Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

So a story to share….

I am visiting Disneyland currently and the other day I was out on the river having fun with a great crew on the Explorer Canoes.

As we are all rowing past the remnants of the former ‘Splash Mountain’, our intrepid river guide at the head of the canoe mentions ‘Tiana’s Bayou Misadventure’.

All of a sudden, as we are rowing past it, this six year old boy starts loudly singing ‘Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah’….!

Yes, that made me day.

And then everybody clapped

Cedar Point attraction ops are always top-tier, but just about everyone else tends to not be the best. Cedar Fair parks, with the exception of Knotts and maybe Kings Island, in general kinda feel this way.

Yeah, my praise was definitely not intended for Cedar Fair as a whole haha; I’ve had absolutely dreadful experiences at Knott’s when it comes to Ops. But those kids at CP really know what they’re doing.

Unfortunately, Disney still probably has better customer service than many operators out there even with the declines of the last decade.

For sure.

Cedar Point operationally is nothing compared to what it was a decade or so ago. Now, their employees are professional and friendly, but alas, their ops are largely indifferent. Better than Knott's, but not a patch on what they once were. Kings Island has better ops and service now than Cedar Point (and also benefits from not having perpetual, ongoing staffing issues to the same degree that CP does).

Really? Darn. As recently as 2017 I was kind of marveling at how efficient they were. If they’ve gone downhill, that’s a bummer.

I’ve only made it to Kings Island once. I enjoyed the park and found the attraction ops above average, though in my subjective/anecdotal experience the employees were maybe a bit less professional than those at CP.

Ops was the one thing that was better at CP a decade ago. The park ran like clockwork with CP loyalists that knew their stuff and how to move people through queues before Kinzel stepped down as Cedar Fair CEO. Every ride ran with the same efficiency you really only see on Magnum now and there was NO Fastlane. Bliss.

KI benefits from being located next to a city when it comes to getting employees, so they've been more consistent over the last several years. Sometimes it feels like CP will hire anyone with a pulse who's willing to work for their mediocre pay rates and they'll STILL end up understaffed. Much better than Knott's, mind, but still leaving something to be desired compared to years ago.

No way! Disneyland just released some new concept art for the DL version:

“Come join Tiana and Louis for a magical trip down the bayou. But beware, some of the critters have noticed an unusual presence coming back from The Other Side.”

Wait— WHAT?!? If this is true and DL is getting a TBA with some actual villainy in the story… I feel very happy for all of you in CA.

MK’s TBA was absolutely a one-and-done for me until they improve its preschool-level “adventure.” I think that concept art of Facilier is more fun and interesting than the entirety of MK TBA’s storyline.

No Facilier in DL either sadly. The two rides will be pretty much identical

This really bums me out. My heyday of going to CP was the early-to-mid-2000s, but I thought the park was still looking great in the mid-2010s when I made a few visits. Sounds like you’ve visited more than I have, so I’ll take your word for it that there’s been a decline.

Makes sense that Cincinnati would provide Kings Island with a lot of talent. I was actually always amazed at how CP was able to find so many happy, fit, go-getter types to work their attractions… with the talent pool of greater Sandusky (?).

Why are you torturing me.

I’m sorry guys. I was just trying to illustrate how easy it was to get this right. Three cropped google images and a description I wrote in under a minute would somehow excite more people than anything that came from the Disney Parks blogs over the last two years +. The imagery on those screenshots and the feelings they evoke is what people wanted from this ride.

Why you got to torture people like that.

Lol. I’m sorry. I really i am. I know I’d be really disappointed even if I only believed it for a few seconds. I’m just disappointed with how badly they failed when it was so easy to get it right.
I'm not disappointed, I thought it was funny. I just think its torture for those that are caught up in it. :)

Boy do I feel like a rube. 😄 But, y’know, that’s okay: For a few blissful moments I actually got to re-experience the hope and joy I used to get from Disney reveals. Oh well. Back to the world of Communicore Hall, Smellephants and MK RoA getting the axe.

I was like.....huh? That's not concept art, that's a Thomas Kinkade painting.
