The Yankee Trader closing for refurbishment - is a dedicated Haunted Mansion gift shop coming?

It seems like the Mouse has been pushing more HM merch in the last several years. Is this just Disney finally answering guests desire for attraction-specific merch or could this have something to do with the still-developing Del Toro flick?

Probably both. There's also the animated Mansion special in the works as well.

Since the new HM merch is supposed to be in park October but Yankee Trader isn't going to be open on time for the launch anymore, where will they put the items in park? I ask only because the previous HM items were only available at select locations initially - Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe being the only location in MK for example - rather than being available in every shop like most merchandise. I know when I was originally looking for the bat stanchion bottle stopper it wasn't at the Emporium, only the Christmas store. (They've since expanded the HM items to more stores so I wasn't sure which approach they were going to take with this secondary release of HM items.)

I had hoped they would bring the cart back or use the Presidents gift shop to be close to the Mansion. I have found some non clothing stuff At World of Disney downtown and Mouse Gears at Epcot. Main Steet does have some stuff, especially Tees. looking for bookends and plates. Dooney and Bourke bag, too.

It will all be part of the Halloween display that will surely arrive in about 2 weeks. Heck, I've seen the stuff you mention available in gift shops at the resorts from mid-August on.

He recently answered on an AMA that the film is not dead and getting closer to receiving the greenlight as he is still working out the kinks in the script with a writing team. But once that is done he said he expects disney to support it fully!

Also if the refurb was extended this much what do you think they are doing in there that could take this long?

As of Saturday evening, it was still open as normal. Quickie shot I snagged while walking by:

mk-yankeetrader-july14.jpg

That photo just screams "1970's Theme Park Souvenir Shop". With the un-themed 20th century track lighting, and the faux "old fashioned" shelving units, and laminate flooring, and flat paint colors. But to prove it's the Obama 2010's instead of the Nixon 1970's there's a bunch of cheap and generic Chinese made Disney merch on the shelves and a gaggle of chunky American tourists wearing E-Z-Go casual separates that reveal their suburban strip-mall tattoo parlor artwork. Cripes.

This shop really needs some help. Let's hope this refurb brings it up to the level of shopping found at Diagon Alley and other recent Universal Studios projects.

Drat!!! I was so happy we'd see a HM shop on our Oct-Nov trip!! Now it's not gonna happen. I hope they at least have a bunch of the new HM merchandise out by then! :(

a re-roof, possibly replacing all the interior, or possibly when they opened the walls they found significant asbestos/mold, and need a remediation team, or just the structure needs replacing due to damage... could be anything that a contractor would tell you when they open the walls in a 40 year old house... have you ever seen 'holmes on homes'?

Yes, I have, and I love that show. I can barely hit a nail with a hammer, but for some reason, shows about rebuilding/restoring structures fascinate the heck out of me.

Damn. The extension of the refurb hits us pretty hard, we just pushed our next trip from September to November and were sure that would guarantee to see the new shop (we are just DYING to finally see a true HM gift shop) and now it's sure we will not see it at all this year.

Related to HM merchandise....

I'm not 100% sure if this is new or not, but I've never seen it before: A Madame Leota tombstone car antenna topper!

This is just a quick cell phone pic of it sitting on my desk but you get the idea. :)

I saw it in the Emporium Saturday night. The Halloween items are starting to go out and there were just a bare few Haunted Mansion items so far (none of the new line of items yet) and this was one of them. (There was also a Hitchhiking Ghost topper but I've seen that one before.) I had to snag it. It's actually really nicely sculpted with quite a bit of detail for being a foam topper.
