plus....they have a lot to gain.

Marriott probably does not have as much to gain, but has always been a good corporate citizen...which is something lacking from way too many companies these days.
Yes, we are on the same mind-meld!

Hurricane Katrina Relief Update

As we watch the crisis of Hurricane Katrina continue to unfold, we wanted to keep you abreast of the Company's involvement with various relief efforts. As you may already be aware, Disney contributed $2.5 million toward three relief efforts: $1 million to the Red Cross, $1 million for rebuilding efforts and $500,000 to the Points of Light Foundation's Volunteer Center National Network.

Disney's donation to the Red Cross is already being put to work. In addition, Disney's $500,000 donation to the Points of Light Foundation Volunteer Center National Network was immediately made available to Volunteer Centers in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and adjacent affected areas. The funds are going to first-phase disaster relief and longer-term disaster recovery efforts by supporting volunteers working in the affected areas.

In addition to this corporate donation, Los Angeles-based ABC television and radio stations have been successful in helping to raise more than $600,000. WJR in Detroit, Mich., has raised $430,000 in funds, as well. Through direct coordination with the American Red Cross and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), ABC Radio Networks has scheduled public service announcements (PSAs) on more than 4,500 affiliate stations and has dedicated hours of reporting through ABC News Radio.

In addition, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The WB and UPN are joining forces for a primetime special titled Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast, to raise funds for those affected. This one-hour commercial-free simulcast airing Friday at 8 p.m., ET, will salute the brave citizens in the devastated areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, and pay tribute to the rescue personnel guiding relief efforts in the region. Walt Disney World will provide an additional 2,000 call seats to help ensure phone lines will be accessible for donations.

ABC's A Better Community is airing existing PSAs and is producing another for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, while Disney Channel will introduce Express Yourself interstitials focusing on hope and the importance of volunteering in one's community.

ESPN, ABC and the National Football League have agreed to televise the New Orleans Saints-New York Giants game beginning on ABC Sports, Monday, Sept. 19, starting at 7:30, ET. At 9 p.m., the game will be picked up by ESPN and the originally scheduled Monday Night Football game, the Washington Redskins at the Dallas Cowboys, will start on ABC. Coverage of both games, and the day-long build-up to the telecast, will provide a call to action for Americans to come to the aid of those in need. ESPN is also running PSAs to further support the recovery efforts.

As part of the rescue efforts, Brunswick Corporation and the Walt Disney World Resort delivered nine Trophy center console boats with Mercury Marine engines to New Orleans. These boats are being used by FEMA to shuttle refugees, officials and medical supplies into the city.

To help children and families get through this unsettling time, Disney is also sending televisions, DVD players, videos, books and games to shelters in six states, and has worked with the armed services to make sure that Disney films are on hand for children and families in locations where they can be shown.

Beginning later this week, Walt Disney World and Disneyland are making it possible for Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters to visit shelters to help bring smiles to children during this difficult time.

The above-mentioned is only a snapshot of how the Company is rallying around those impacted by Hurricane Katrina. If you would like to learn more about recovery efforts or make a personal donation, please visit one of the following sites:

Very nice. Especially the boats. WDW is always saying how, if they were a country, they would have the world's 7th largest navy. So, now, they are lending part of their "navy."

Also nice to send Mickey Mouse and his friends to the shelters, along with some TVs and DVD players and movies.

Good work.

I still think, though, that they could open one whole WDW resort to the evacuees, and hold a job fair for Orlando and WDW while they are there...

Anyhow, very good work so far, though. Thanks for posting.

P.S.: Wal-Mart is doing a great job now, too. $20 million in cash donations, and they are using their near-perfect distribution network to get FREE food and water and supplies to people in the affected areas faster than the relief agencies can do it. Kudos to Wal-Mart, too.
