Things rolling along smoothly for Harry Potter

You can absolutely say that and with good reason. Disney hasn't opened anything worth the hype in over 10 years. This will meet most expectations.

Everest?

I'm sure it's a quality project, but I'm not sure everyone will have their expectations in check, especially Potter fans. Many of them are still expecting an entire park, when it's really just a small area with one new ride and two refurbished ones. Still, I'll probably enjoy it more than the new Fantasyland.

If you're a Potter fan then you've probably researched what was coming in. I doubt people think this is a brand new theme park. Clearly all advertising says it will be at IoA. And it may be one new ride... but it's one major never before done ride.

Would you rather have 1 major, groundbreaking E-ticket ride or 2 d-tickets?

Well Universal was calling it a Theme Park within a Theme Park.

The projects seems like it will be one of the best themed areas on the planet though. Definitely will raise the bar for what people expect from a theme park.

Fell laughably short of its hype.

And trust me, the Potter fanatics have done little to no research. I've been lurking in some of their.... natural habitats. They can have threads several hundred pages long and remain surprisingly ignorant. They just can't wait to see that new PARK (within a park?) The ones who think it's in “Adventure Island” are the most informed of the bunch. Universal has a wee problem.

Will have photos up Friday evening, Saturday morning after I get back from the station. I just returned from six days in Orlando and visited Universal on Dec. 15.

Took a lot of snaps of Potterland. Looks impressive. The Dueling Dragons castle is mostly shut down with expansion work. It was quite weird walking "in" the "exit" and immediately being dumped into the "ice" coaster line.

As soon as I was done riding ice, all I needed to do was exit the row, cross a small rope and into the "fire" line. It's sort of like going into the quick return line, but you don't go into the castle interior. Instead it's all in the line area.

Rode both coasters six times in about 15 minutes. The coasters were not filled. No line at all. Had a row to myself and the row in front of me there were no riders.

Two cast members said the coaster would be shutting down in January for an extended refurb and refit to complete the transformation. Once the ride shuts down, so will the temp wooden walkway in order for Diagon Alley to be completed and connected. The cast member said both coasters will be transformed into Potter-specific dragons.

Hogsmeade. Thanks. Drat only seen the movies; never read the books. Diagon (sp) Alley is in Hogsmeade, right?

Actually Diagon Alley is a seperate location of shopping and goods. I kind of wish they would of went with Diagon Alley for the park but strucually and the wide walkways of Hogsmeade with its close proxmity to Hogwarts provided for a better concept of an area I suppose. It may be a bit confusing because Olivanders which was originally in Diagon Alley is also now a store in Hogsmeade at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I hope this did not sound too confusing.

For anyone who has not seen the site in a while or ever. www.Universalorlando.com/harrypotter

And at that site is concept art and also this page which is an edited version of the live announcement when they let everyone know Spring is the time Wizarding World should be opening. http://www.universalorlandoresort.com/harrypotter/first_look_uo.html

As stated in my previous post, took a series of pictures Tuesday, Dec. 15. After visiting in October 2007 and August 2008, this time around I was a little confused at where the entrance to the Dueling Dragons was, since there is a lot of construction.

It was super foggy Dec. 15 in the morning. Took until after 10am for the fog to lift. Very unnatural for heavy fog in Central Florida in December due to el Nino effect, the locals said. Guess Attractions Magazine filmed the latest progress a day earlier than my visit.

Enjoy --

And the ride inside is coming along nicely as well. I promise you won't be disappointed. From the entry, queue and load area to the amazing Quidditch match, the dementors s__________g your soul, the spiders, the trees and the dragon encounter. You will finally be able to walk off of a ride in Central Florida and say, "wow that was better than I thought it would be."
Honestly, I can't wait to see this! Why can't Grad Bash and Pow Wow come any sooner!

It seems like it will only be one new attraction and the two re-themed attractions. From what I understand from what has been said on the boards (it may have changed, or I remebered it incorrectly) it will open in two stages: Stage 1, which will feature the shops and the re-themed attractions sometime early next year, and Stage 2, which will consist of the new attraction being opened, around Spring next year.

Nope. I heard rumblings of your phase one happening this month, but it's all opening together in Spring 2010.

About 10 of the die-hard Potter fans I've talked to all thought it was a new park... which struck me as odd, 'cause like you said, the advertisements all say it's within IoA.

Olivanders which was originally in Diagon Alley is also now a store in Hogsmeade at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I hope this did not sound too confusing.

Was thinking of that a couple of days ago, actually. As far as we know, is Ollivanders the only shop out of place relative to book/film locations?
