This is not the low season anymore...

Not sure if anyone will see this after the mess on pages 4 and 5 of this thread, but just wanted to add that over labor day weekend, crowds were very low. I expected high attendance, and it was quite a bit lower that the previous two times we had been there (mid october, and 3rd week of april - when easter was end of march, so no easter crowds).

I even overheard two cast members talking in a gift shop at EPCOT saying that last year was crazy crowded over labor day, while this year was "dead" (to quote the employee).

The only day that was relatively crowded was labor day (monday), and I'm wondering if that included a fair number of locals.

Anyhow, it's been a month ago now, but it was still september, and rumored to usually be the "busier" part of sept., but I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd levels.

Not trying to dispute the OP; it sounds like it was quite crowded when you were there, but just to say that maybe not the whole month of september is crowded every year.
We showed up the Wednesday after Labor day. The CM said 600 people checked out Tuesday and only 100 checked in at AKL. It was a slow week in the parks. Sorin had a 5 min wait time on Fri at 4pm. We rode all the rides with a lot of extra time to do other relaxing things.

I think the slower time in Sept this year is due to free dining being extended until Dec. I have been in past Sept and very crowded.

What is a "low season" anyway?

I thought this thread was to point out how MK is so busy, yet everywhere else isn't.
Oops?

I removed all of the off topic, argumentative posts. I left a couple of OT posts, but they didn't involve the economic/political/personal bickering.

Oh, good. I can come back to the thread. Yay!

OK, last year, we went the third week of November, and it was sheer
bliss, almost no waits all week long. It was cooler, though--have never
before watched illuminations with two sweaters and a hat! Almost could
have had gloves on. That just ain't right!

Anyway, we're going next Saturday (yay!) and the "strategy" was to
pick a low crowds week--Columbus day excepted.

Now I'm nervous!

Statements like "you cannot move at WS at night" freak me out!
I've never been there and had it be like that.

Well, this is all just so much yapping, lol, because we're going!
I'm just wondering what it's going to be like . . . . yikes!

Well MK was so slow on Sept 10, we rode Indy for the first time because there was only a 10 minute wait. We went to CBJ (which by the way my wife will never forgive me for this.) for the first time because we had some time to kill. This was my 8th trip to WDW.

It seems to me that the Food & Wine Festival has become more popular in recent years, which might have something to do with why the parks (especially Epcot) are crowded right now.

My impression is that a lot of local residents come by for it.

we just returned from wdw, we were there from 9/19 to 9/27. We had gone about the same time last year. The crowds didn't seem all that bad with the use of fast passes where available. TSMM was probably the worst with wait times usually around 60 -75 minutes and Soarin usually 45 - 60 minutes. Did take advantage of some short lines during MNSSHP on 9/22. Going earlier next year 8/29 - 9/10 and a little worried about crowds but will take it as it comes.

Since my posts seemed to disappear (maybe Mom is using them to wallpaper with?) I'll just restate the fact that all Orlando parks -- Disney, UNI and BEC -- were down attendence wise in September by large margins, even with Disney's free dining.

The first few MNSSHP had the lowest turnout in years.

One would expect October to get busier as the month goes on, but suggesting the place is packed or busier than ever or any such hyperbole isn't rational and it isn't accurate.

I was refering to WDW1974's post but it might have been deleted because, as we both know, the truth hurts.

It was deleted because it was part of an off topic argument (rather than on topic discussion) that was getting overheated - no more, no less.

There are forum posting guidelines that prohibit making remarks that hurt, are rude, or are argumentative, even if they are the truth.

Thank you Mom. The whole "Duck Season! No, it's Rabbit Season!" pattern of arguments than too often run through these threads is tiresome......:sohappy:

I am sure it is true that attendance for the month of SEPT is down, but that does not mean that Food and Wine did not dramatically increase attendance at EPCOT, nor does it mean that more locals didn't take advantage of a school holiday on 9/28.

I know I was at EPCOT and MK for Labor Day Weekend and then again from
9/26 to 9/28 and there were a lot more people in both parks (at the times I was there) this past weekend then there were earlier in the month.

FL residents can get an EPCOT after 4PM AP that I am sure many use during Food and Wine. Over Labor Day while in world showcase, I had times when I could see no more than 10 people in close proximity to me. On 9/27, the walkways in World Show Case were packed, my family of three could not walk side by side.

All I am really trying to say is that, based on the weekends I was there in SEPT, this past weekend was far more crowded than Labor Day weekend.
