Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

The fact that he focused on the Happy Slaves element just sounds like he read a blurb about it. While I think SOTS can be criticized despite the age and culture it was created in, many of the people critiquing it seem to oversimplify it and Retweet talking points rather than offering any objective criticism of it that sounds like they actually watched it and gave it any thought.

I doubt Bob Cheapek has ever watched it.

"Hey uh sir so you kinda need to address Song Of the South in this video"

"Is that the one with the bunny?"

"Yeah"

"And the one people don't like?"

"Well...kind of"

"Want gone"

"Sir have you ever seen Song Of the South?"

"No. Want gone"

I had no idea Splash was an opening day attraction! Bold of them to build it before they finished New Orleans Square. I bet Guest traffic through that construction zone was a nightmare in the 60's.

Yeah that’s the misconception. People like to say that Splash borrowed the AAs from America Sings when in actuality Splash loaned half of its AA to America Sings briefly until America Sings closed in the 80s. Splash was then restored to its former glory when all the AAs were reunited in 1989 and they relaunched Splash Mountain 2.0.

From what I understand Tony Baxter wasn’t too fond of shipping half of his Splash AAs to an outdated AA show in Tomorrowland but he thought Marc Davis needed all the help he could get.

Actually Splash Mountain was discovered in Florida swamps 60 years ago and then after finding it Walt decided to build a park around it and clone it to Disneyland for it's 10 anniversary. duhhhh ;)
I'm laughing waaaay too hard at all of these. This is so funny!

I like how this CEO clearly doesn't even know what the ride is or what the controversy is. He doesn't even know the name of the movie Tiana is in. He just implies that the Tiana project will tell Splash's story but in a diverse way?

He probably thinks Tiana's movie is a remake of the "Splash Mountain Movie".

Honestly, at this point I'd prefer a refurbishment of Splash Mountain that features characters from The Princess and the Frog alongside the Brers instead of just replacing them.

Sadly the current plan is that if a new IP goes into Splash everything Song gets ripped out

Good lord, it's like a damp sponge gained sentience. He's always so hard to watch. Iger was at least charismatic.

He actually forgot for a second what ride it was that they were retheming. My god.

I know, I know. I've seen that brought up a thousand times in this thread before. You don't have to keep telling me that.

I bet Bob Chapek was corrected by someone in the company afterwards and I bet he was pretty surprised to learn that the ride was built so long after the movie. I do enjoy hearing him speak without a script to truly see what he thinks about “superfans” and what he doesn’t know about the company.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s never ridden Splash Mountain or watched Song of the South.

We've been over this sooo much I'm really tired of it, but I have to ask: "SOS is after the civil war, and the folks he's talking about were 'happy sharecroppers', right?'

More proof that the wide majority of criticism of SotS is based on falsities and willfully distorted facts from people who have in all likelihood never actually seen the film.
I’ve seen SotS several times. The movie sucks—as a movie, I mean. It was made with good intentions, but has aged terribly. It was not a great idea to create a major attraction based on that particular film, and now Splash’s origin has become—quite understandably—an embarrassment to the company. A retheme was inevitable; I’m surprised it didn’t happen long ago.

But, holy crud, Chapek is... I mean... He can’t possibly be real... can he?!?!?
