Pre-Trip The wait, who is coming and where are we staying PTR

Hello, hello!
Well, Disney sucked me in again and we are heading back to the World! Its funny how it started off with just my Mom and I being addicted and now the bug has hit my whole family :)

I usually break my introductions down into little sections, but planning this trip was so chaotic I think it deserves to be told as a whole story :) Put your seatbelt on, this is going to be a long ride!

Way back when in March (before our last trip) I was picking my vacations and decided to pick my time off to match the time of the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Jill and I always wanted to do that race so thought during my residency would be the best time to do it. So, the day came for sign ups and we both decided hey why not register? We can always defer a year if it doesn't work out
I raced home from work and before heading to my afternoon clinic spent a stressful 20 minutes registering for the half. This screen is so stressful! (Also, it says 9:03 am but I believe it was at 12).
IMG_1590.jpg

We knew my Mom would want to do it too so we signed her up, without telling her (aka the root of my stress, registering on 3 different computers for 2 spots haha). Jill and I fought over who had to tell her in case she would be mad (not sure why we thought that haha) and Jill lost so she told her and my Mom was thrilled! Woohoo this was going to be a great trip! We had so many options of where to stay and we planned on getting Annual Passes in May when we went so we would be all set!

Ok, fast forward a little bit and my sister Betta (Elizabeth is her real name) decided she could not miss another trip and she wanted to bring my nephew along too, but did not think her fiancé Ron could come. Yay! The baby is coming (oh and Betta too haha). For several reasons I wont get into we decided we would all stay in the same room and my Dad would join us.
Before telling my Dad the plan my Mom and I were in the car talking about how we would stay anywhere that was NOT Art of Animation. We just didn’t like that hotel for some reason. We were racking our brains where we could stay as a party of 6 and my Mom came up with Fort Wilderness. Great idea! This hotel holds sentimental value for us as it is the place we stayed for all of our early trips in the 90’s. Everyone was happy. So, we sat my Dad down at dinner and told him our plan and we may or may not have pushed him into saying yes :p
Here we are in the Fort Wilderness Pool in 1992

And outside our cabin in 1997
IMG_20160725_0005_NEW.jpg
IMG_20160725_0006_NEW.jpg

Then one night I was thinking about it and I realized Fort Wilderness doesn't have an actual food court for us to eat breakfast/lunch at and we won’t have a car. We considered maybe getting a grocery drop off or a golf cart but this didn’t make sense to us. I reluctantly suggested Art of Animation because this would mean two bathrooms, a food court and it was a bit cheaper. Everyone agreed to that so I canceled Fort Wilderness and booked Art of Animation. Everything was set! We went on our last trip, I booked the dining reservations during the trip (for 5 adults and an infant) and everything was great. Then, like two weeks after we got home my sister lets me know her fiancé is coming…..

Ok well, major change in plans, but its OK I can handle it! The first step was finding a hotel for four of us (Jill, my Mom, my Dad and me). The one problem was it’s a race weekend and there was barely anything available. Betta, Ron and Max decided to come down Monday and skip the race weekend. They found a reservation at POFQ starting Monday so I looked and I found one as well. I made sure my Dad wanted to come on the trip since we kind of forced his hand originally and he said of course he did not want to miss a vacation! So I booked POFQ from Monday November 7-Saturday November 12.
Heres a throwback picture of us visiting POFQ in 1997 :) Found it when I was looking through the old pictures (thats my cousin Jenny in the back, with Betta and I).
IMG_20160725_0008.jpg

I searched and searched the website for something race weekend and everything was so expensive I didn’t know what to do. Finally I found a semi-decent price on Orbitz for a hotel that my Mom suggested and Jill really wanted to stay at: The Polynesian!!!! It will only be from Saturday November 5th – Monday the 7th but it’s a dream come true for us!
Here we are at the Polynesian in 1997
IMG_20160725_0002.jpg

Everything seemed great until I started looking at flights. They were insanely expensive to fly out on Saturday but Jill has to work on Friday no exceptions so we couldn’t leave earlier. I am, however, on vacation the whole week before and my Mom is off on the Thursday and Friday before so we checked out flights and the vacation creep hit us hard…haha. It was actually cheaper for my Mom and I to fly out Friday and stay at a value resort than to fly on Saturday. I looked again and it was still cheaper to fly out Thursday and stay at a value so we added two extra days. We picked All Star Sports since it was the cheapest. We have stayed at the All Stars (Movies) before but not since the early 2000’s!
Here are some All Star Movies throwback pictures

AH! Something about this trip is making my brain feel fried.
Last week I was thinking to myself: hmm I wonder if I paid off the trip? I genuinely had no clue! I knew my family paid me what they owed for the trip but I could not remember if I paid the actual bill  I'm assuming it had to do with all the reservations I made, but something was telling me I did not pay it. So, I look online and I can't find it anywhere. I am reading that for room-only reservations you pay the balance when you check in. Oops ! That would be a guaranteed surprise if I went to check in and they are like you owe us $xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (obv not that many x's haha). Luckily I was able to pay it off on the phone and didn't have to worry about it!:p

THEN this morning I am reading through some TRs and I think to myself, did I ever book DME? We booked our flights pretty late in case prices went down so I was guessing no. Another "magical surprise" would be if we showed up to DME and didn't have a reservation :joyfull:
So I called Disney (again, they love me I'm sure) and I booked DME for my Mom and I for both arrival and departure, but could only book DME for my Dad and Jill on the way home. This is because I booked Poly through Orbitz so had to make the reservation through the DME website request (which I did not even know existed!). The CM on the phone was super nice, but was like three hotels?! :jawdrop: LOL!
My Mom said good thing I am on top of things, but I don't feel like I am!

