Look, it's 2022 and we are post ("post")-both MeToo and June of 2020 and everyone is out here trying to act like the Twilight Renaissance is perfectly okay. These are a lot of the same people who virtue signal about Splash Mountain. Cognitive dissonance must be nice.If it really was that problematic it would have never reopened. Instead we have this apparent abhorrently racist ride operating every day around the globe.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no doubts plans had been drafted in the past to replace the current theme. The merch doesn't sell (not that they put much out) and the source is effectively banished into the pit.Like EagleScout said below, and what so many people have said before, this has nothing to do with anything, other than money.
When they did sell DLR merch, it always sold really well and people were always very excited and happy to see it. "Awww, it's BRER RABBIT!!!"/"oh, I LOVE them!!!"--- literally everyone who saw it.I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no doubts plans had been drafted in the past to replace the current theme. Tokyo:There's Critter County generic merch, but no Splash Mountain merch. Other than the photos. I have a few things from Tokyo over the years, including two of the keychains. They're super cute.I wouldn't say the merchandise didn't sell its just that the only place to get Splash Mountain stuff is at the parks that have the ride. (Speaking of which I wonder how well stocked Tokyo Disneyland Splash Merch is).
Probably true. But their reluctance to release the existing film (or, more ideally, a culturally appropriate new equivalent film) prevented them from mass producing multiple lines of merchandise for sale inside and outside of the parks. They essentially restricted themselves to only a few items within the general vicinity of the ride. When they did sell DLR merch, it always sold really well and people were always very excited and happy to see it. To be fair lately Disney has been playing it fast and loose with merchandise actually thematically fitting with the rides. If Disney wanted to they could have princess merchandise in the Tower of Terror gift shop and I wouldn't bat an eye. I mean you can buy Coco stuff at Pirates of the Caribbean.Probably true. With a Princess film, they can create much more merchandise and spread it throughout the resort with ease. It can also fill up the ride’s 2 different gift shops (I’m sure that was a factor in the decision making).

I think that the direction they're going is there will be a lot more generic merchandise and less specific ride merchandise. Take Tiana for example let's say the retheme happens. Tiana already has a load of toys, shirts, mouse ears, etc. You can sell a Tiana doll in park with the rides name and an exclusive outfit that she wears in the ride. Disney can also sell that same doll all over the country just take out the ride outfit and change the cardboard from Tiana's Mardi Gras Splash to the generic Disney Princesses label and you're set.Aint that the truth. I bet they know what sells and what doesn't. It's gotta be the most popular stuff that gets sold all around the parks no matter the theme. PatF mountain may boost princess merch and give Disney more of a reason to sell them everywhere.
Well with the seemingly endless delays hopefully they can figure out how they're going to potentially do this without A. simply popping Tiana where Br'er Bear/Fox are now or B. Gutting the interior and just having a screen tunnelI'm convinced that Disney has no idea what they're doing with this retheme. Splash Mountain is a very large, complex, heavily-themed ride. It's going to take a lot of time and money to tear out so much of the scenery and animatronics and replace them.
Take the Laughin' Place, for example. It's mainly rockwork and fountains. Not exactly something that would fit in New Orleans or a Louisiana Bayou. What's their plan for that scene? Are they just gonna have turn off all the lights, stick some tiny lightbulbs on the rockwork, and claim that they're fireflies?
I’m still hoping for option C: They forget about it entirely.Well with the seemingly endless delays hopefully they can figure out how they're going to potentially do this without A. simply popping Tiana where Br'er Bear/Fox are now or B. Gutting the interior and just having a screen tunnel
Ok, I think at this point, the Twitter department is in charge of this retheme. Could they seriously not think of any better wording? Seems incredibly tacked on (oh wait, it is. HA!)View attachment 614964
"Heart stopping" and "Princess" don't go hand in hand Disney you incompetent doofuses.
Yeah, see, this is why I don't get everyone saying that this is cancelled or is never gonna happen. Every time Splash Mountain is ever mentioned anywhere now, Disney always make absolutely sure to mention that it's going away soon.View attachment 614964
