Starting that weekend, on Nov 17th, the crowds will grow large since that's Thankgiving week.

The Thursday and Friday at the start of your trip probably won't be that crowded.

Thanks, I figured that may happen. I just want to see the Christmas stuff and I can cant any other time off do to my job.

If you're prepared for the crowds, get to the parks at opening (or start of morning EMH if you're staying on site), you'll do alright. Just a matter of setting your expectations correctly.

Funny- you've just noted my trip dates. :D

I know a number of the southern states get a full week off for Thanksgiving. I'm not sure if the northern states have adopted this, or if it's still like my days in the northeast with just Thurs and Fri. Either way- this will impact crowds.

As far as rooms go...the prices for the values and mods go up to Thanksgiving rates on the 17th...the prices for the deluxe resorts go up to Thanksgiving prices on the 19th. Obviously, by checking in on the 15th, you should get free dining if slots are still open wherever you want to stay...so that helps.

You might also want to check out EasyWDW. They offer a calendar with recommended parks each day and I like their projections much better than anything you have to pay for on Touring Plans. Of course, we're doing our own thing and not hitting their recommended parks each day, but at least I'm prepared and know which days we're going to need a more solid touring plan. Some of their blog posts have their own touring plans detailed, so that's helpful as well.

Beyond that, if you're thinking about going for those dates, I'd book dining ASAP. While there are still plenty of places to eat...I noticed back on day 180 that there just weren't as many slots open early on (i.e. more people booking). When free dining was offered a few weeks ago there was another dip in availability- i.e for people checking in on or before the 15th.

Last November we went from 11/15( tuesday) to 11/19(saturday) and it was nice and quiet. It started to get packed on our last day which was the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Since it was our last day and we were at a park we had been to that visit already it wasn't a big deal. For most of that week we didn't have to wait more then 20 minutes for rides. We were able to just walk on to most of them. I have been the week of Thanksgiving and it was packed but still enjoyable. The week of Thanksgiving they do offer extra magic hours in the evening if you are staying in a Disney resort. This helps make up some of the time you will be waiting in lines. The Osbourne Lights are worth seeing.

I have been the week before Thanksgiving. Up until Wednesday afternoon, the parks were very light. Wednesday before Thanksgiving, they really started to pick up and then from Thanksgiving on, it was really busy.

MVMCP will be going on and the place is decorated for Christmas. You can tour all the resorts and see their decorations. If you go to the MVMCP you can see Santa. I had stockings in the room waiting for my DH and I. Its a great time of year to go! :) A great way to kick off the holiday season! :)

When the castle lights up at dusk, it is amazingly beautiful. People all around me in the hub were crying.
The Osborne lights are phenomenal. Definitely not something you want to skip.

I've been during Thanksgiving twice (most recently 2010) and also during spring break several times and I'd take Thanksgiving over SB any time. Earlier in the week, as people have pointed out, wasn't too bad and we even did MK on Thanksgiving and didn't find it to be horrible. We walked on Space Mtn at 10am. Also if you're into the nighttime parade, what we did was didn't sit for the first parade (I'm all set sitting for 2 hours on a curb!! lol) but we got to Main Street and watched Wishes and as soon as Wishes was over we plopped ourselves down on the curb in front of Casey and waited for the second parade. Wishes was at 10, the parade was at 11 so we had about 45 minutes to wait. That's definitely the way to do it if you want to watch the parade on Main Street.

We went the week before Thanksgiving last year (left the Sunday before Thanksgiving). The crowds definetly picked late in the week with the arrival of the folks coming for the holiday. The weather however was absolutely phenomenal, low 80s all week and very little humidity. It makes it much easier to deal with people when its not 95 and 100 percent humidity. The Christmas music and decorations kept coming out more and more as the week progressed. If you hit the parks early, particularly the closer you get to Thanksgiving, you should be able to enjoy yourself and the Christmas atmosphere.

Christmas decorations begin to appear magically everywhere. We stayed at AKL and there were no decorations when we arrived. One morning when we went into the lobby a giant Christmas was there. The gift shop was also decked out. They must have worked all night because we got in around 11pm and were out and about at 7:00am. You should also check out the lobby at the Grand Floridian if you have a chance. I stayed there over thanksgiving and their lobby is amazing. The life sized gingerbread house is adorable! The Osbourne lights are absolutely breathtaking. That is a must on your list. Look out for snow!