WHAT ELSE AM I MISSING?!! haha

Well, we got the letter saying that the POFQ Food Court will be closed while we are there! I am surprised; I did not think it was going to last that long, but thats OK! Seems like they will still have a lot of food! May run into @Longers and @prfctlyximprct at Riverside after all :)
We also got a letter saying the one pool at All Stars Sports is closed. No biggie :) We probably won't spent that much time at that hotel anyway! I will trade off these closures for a hopeful Rivers of Light opening! :p

I am hoping so badly that rivers of light will finally be ready!! And I saw on Twitter that Bonfamilles was open, I guess it was the restaurant once at POFQ... It will be interesting to see that! And when you come over to our food court, it will be the best!! :)

I almost forgot to book DME and our cruise transfers for my trip in September. That would've been a fun surprise getting there and having no transfers...

I keep listening to tons of podcasts and the one Touring Plans one that has a big insider says that even October is hopeful for R of L :(

Ah! Right? I need to make a checklist of things to remember sometimes

I JUST READ THAT MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE IS GOING TO BE GONE WHEN WE ARE THERE
This is so sad! I know not everyone likes it, but it was my favorite :(
The only good thing that can come out of this is if magically Paint the Night comes our way

I know!!! I was sad, too. I was thinking the same thing about it being okay if the new parade was Paint the Night, but I read that it won't be that !
Guess we will have to wait and see. I'll be counting on your excellent trip reporting to inform me about whatever new nighttime parade is there on your next visit!

Well I know I said I would talk about training next, but I remembered I never talked about our loose plans/dining reservations :)

November 3

We leave Buffalo at 8 am and land around 10:30 am. We plan on going to Epcot for some Food and Wine fun.
View attachment 154428
We had a great time last year at the Festival and can't wait to try some new things! We have already been stalking the menus!
We have dinner reservations at 5:45 at the California Grill! Its so funny my Mom and I figured we would not make it to California Grill this trip, but when we were looking into going earlier price wise I happened to find a CG reservation for Thursday and that solidified going earlier than Saturday for us! Its our first night tradition! We may pop into MK after dinner :)

November 4
I think we may head back to Epcot again this day :) Hoping for Frozen or Soarin' FPs
May try and make it to the Race Expo at some point
We have dinner reservations at 8:20 for 'Ohana. I really want to try dinner here so I am excited! The only way we won't go to this is if the AK hours change drastically and I would miss R of L on our AK day. With @prfctlyximprct on this one...wish they would solidify the hours :)

November 5
MOVING TO THE POLYNESIAN!

Jill and my Dad leave Buffalo at 8:05 am and arrive at 10:40 am
Not sure what my Mom and I will be doing in the morning, but we will be heading to the race expo to pick up our packets when Jill and my Dad get there
View attachment 154429
Can't wait to look at all the merchandise!
We may head to the MK for the afternoon and for dinner we are planning on eating at Captain Cook's :)

November 6
RACE DAY!

Up early and run a race.....just 13 miles haha
I am anxiously awaiting the course map because we have no idea what this course is going to be now that its a morning race and half of HS is closed
Just my Mom, Jill and I will be running...maybe my Dad will meet us in the end !
Here we are at our first Run Disney event in Feb 2015!
View attachment 154430
After the race we will be relaxing and maybe popping over to the MK for a bit!
We plan on stopping at Trader Sam's in the evening then heading over to Epcot for the post-race party. I got my Dad a ticket so he can join us! It looks cool with bands and some of the rides being open during the party :)

November 7
Move to POFQ!

Betta, Max and Ron arrive around 11:30 am. Plan is for Epcot since this is probably the only day Betta, Max and Ron will get there
We have dinner reservations at Via Napoli at 4:40 pm for all of us (actually for 6 of us...I figured Max doesn't count too much..haha I made this reservation before I knew Ron was coming)

November 8
MK Day, hoping to sleep in a little because we will have a late night :)
1900 Park Fare 11:30 am for brunch
CHRISTMAS PARTY! WooHoo! I am excited for everyone to see this :) My Mom and I went before and we will definitely wear different shoes this time so we can enjoy it more haha. Hoping to get a better view of the parade this year
Also hoping to meet a few more characters
View attachment 154434

November 9
Hollywood Studios Day! Ron is a huge Star Wars fan so I am excited for him to see the Launch Bay and whatever else is around! Hoping they have Star Wars fireworks this night. I purposely picked Wednesday since they historically are on Wednesdays :)
Dinner at Mama Melroses for My Dad, Mom, Jill and I at 4:05
CAN NOT WAIT TO EAT THAT STEAK AGAIN!
And see my main man...

