Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Disney is not confirming the timeline. There is also no way that it can be done in that amount of time, least of all by the way Paycheck run things.

I feel anxiety about this in the depths of my soul because if they botch this (which I am worried they will), this is... not going to be good. Representation is great, but cannot and will not save us, and I worry about what sloppy efforts really have to say.

The anxiety is founded. Nothing rethemed has been of a quality within that amount of time that would blow people away. There is a reason they chose good popular ride bones for this.

Name of inclusivity with the goal to have volumes to sell in the merchandise as the new series comes to Disney Plus to justify keeping an expensive water flume going.

The minimal effort compared to the past.

2024 (assuming it opens Summer time) would only give them 2 years or less if they closed Splash at the end of this summer. It would only give them a year and half if they closed Splash after the coming holiday season. If true, there’s no way this retheme turns out good. Not with the current regime. Unless, Baxter really is involved and has some actual say.

How long did the Maelstrom conversion to Frozen take?

I have said this many, many times, if this is as important as they say it is, they cannot cut corners. They have to do this right.

Unless Baxter is able to control time there's nothing he can do about a short time table.

How involved is Tony Baxter, really? I just assumed that line in the initial announcement was a PR tactic. Haven’t heard him discuss it in any interviews.

Also, I’m really hoping they rethink excluding Dr. Facilier from the ride. If Tony is indeed involved, maybe he can explain to “story!”-obsessed modern imagineering that conflict is actually a key component of storytelling.

And it would get Keith David into the park, which might just make the whole overlay worthwhile.

Assuming this follows a similar 2 year timeline as FEA closing this Fall on both coasts I could see this leading off the parks presentation at the D23 Expo following an announcement next month.

Would be nice to hear from both Carmen Smith and Tony Baxter and maybe devote a panel to giving this a proper send off.

Closed Oct 2014 and reopened June 2016. So yeah it is possible to do this change over in a little less than 2 years, especially if they've been working behind the scenes on this.

Not to mention that Splash itself only took a little over 2 years to build from the ground up as well, from April '87 to July '89.

Well I know they can. The question is can they do a good job. I think they did a good job with Frozen. Granted that’s from watching a ride through and I never went on Maestrom.

Splash would require more work than Frozen due to its size. With that said, they re not touching the flume I don’t think for Splash and I believe they did some work to the flume on Frozen?

That would really add insult to injury. Not using Dr Facilier or the original songs from the movie.

I would think given the overlays importance and given what they've done with similar attraction overlays like Frozen, they can do a good job if they want to.

If we're assuming that they aren't touching the ride system, then its overall sets and show scenes that are changing. In that respect its the same as Frozen. Sure I would say its just "more" due to the amount of sets and show scenes. But its not something I don't think they can do with quality in less than 2 years.

My understanding is that reworking the existing sets and show scenes will require jackhammers. So it will either be a complicated, time-consuming project, or it will simply be a matter of switching out AAs, repainting, and adding projections.

To me it just won't make sense storywise to have Dr Facilier on the attraction. As its suppose to take place after the events of the movie when he has already been dragged to the other side.

So unless they can explain why he is back from the other side it would be weird to anyone who watched the movie, at least in my opinion.
