Tiana Restaurant ever rumored?

I honestly don't think there was a gender problem with PATF, I think it didn't make much money simply because IT OPENED THE WEEKEND BEFORE AVATAR. Wow. That pretty much explains it.

I honestly don't know who in their right minds chose that release date. They could've easily opened it on Thanksgiving weekend, there were no other major releases then!

Ironically I think that's the reason it won't stick. It's not the classic damsel-in-distress situation. Little girls who love princesses don't want to get their hands dirty in the kitchen, they want to get their fingers painted in the salon. Having the first black princess who's a good role model are among the reasons why it should be more popular, but not (IMHO) reasons why it will stay popular.

I see what you're saying, and that makes sense. But as long as disney pushes it's princess franchise, Tianna will stick around. Her story may not be that familiar in the years to come, but the character will stay as long as you see Belle, Aurora, Snow White, and the rest.

I'm taking it from reading this entire thread that my question I was going to ask has already been answered, but anyway, here goes.

Have they done anything at POFQ / POR regarding Princess and the Frog? Is there any theming done, characters, etc?

My DD absolutly worships this movie (hey, I love it too, not gonna lie). I know that in DL in New Orleans Square, they've at least put up some pictures of Tiana and friends (I saw some in an official blog post a while ago), but have they done anything yet at POFQ?

I doubt I'd make an extra trip over there if all they've done is hang up some movie stills or something, but if they had done anything more extensive, I might consider it in our Dec trip. POFQ is one of my favorite resorts anyway, and if I could make my kid's day by letting her see some theming related to this movie, I just may get some beignets and cafe au lait over there so she can see it.

My 10 year old sister would love it if they made this place. Every time we go out to eat, she looks for gumbo because of Tiana.

I'm more interested to see if there is any theming done at either Port Orleans resort to tie into the movie.

And technically more to the original post, if they did Tiana's Place from the movie, it wouldn't have to be overly princess themed. Her restaurant was an art deco jazz club, which if they did right having that with traditional New Orleans food, would be amazing.

Lastly, I think that the princess themed meals sell pretty well. I know we were lucky at 180 days to get into the Royal Table for our ADR.

To answer the OP...yes.

A Princess and the Frog restaurant was one of the early concepts considered for addition to Fantasyland.
It didn't make the cut.

I agree with the post above. I don't think it would be another princess place like CRT but more of a jazzy and classic new orleans feel or at least thats what I would want it to be. I think then it will work for both genders. My nephew loves the movie and I think if the restaurant was exactly like Tiana describes it in the movie, he would love it

I liked The Princess and the Frog until the frog showed up. Seriously. Tiana was a charmer, but when she became green and started "excreting mucus", she lost her mojo. Suddenly she was this bland nag of a frog, and stayed that way for much too much of the movie. Prince Naveen came across better as a frog, but that's not saying much. The loud alligator was no Timon and certainly not Pumbaa, and the voodoo doctor just...didn't have the same sly menace as Scar or even the Fox from Pinocchio. The film's saving grace was Ray the firefly...and well, we know what happened to him.

It's easy to second-guess, and obviously PatF was a movie many people worked very hard on. But too many elements of it just didn't gel. Too bad. I really wanted to like it.

Happily, a new trailer for Tangled has come out. And it looks pretty amazing. The most beautiful CG animation I've ever seen. The humans look wonderful, convincingly alive and attractive, and not like rubber manikins. The surroundings are breathtaking. And there's this horse sidekick who seems genuinely funny. So I have very high hopes for Tangled. There is no way I'm going to miss it. :)

How do you tell if a Disney Animated was a flop?? Look around you..... how many little girls and boys do you see purchasing the merchandise? Let's be real.... ticket sales are nice, but the merchandising is what brings in the money. When all you see everywhere you look is children adorened and playing with the merchandise of a movie, you can bet it has been deemed a success. Sometimes what an adult thinks is successful is viewed very differently by a child. For those who say the adults are the buyers... remember one day that child grows up and buys for their own children. My daughter was/is a huge B&B fan. She is already planning all of the Belle themed parties she will throw once she brain washes her daugter into loving the movie also. I have not see P&F (Refuse to call it PatF as it reminds too much of the blood sucker known as RPats) but I think Tiana is adorable and will inspire little girls of all races for a long time. As for the resturant... I could do some Gumbeaux (shout out to my favorite).

I'll probably get flamed for this, but...