November 10
AK Day!!
Really wondering if Rivers of Light will be open, and what time!
For my Birthday Jill surprised me with a dinner reservation for Sanaa!!!! I am so excited!!!! We have reservations at 6:45 pm (for now, possible adjustment needed if R of L is open). Betta, Ron and Max have reservations for Morimoto Asia at 7-ish. My parents are planning on doing something at Disney Springs

November 11
Back to MK!
My parents, Jill and I have dinner reservations at Be Our Guest at 7:25 pm! I am pretty proud of getting this reservation. I looked constantly for it after Jill said she really wanted to try dinner there :)

November 12:
LAST DAY :(
Betta, Max and Ron leave very early in the morning. The rest of us leave at 2:30. Not sure what we plan on doing yet :)

Well, all in all considering I canceled almost every reservation I made at the 180 day mark (because of Ron coming on the trip) I am pretty pleased with how many reservations I managed to get. Just goes to show 180 days is less stressful but doesn't make it impossible to get things like BOG and 'Ohana !

Next up: In training for real this time !

Where is the Winnie the Pooh character meet n greet? My 1 year old is obsessed with Winnie the Pooh and she would love this. Is it near the ride at MK?

What great photos! Cannot believe they left the name of the manufacturer on the "cabins" at Fort Wilderness. Fleetwood is a major trailer, uh, mobile home manufacturer. After all, the cabins are really just a one bedroom single wide mobile home, with a log cabin skin.

I'm doing the Lumiere Challenge, along with the 5k. Hopefully I will run into you, figuratively, not literally, of course! Read that the monorail will be part of the transportation race days for this particular event, so lucky you for staying at the Poly. I'm at Boardwalk... and I wish they would let us walk to the starting point at Epcot from the Epcot resorts... that can be my warm up for the Half. :)

I know. I'm quite bummed about MSEP. There are tons of people who seem to hate it. I guess I just don't get it! :(

I don't get it either! I loved MSEP! I always listen to the music!

Ah no! I was wishing Pain the Night was coming here :( Guess we will have to wait and see the new parade then whatever it is!

This particular picture is from the Christmas party so thats why all the characters are there, but Tigger and Pooh meet regularly next to the Winnie the Pooh ride in the MK! (also the same spot they meet at the Christmas party!)

Is the race starting at Epcot? I can't find the course map! It used to start at the ESPN complex thing! I will definitely look out for you! I didn't even realize the manufacturer name was on the cabins

Ah, the frozen Princess weekend...I remember it well.... ;)

Actually it was warm our day of the half ! We missed the freezing cold :)

That is the $64,000 question, now that the half runs in the morning. runDisney announced that race guides would now be digital. Don't know if that means just the PDF they already provided or a nice interactive app. Not looking forward to having to scroll through a 50 page PDF document on my phone. If I remember, they usually email the waivers about 30 days before the race... and a PDF race guide around the same time. Every morning half starts at Epcot, so I will assume the Wine & Dine will also. Just wondering if you will run through AK, since the 5k is there. The Dark Side half ran through Epcot, HS, AK, ESPN.

Yeah, the temperature at start time for the 5k was a balmy 30 degrees or close to it... was projected to be upper 20s.

@Doc Disney, check the discussions in the Running at Disney forum - there is a thread (probably several, actually) on the Wine & Dine. If you ask, one of the regular posters can probably post a link to last year's W&D guide.

Join in the "What did you do" discussion, if you have time. Several of us are in training for upcoming races, so we discuss how that training is going, including various ailments that plague us... knees are the winners, lol.

Speaking of training, how's that going?

Yea I have seen the old race guides....I'm just waiting to see what happens with the new course :) I guess there is no point of the monorail being open if the race isn't starting at Epcot though so maybe thats a hint. I hope the course isn't the same as the the Princess Half Marathon. It would be nice to have a little variety! Training is going fine. Its been unreasonably warm (for us) here in Buffalo so we have been training semi-slow and having to adjust our schedule based on how hot it is. We will be fine when we get there, though!

Training can be a little ho-hum sometimes, in my opinion anyway :) We tend to run similar routes all the time for our long runs, so for shorter runs we try to mix it up!
The last few times we ran down by the water and found some fun along the way (Jill was not there for some of it)

Hello Jill!
IMG_2077.jpg

Anyway, have to find some way to incorporate fun into training!
Truth be told, though, it has been incredibly hot in Buffalo and very humid which is making it hard to train. We have been shuffling around training sessions because some of our long runs are too hot to finish! I keep seeing on the news there is no break coming with humidity
Well, maybe it will make us well prepared for Florida heat :p
We have also been training primarily on hills because we have a shady spot near our house that is all hills but all shady! That should help us when we get to flatter land :)

Ah! I wish it was time to make Fast Passes...this wait seems extra long !
