Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

I still wish Disney wasn’t super sensitive regarding with Splash Mountain.
I wish everyone was a little more inclined to think critically on the subject. There’s an excellent case to make that the film is cultural appropriation. It’s definitely evocative of the era it was made in, but there are still good elements about it. Those elements transferred to the ride in an effort that brought “Disney’s Brer Rabbit” a lot closer to cultural appreciation.

But the context of the stories was not provided, and with the film and books out of view, this has led to many, that lack knowledge, attaching fictional meanings and symbolisms to characters that ironically represent the opposite of what they are perceived to. Many know this. Many don’t care, or are incredibly fickle in general.

The company may know. They may not know. Regardless, they aren’t making a ton of money off of it, and this is the perfect opportunity to manipulate their audience and get good publicity, while swapping the property for something that is currently more profitable. It makes no sense...but also makes a ton of sense. It’s still wrong. Attaching a negative stigma to culture through misuse of an adaptation, and then proceeding to throw it out is about the worst thing you can do.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah has allegedly been removed from the Fantasyland Courtyard/Carousel loop.

I think, at least currently, that I’ve made it to the Acceptance phase of this Splash Mountain change. I was more mad that they removed a mature tree from the HM queue (as pointed out in a fresh baked video) than I was today hearing that ZADD was removed from Fantasyland. Of course, a large part of that is because we’ve had 10 months to process, we know it’s coming and they already removed ZADD from the esplanade loop.

I’ve reached a point where I’m more concerned that they do Splash justice and less about them removing it because that’s what’s still hanging in the balance in my mind. The fact that it’s being removed is most likely a done deal. It’s like watching your favorite sports team in a blowout.

So I’ve watched/ heard PATF in the background a few times over the last couple weeks as my kids watched and I have to say I like it more than I thought I did from my one viewing 7 years ago. Great sound track, hand drawn animation, nice pace, great villain etc. I really enjoy Dr. Facilliers song. So now I’m at point if they don’t play his song during the lift hill, as we saw in that YouTube video that came out last year, I will be massively disappointed. Also why are they saying the attraction is set after the movie? Does this mean they ll exclude all the songs and characters that made the movie great? Hopefully they don’t mess that up. And of course, I hope they just keep the Splash Mountain feeling alive by keeping the bayou themed sets and having plenty off AAs/ not focusing on screens.

Nothing can replace the songs that we re going to lose in Splash Mountain or just the attraction in general but Im just hoping we look back and say this was the Anomaly. The retheme that wasn’t total crap.

I think the likely direction they're gonna take is using the soundtrack but perhaps recontextualizing it to fit the situation. I do hope they're intentional with it though; my biggest worry is the potential Frozen Ever After-ing of PatF where they pull the songs from the movie without a lot of rhyme or reason and half-heartedly change a few words.

This is getting absurd. Do you think Disney really believes that dumb rumor about it being based on a minstrel song (wouldn't they know if it is or not, seeing as IT'S THE SAME COMPANY THAT CREATED THE SONG?) or are they just trying to remove any trace of Song of the South for more "woke points"? Are they going to take Splash off of Disney Plus because there's a scene where they sing the song? Will they remove Who Framed Roger Rabbit from Disney Plus because Brer Bear makes a cameo in it?
What will they play?
I'm guessing songs from The Princess and the Frog?
I think that after the returned, Splash will become part of New Orleans Square. That’s really the only good thing I see in this whole business.
Nah, they'll probably just keep Critter Country as is with no other changes, aside from getting rid of the Briar Patch shop (is that still there?), and hope that nobody points out that Tiana, Naveen, Mama Odie, and Dr. Facilier (assuming he's in the ride) are humans and ergo don't belong in CRITTER Country.

I think you re right but why even set it “after” movie in that case. So they can put they all important storyline of Louis losing his trumpet? It’s because they re so stuck on “story.” There’s no reason they can’t throw in some vignettes that aren’t pulled out directly out of the movie? They just need to pull off the settings and play the songs. The rest of the stuff is interchangeable.

I sure hope they just expand the boundaries of New Orleans Square, leaving just Pooh in Critter Country. Then eventually Pooh may be replaced and New Orleans Square can take up all of geographical Critter Country as well.

If they're going to replace a classic, they should revamp the entire land to be a full-on Bayou as an extension of New Orleans. I like Pooh, but I'd be okay if it was changed to fit the new theme.

There’s no way that they can make a better and cohesive experience. You’re damned if you try to retell a 90 minute movie in 8 minutes. You’re damned if you create a new story about a missing trumpet (how they will spin that to being inclusive I can’t wait to see).

Splash Mountain worked because it combined three shorts into one story. It also had more talented Imagineers working on it. Not to say that the current ones are bad, but, their recent offerings do not compare to the work of Baxter and the second gen of WDI (let alone the first Gen).

Pooh is a money maker though.
Pooh Corner doesn't really sell that much Pooh merch anymore, other than 1 or 2 Pooh T Shirts and a couple of Pooh stuffed animals, it's now just a generic store that sells most of the things that the rest of the park sells with a bakery attached to it.

This video shows the merch selection very similarly to as I remember it from a few months before the park closed (just with a larger selection of Pooh dolls which I recall had been mostly replaced by even more Disney baby dolls):
