This year's Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade will be based around 'Frozen'

The stage is set at Disneyland and it is Frozen! The Cast members have all been told there will be no parade filming, just performances tomorrow morning. Though, as usual, no word on performers. I'll be there bright and early with an update!

Moderators: Disneyland almost always has their tapings the first full weekend after HalloweenTime. ;)

I like Lion King Better than Frozen but it was not nearly in demand as much as Frozen currently is. Frozen is well beyond anything before it in animation when it comes to it's popularity.

Indeed. The only recent animated film that's on Frozen's level is Toy Story 3, and that's due in part to the build-up from the previous 2 films.

And yet they didn't rename the 1995 broadcast to "Simba's Magical African Christmas Extravaganza".

What a silly argument. Lion King would
Make Zero sense for a Christmas Special. Frozen and Christmas just fit well with eachother. It's smart marketing.

And it's not as if Disney did nothing for Lion King... They had an entire parade dedicated to it. If anything, Frozen got the short end of the stick until it turned into Disney's largest property to date.

"In Demand"? Lion King could have been as just in demand. We just didn't have the connectivity we do now. You can't base a movie launched in the ridiculous social media world to when it was non-existent, IMO. Don't defend the movie just to defend it.

Kman beat me to my point, Frozen is the first major Disney hit in the social age. When Snow White was released people saw it in the theater and probably didn't see it again for 40 years. When Lion King was released people saw it in the theater and 6 months later watched it at home on VHS or DVD. Frozen clips and songs were available on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc for months before the movie even hit theaters and with portable blu-ray players, cell phones, computers, game consoles, downloads etc you can now watch it anywhere and everywhere, it also has a very catchy soundtrack. Add in thousands of message boards and fan groups and we simply live in an environment that makes it possible for things to go viral like never before.

Yup, my point exactly Vegas Disney Fan. Believe me, Frozen fans, I'm well aware how well it's done and can see it's popularity. I just personally believe Tangled and Princess and the Frog are far better written and much more appealing that should also be having the success of Frozen. I had a problem with the writing, not the entire movie. Just want to clarify. I felt they were writing for a far younger audience then they ever have before. And let's not forget the awful promos they released around the premiere of the movie. Juvenile. But no one take this as me knocking their love of Frozen. It's not. It's just an opinion.

All true, Frozen is a beast of a property, much more so than anything before it. Disney is reacting to that as any smart business would. Tangled (which I think is a better movie) had all of the above as well but did not hit the sweet spot worldwide as Frozen has.

Frozen is a hit on a unprecedented level, regardless of why or even if it merits it's status as such. Disney is reacting to that, any smart company would. This is not the 90s, Disney is reacting as they should in todays world. The demand is clearly there, Frozen is a great fit for a winter holiday such as Christmas. Frosty and Olaf can hang out with Rudolph and Sven in perfect harmony.
