Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

It was specifically the “people get caught up on some weird things these days” comment that made me pause. Maybe I misunderstood, but this sounds dismissive of the issues some have with that statement and the implications (as you stated, race doesn’t matter, I love you as a human, etc.). So before I say anything else, what did you mean when you said “people get caught up on some weird things these days?”

I meant things that are not in fact problems. It wasn’t just directed at you but a commentary on society in general making a big stink out of everything and being offended by everything. IMO it isn’t helping anyone, takes energy and attention from real issues and in fact only creates more divide. Not that you made a huge issue out of it but it is bothersome to hear that even people saying “I don’t see color” is a problem now. Especially when in this instance I find it to be more of a semantics thing.

Aahhh, but the thing is by you taking this stance, you are actually contributing to the problem. That statement has always been a problem. It was once deemed “okay” to refer to black people as various iterations of the “N” word. That was never okay, even though it was considered “okay.”

There’s a lack of interest in learning and understanding.

4 post later and you still haven’t explained why it’s “problematic.” I still don’t understand and to be honest nothing that you tell me will probably change my mind that “ I don’t see no color” (at least in the way I interpret that statement) is problematic. So if you don’t want to waste your time, that’s fine.

One of the reasons why is because I was making sure I was understanding your previous post correctly. Another reason why I haven’t bothered is because I’m sensing that you’re not ready to open your ears to actually listen and learn. This post that I’m currently quoting is proving just that. You’ve already got your hands covering your ears saying “la-la-la-la-la, NOT LISTENING TO YOU, you’re offended for nothing, not gonna listen to what you have to say, la-la-la-la-la-la.” You clearly don’t want to understand and it’s obvious.

If you’re not genuinely interested in what I have to say and not open to thinking about something differently, why would I bother?

Maybe this article will help, without needing Raven to have to explain.

Mick made it very clear that his mind would not be changed, but this is a wonderful piece on the topic and I hope those with open minds take a look at it.

I’m not offended by your comment at all. I admitted it’s bothersome hearing it because it reminds me of how everything is offensive these days. I am open to listening or thinking of something differently but you already said that my interpretation of that statement was problematic. Knowing myself, there probably isn’t much you can say that would change my mind. I was hoping that maybe you were going to say my interpretation is wrong which would have opened up more of a dialogue. Either I’m always open to listen for the chance I learn something even if if this instance I feel that chance was slim based off what you already said. Lastly you responded to me 3 times without saying a thing so I thought I’d give you an out.

This is what I said was "wrong" with the statement and Raven said I didn't understand.

Pretty based how the article quotes Wendell Berry, though. If you haven't read Wendell Berry, y'all should. He's not my favorite author, but he has some truly riveting ideas.

It’s all semantics. Regardless, being “blind” to race and being blind to racism aren’t mutually exclusive things. IMO most people who use that statement aren’t “blind” at all. They are just saying that they love all people equally more or less and skin color doesn’t matter to them. Why or how does that make someone blind to racism?

I didn’t say you were offended. I didn’t take it that you were offended. I will say that people have always been offended by something since the beginning of time. But people are using that as weapon against refusing to learn, think differently, or evolve with the times.

I feel that if you were open, you wouldn’t have said you weren’t going to change your mind anyway. You said it yourself, nothing I will say will change your mind. And I had gotten the sense that you had no intentions on actually being open and listening, one because of the comments you made a few posts ago and second, because of your usual stance on social topics in general. You’ve never really been one to be open to listening to topics like these and being open-minded. So I don’t make too much of an attempt because it’s a waste of both of our respective time.

I hope one day you’ll be open to learning more about this topic and topics alike and open to thinking about things differently. Send me a PM if that ever happens. :)

I explained how I feel on my last post. If you don’t believe me that’s cool. I’m always open minded to listening but that has to go both ways.

Also in regards to “wasting time” we ve gone back and forth now a few times and I still don’t have an answer to my question. Does it take that many words to type out? Like would it have been any longer than the post I’m responding to? If so, if something is a real issue or racist or problematic should it be that difficult to describe?

Mick, again, if you’re open-minded, why did you say nothing I will say will change your mind? That sounds like a closed mind to me, but maybe our understandings of open-mindedness differ. I don’t know.

I’ve explained multiple times as to why I haven’t bothered opening up discussion with you. At this point, I don’t even remember the question you’re referring to. Did you bother to read the article that Analyst posted? That piece lays out the issue excellently. But actually, I just looked you once again referred to it as “semantics.” Hence my point that it’s pointless.

Astrologers and other scientists don’t bother with flat-earthers. At least some don’t.

No I didn’t read that article because I wasn’t talking to the person who wrote it. I was talking to you. Someone I’ve been having discussions with for years. Anyway, all good. Have a good night.

The article perfectly reiterates what I would have said and more. If you’re genuinely interested, click the link. It’s great.

Goodnight, and sleep well.😴

I grew up in southern California in an area where white people were a minority. Our family struggled financially and worked really hard to just survive. Things are so different now that the government just hands out food stamps and cash. I think back to my childhood and how our family was constantly on the edge of poverty. I would often open the fridge, hungry for something more than our meager meals, to see nothing more than a pitcher of tap water and a box of baking soda.

It wasn't until I got to college that I started learning about how privileged I am, and how terrible a person I am because of my skin color, and how non-whites are better than me only because of their skin color.

I think I have little patience for the ubiquitous claims of victimhood we see today, though my skin tone is pretty light, because so much of my life was spent working hard and having very little to show for it, while now people complain about how bad their lives are from their smartphones as they approach obesity. I still remember that feeling of hunger every night, knowing there was no more food, and knowing we couldn't buy more food because the next paycheck was X days away and we only had Y dollars to last until then.

Things are so much better now, for everyone, than they used to be, and yet we can't have singing animals on a log ride because, if you think about it hard enough, and squint your eyes, you might see something that someone much more privileged than I ever was in my younger years is unhappy about.