I'd like to see them use the Mark Twain as a Dinner Cruise for PatF in the evenings. In the evenings ONLY. The Mark Twain often isn't running at night anyway... Not only would this help the kinetic energy of Frontierland at night, it would also keep the riverboat running at night, and turn it into a profit center for TDO, which I'm sure they'd love.

I picture a decked out Mark Twain, with a small dixieland band on board. Tables on each level. The Dixieland Band would either stroll, or change levels between sets.

The food would be brought on in stages, in carts, using the Liberty Tree/Adventureland Verandah facilities. People would board and be seated, and then maybe after a song or two, the servers would roll the first course (salad) onto the boat in carts. The Twain would then pull away from the dock, and you'd enjoy your salad or app on the first cruise around TSI. The boat docks again, and the new carts would come on the boat with the entree. Maybe they even make a little show of bringing the new carts on the boat. The boat pulls away again, and maybe you get two trips around TSI while you eat. The boat docks once more, and the last carts with dessert come aboard. Off the boat goes for one more trip around TSI, while you eat your sweets.

The boat docks the final time, and off you go.

They could do two of those per night, depending on when the park closed. They could have narration and weave a story into the trip possibly, if it added to the experience.

I don't know. Seems like a decent idea to me.

Being from New Orleans, I loved the movie. While the VooDoo stuff was kinda overplayed (you have to in an animated movie though, I know.) I thought the movie was great and the scenes were first class. That was a great story, too. I would love to see it added to New Orleans Square at DisneyLand. Very realistic to the New Orleans street scenes. The animators really did their homework.

Yeah, I'm from New Orleans too and I agree about the Voodoo stuff. The prevalence of Voodoo is always played up for tourists, and people outside Louisiana think that everyone runs around the greater NOLA area practicing Voodoo. It's pretty much confined to novelty shops in the FQ. That being said, I absolutely loved the movie (esp Raymond!) and I thought they did a great job with the music and characters. I really cared about the characters and even got a little misty over Raymond's fate. I would love to see a Tiana/PatF restaurant! And they'd have a massive culinary pool to pull from since New Orleans has such a unique and diverse history.

Toy Story 3: $737,089,000
Up: $731,338,164
Wall-E: $521,268,237
Ratatouille: $621,426,008
Cars: $461,982,881

Considering how comfy Disney got with the Pixar films, yeah, I'd say P&F flopped.

Edit: Just for fun, I'll point out that Alice In Wonderland and Pirates 2 (live action, yes) grossed over a BILLION, with Pirates 1 & 3 coming close. With three of the top ten grossing films of all time being RECENT live-action Disney flicks, I would certainly put the number 48 ANIMATED film of all time amongst the flops.

The movie was not a flop buy Hollywood standards at all. It may not have made as much as Disney would have liked but it was NOT a flop. Google Blockbuster because the film fits in the category. I have nothing more to say on this.

So what if it was a 'flop' that just depends on who you ask. Bottom line is it was/is a good movie. And as long as disney is pushing Cinderalla, Snow White, etc. down people's throats, they might as well push Tianna too. She's the latest one and I think a restaurant is a good start.

Not gonna happen. Princess and the Frog was a fantastic movie but it also happened to flop.

If there was ANY chance of this, it would be at Port Orleans.

Was not a flop, as stated enough in this thread.

They've already acknowledged Tiana as an official princess and the merch is selling off the shelves- which is pretty huge for any movie these days.

And a FANTASTIC Disney box-office flop that might be the number one movie represented by WDC everywhere and anywhere: Fantasia.

If fans and critics keep it alive, it will stay alive. Both films were critically acclaimed by fans and critics.

I agree with one of the previous posters, the reason PatF didn't do so well was because it was released the week before Avatar and no matter if your a boy or girl, everyone wanted to see Avatar. But Disney didn't look at it that way, just like before they sat there and thought "Why didn't we make billions on this movie? It was the return of 2D, everyone and their grandma should have wanted to see this movie!" and what I always thought happened after the movie came out was everyone sitting at a meeting and someone saying "Well maybe because it came out the week before Avatar?" and the chair he's sitting on drops into the floor and a new guy comes in and someone else says "Well...it must have been the title!" Which is why they are trying their hardest to push Rapunzel, sorry I mean Tangled as a gender neutral movie, which just ends up making the movie look worse.

I would love to see Tiana's Place at POFQ, I've been saying that since the movie first came out. I thought PatF was one of the best things to come out of Disney in a long time, it made my top 10 list of favorite movies last year, but as we all know with Disney these days it all about the dollar signs not the quality.
