People have said that the smell is due to mildew.
Yup... that be the smell of a mildewey basement... As soon as I got on Splash Mountain for the very first ride... I mentioned to my then gf (now wife) ..."This smells like Grandpa's basement!!" And it did...
I think you would need a partially damp cement basement and some ten-test board (ask at home depot) and let them just stink it up for a while... you could toss a little chlorine into that mix if you wanted to as well... It would probably have all the smell of the ride with none of the glamour.
If I had my druthers, I would just build a small scale replica model in the basement.. and then have the smell with some of the glamour!!

lol me too,if i were to build any kind of replica model from disney it would be of splash, its the best... disney needs to start releasing "park scent oils" or something to that effect that you can burn in those little oil smell things, I'd buy up the whole lot of water smells and the pirates of caribbean smells and have my house smell like that constantly.. disney i hope your reading this, get on the ball with that! or have your people call my people lol

The right combination of chlorine and mildew should do the trick.
If you can capture this smell, I suggest you bottle it and start selling it online as a brand new line of cologne. I can guarantee you that I would buy a bottle!

Every Disney ride that I have been on that has water has "that" smell. It doesn't smell like chlorine to me though...:shrug:

there were a couple of reasons why but one of them that stands out is they don't want to bleach people's clothing.
if anyone finds a way to recreate that smell please let me know, i'll be expirementing with clorox and chlorine see if i can get close to the smell starting with those 2, but if anyone else has any ideas, please chime in
