Pre-Trip The wait, who is coming and where are we staying PTR

Hello, hello!
Well, Disney sucked me in again and we are heading back to the World! Its funny how it started off with just my Mom and I being addicted and now the bug has hit my whole family :)

I usually break my introductions down into little sections, but planning this trip was so chaotic I think it deserves to be told as a whole story :) Put your seatbelt on, this is going to be a long ride!

Way back when in March (before our last trip) I was picking my vacations and decided to pick my time off to match the time of the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Jill and I always wanted to do that race so thought during my residency would be the best time to do it. So, the day came for sign ups and we both decided hey why not register? We can always defer a year if it doesn't work out
I raced home from work and before heading to my afternoon clinic spent a stressful 20 minutes registering for the half. This screen is so stressful! (Also, it says 9:03 am but I believe it was at 12).
IMG_1590.jpg

We knew my Mom would want to do it too so we signed her up, without telling her (aka the root of my stress, registering on 3 different computers for 2 spots haha). Jill and I fought over who had to tell her in case she would be mad (not sure why we thought that haha) and Jill lost so she told her and my Mom was thrilled! Woohoo this was going to be a great trip! We had so many options of where to stay and we planned on getting Annual Passes in May when we went so we would be all set!

Ok, fast forward a little bit and my sister Betta (Elizabeth is her real name) decided she could not miss another trip and she wanted to bring my nephew along too, but did not think her fiancé Ron could come. Yay! The baby is coming (oh and Betta too haha). For several reasons I wont get into we decided we would all stay in the same room and my Dad would join us.
Before telling my Dad the plan my Mom and I were in the car talking about how we would stay anywhere that was NOT Art of Animation. We just didn’t like that hotel for some reason. We were racking our brains where we could stay as a party of 6 and my Mom came up with Fort Wilderness. Great idea! This hotel holds sentimental value for us as it is the place we stayed for all of our early trips in the 90’s. Everyone was happy. So, we sat my Dad down at dinner and told him our plan and we may or may not have pushed him into saying yes :p
Here we are in the Fort Wilderness Pool in 1992

Then one night I was thinking about it and I realized Fort Wilderness doesn't have an actual food court for us to eat breakfast/lunch at and we won’t have a car. We considered maybe getting a grocery drop off or a golf cart but this didn’t make sense to us. I reluctantly suggested Art of Animation because this would mean two bathrooms, a food court and it was a bit cheaper. Everyone agreed to that so I canceled Fort Wilderness and booked Art of Animation. Everything was set! We went on our last trip, I booked the dining reservations during the trip (for 5 adults and an infant) and everything was great. Then, like two weeks after we got home my sister lets me know her fiancé is coming…..

Ok well, major change in plans, but its OK I can handle it! The first step was finding a hotel for four of us (Jill, my Mom, my Dad and me). The one problem was it’s a race weekend and there was barely anything available. Betta, Ron and Max decided to come down Monday and skip the race weekend. They found a reservation at POFQ starting Monday so I looked and I found one as well. I made sure my Dad wanted to come on the trip since we kind of forced his hand originally and he said of course he did not want to miss a vacation! So I booked POFQ from Monday November 7-Saturday November 12.
Heres a throwback picture of us visiting POFQ in 1997 :) Found it when I was looking through the old pictures (thats my cousin Jenny in the back, with Betta and I).
IMG_20160725_0008.jpg

I searched and searched the website for something race weekend and everything was so expensive I didn’t know what to do. Finally I found a semi-decent price on Orbitz for a hotel that my Mom suggested and Jill really wanted to stay at: The Polynesian!!!! It will only be from Saturday November 5th – Monday the 7th but it’s a dream come true for us!
Here we are at the Polynesian in 1997

