To be fair, I was agreeing with BOTH of you.
I think this ride experience is LESS THAN Splash Mountain. The story is a mess, and there is less to look at than before. Despite that, it is a fun ride with fun music, and most guests don't care about theming like we Disney geeks do. That was my point. We are unfortunately stuck in a time where Disney has figured out it doesn't have to "Disney" anymore and their guests are still happy on the ride, and more importantly to Disney, happy to spend more $$ on merch and food.
TL;DR: You are both right. The ride is not as good as Splash Mountain, but most guests don't care.
(P.S. I gave basically the same review of the new Country Bear Jamboree in WDW. Guests had a great time singing along, despite it being reduced to yet another Disney song clip show.
