like it; but I would genuinely say the fandom response is more mixed than negative. There's much negativity here but in other Disney groups/forums I'm in, there's a lot who do like it).

It would've been fine without that stupid POV and just letting everyone on either coast experience it for themselves.

Youtubers would’ve made videos anyway. For the past couple of years Disney has been acknowledging this reality by releasing their own well-photographed videos before the new attractions open. (Was Mission Breakout the first? Rise? I don’t know.) To choose NOT to do that for this ride would seem like they have something to hide or be ashamed of.

I wonder if they saw the response to WDW's POV for Bayou Adventure and decided "Yeah, let's not do that again".

It would be so great if Disney put up a huge billboard for TBA featuring the tagline: “It’s fine.”

As a replacement for Splash it falls way short but I wonder if we’d feel differently about it if it was a new build. I think people would have a much warmer reception for sure. Its not a heavy screen based ride and it has….

Water
Thrills
Indoor/outdoor
Lots of AAs/Figures.
And its a ride over 5 minutes long which is almost unheard of these days.

Unfortunately that’s not the reality we’re living in though. It’s a not a new ride and it replaced something much better. Then of course you have the fact that it didn’t even do PatF justice which would be the case in either scenario.

I said this months ago.

If this were a new build, it would have been better than most of their recent attractions.

It'd be perfectly fine as a much smaller dark ride built where the current New Orleans Station is.

If it were a new build, would we be saying, “Hey if you ignore some awkward parts, this really is the kind of attraction Disney hasn’t made since the late 80’s, early 90’s!”

Why not Pooh? There’s still a lot of classic Disney charm in that NOS train station/ MP Park area even though it’s not what it was. Agree that it would have worked better as a smaller dark ride.

If it was a brand new build but still had the same pre-school level story, bland repetitiveness and still shoved most of the cast of PatF aside in favor of a bunch of sappy-looking generic animals, I would be just as disappointed as I am now.

In fact, I’d be more disappointed because that would mean they started with a blank slate and STILL couldn’t do better than “Can you spot the animal musicians? WHEEEEE, you’re all special!!!”

Yes, but presumably a new build also wouldn't be constrained by the pace and size of Splash's infrastructure and not have a 50ft drop just because it's already there.

Lol. The crap story/ dialogue part would be disappointing no matter what but still think I’d be pleased with the other features I mentioned. It’s certainly more fun than Webslingers and MMRR. The infrastructure, scope/ scale and ride time is very much not 2020’s Disney and that would be appreciated.

So much potential for a new build if they had done one. A better story with the aesthetic of the HDYD scene’s dark bayou for the whole ride would have been awesome.

I wish they did something better with the Laughing Place, it just feels like they had to add the shrinking section to fit the existing rockwork (in side-by-sides it’s obvious they didn’t even alter any of the roots).