Everything seemed great until I started looking at flights. They were insanely expensive to fly out on Saturday but Jill has to work on Friday no exceptions so we couldn’t leave earlier. I am, however, on vacation the whole week before and my Mom is off on the Thursday and Friday before so we checked out flights and the vacation creep hit us hard…haha. It was actually cheaper for my Mom and I to fly out Friday and stay at a value resort than to fly on Saturday. I looked again and it was still cheaper to fly out Thursday and stay at a value so we added two extra days. We picked All Star Sports since it was the cheapest. We have stayed at the All Stars (Movies) before but not since the early 2000’s!
Here are some All Star Movies throwback pictures

Well, we got the letter saying that the POFQ Food Court will be closed while we are there! I am surprised; I did not think it was going to last that long, but thats OK! Seems like they will still have a lot of food! May run into @Longers and @prfctlyximprct at Riverside after all :)
We also got a letter saying the one pool at All Stars Sports is closed. No biggie :) We probably won't spent that much time at that hotel anyway! I will trade off these closures for a hopeful Rivers of Light opening! :p

We stayed at Riverside a couple of weeks ago and decided to visit French Quarter for their beignets. I'm not sure how they handle it during busy times but the dining area is smaller than I thought. We had to wait in line, which stretched out into the lobby, and they had two cashiers just inside the door that takes your order, gives you a table number, you find an empty table, and then they'll bring you your food. And they had 2 Coke Freestyle machines close to the cashiers. It was hectic when we were there and had to wait forever for those 3 beignets. We decided not to go back while they are having renovations. Hopefully you and your family have a better experience!

Also, Ohana is my favorite dinner at WDW and I feel so cheated that Hurricane Matthew stole my reservation. It's become our tradition to eat here every trip. I'm actually trying to see if we can go back for a long weekend sometime in 2017 just so I can have dinner there LOL. It just depends on if I can find someone to house sit my dog...

It's funny seeing pictures from the 90's. It's only 20 years ago. That's when my family starting going down to Disney in 1992. We've been hooked ever since. We used to stay at the Villas at the Disney Institute back then.

I'm assuming that back up is because the French Quarter food court is still closed so its a bit chaotic! I'm not looking forward to dealing with that in a few weeks!
I'm so excited to eat at Ohana for dinner! I'm sorry you didn't get to experience it this time :( Long weekends are my jam! Definitely worth doing it if you can swing it!

They weren't that bad. A lot nicer than staying at a Downtown Disney hotel like we did before we started staying at the Villas.

I should see if I can dig up my old pictures. I'm sure I have them somewhere.

Also, off the subject, sorry to hear about McCoy. Think the Bills can win without him this weekend?

Seeing your envelops reminded me of something I forgot to include in my trip report. We don't need to tip the mousekeepers because we always leave the do not disturb sign on the door. But this was our first time flying down. We didn't tip the DME bus driver on the trip to the resort bc my husband carried on his backpack and I only had a small carry on size luggage that was really lightweight. However, since the resort airline check in wasn't operating when we checked out (due to the hurricane), we had all of our bags with us and they were heavy at that point. We did tip the bus driver this time and I saw we were the only ones that tipped the driver. Is that not common? The driver seemed very appreciative but I found it odd that other families with a lot of luggage didn't do the same. Wasn't sure what the correct procedure is for that.

Your're still arriving on the 3rd, right? I'm going to miss you by one day. We are there from 10/29 to 11/2. (Halloween party on 10/30.)

We actually tip DME every time despite only having our carry ons (since we use their luggage service both coming and leaving). I do not really see anyone else tip though!

One more day! Today I am cleaning my parents house (because I am such a great daughter...and I can't handle down time) and getting everyone else ready to leave! My Mom and I are getting our nails done today and then I am sure we will panic shop at target once more haha. I am so excited I could not sleep last night! From like 2 am to 4 am I was wide awake just getting really excited (and nervous to run a race...)! My Dad said to me yesterday "are you not excited because you go so often?" I was like, duh, of course I'm super excited! :p:inlove:
