That article’s quite telling in terms of how many people were willing to share details that portray Iger in an unflattering light.
Sacrificing 100 years of Hollywood business strategy in order to force streaming numbers. Maybe they should call D+ Iger’s folly.Another data point on the D+ stuff- this seems like a need to juice the subscriber numbers over the next few months.
It’s a little odd the D+ division is giving away this content for free they’re paying the other side of the house roughly $200M over the next week (TLM and Elemental streaming rights payoff) but things must be desperate.

Disney+ Slashes Price for a Few Weeks In Promo Effort to Boost Ad-Supported Subscribers
Disney will offer Disney+ for $1.99 per month as it prepares to debut 'Elemental' on Sept. 13 and the live-action 'Little Mermaid' on its streaming service.www.hollywoodreporter.com
I’m sympathetic to the situation they’re in. This presumes status quo is sustainable. It isn’t. And, seeing how Netflix leapfrogged them, I get the need to internalize those operations more fully and be done with the pesky revenue sharing and marketing issues with theaters.Sacrificing 100 years of Hollywood business strategy in order to force streaming numbers. Yeah, that pesky movie business, the cornerstone of the company’s brand since Day 1.I get the need to internalize those operations more fully and be done with the pesky revenue sharing and marketing issues with theaters
I don't think it's about juicing subs anymore. This is about creating sticky subs. "The first taste is free, the next one is going to cost you."Another data point on the D+ stuff- this seems like a need to juice the subscriber numbers over the next few months.
Subscription services forever have done discount sub rates to get people in the door. This isn't anything new.I don't think it's about juicing subs anymore. This is about creating sticky subs. "The first taste is free, the next one is going to cost you."

It's about dollars, not users.
There's gonna be some heavy parasocial tears... followed by a stampede to get those tie in Disney-Apple phones so you don't get put in the peasant tiers in the parksAnd every fan that blindly supported him, threw money and ignored the warning signs will cry worse than if their puppy died

The text is talking about their subscriber target - not their profitability target. For those that keep clamoring D+ is going to reach profitability by 2024, here’s a few buckets of cold water on that proposition (presumably by someone in the know, perhaps Chapek or Daniel):

Doesn't make sense. Iger does wake up early then works out 45 min on his home gym Versa climber ( not for the faint of heart ) then the article says he then showers in his office ? After 45 min of any cardio you would be drenched in sweat.![]()
