Pre-Trip The wait, who is coming and where are we staying PTR

Hello, hello!
Well, Disney sucked me in again and we are heading back to the World! Its funny how it started off with just my Mom and I being addicted and now the bug has hit my whole family :)

I usually break my introductions down into little sections, but planning this trip was so chaotic I think it deserves to be told as a whole story :) Put your seatbelt on, this is going to be a long ride!

Way back when in March (before our last trip) I was picking my vacations and decided to pick my time off to match the time of the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Jill and I always wanted to do that race so thought during my residency would be the best time to do it. So, the day came for sign ups and we both decided hey why not register? We can always defer a year if it doesn't work out
I raced home from work and before heading to my afternoon clinic spent a stressful 20 minutes registering for the half. This screen is so stressful! (Also, it says 9:03 am but I believe it was at 12).
IMG_1590.jpg

We knew my Mom would want to do it too so we signed her up, without telling her (aka the root of my stress, registering on 3 different computers for 2 spots haha). Jill and I fought over who had to tell her in case she would be mad (not sure why we thought that haha) and Jill lost so she told her and my Mom was thrilled! Woohoo this was going to be a great trip! We had so many options of where to stay and we planned on getting Annual Passes in May when we went so we would be all set!

Ok, fast forward a little bit and my sister Betta (Elizabeth is her real name) decided she could not miss another trip and she wanted to bring my nephew along too, but did not think her fiancé Ron could come. Yay! The baby is coming (oh and Betta too haha). For several reasons I wont get into we decided we would all stay in the same room and my Dad would join us.
Before telling my Dad the plan my Mom and I were in the car talking about how we would stay anywhere that was NOT Art of Animation. We just didn’t like that hotel for some reason. We were racking our brains where we could stay as a party of 6 and my Mom came up with Fort Wilderness. Great idea! This hotel holds sentimental value for us as it is the place we stayed for all of our early trips in the 90’s. Everyone was happy. So, we sat my Dad down at dinner and told him our plan and we may or may not have pushed him into saying yes :p
Here we are in the Fort Wilderness Pool in 1992

Then one night I was thinking about it and I realized Fort Wilderness doesn't have an actual food court for us to eat breakfast/lunch at and we won’t have a car. We considered maybe getting a grocery drop off or a golf cart but this didn’t make sense to us. I reluctantly suggested Art of Animation because this would mean two bathrooms, a food court and it was a bit cheaper. Everyone agreed to that so I canceled Fort Wilderness and booked Art of Animation. Everything was set! We went on our last trip, I booked the dining reservations during the trip (for 5 adults and an infant) and everything was great. Then, like two weeks after we got home my sister lets me know her fiancé is coming…..

Ok well, major change in plans, but its OK I can handle it! The first step was finding a hotel for four of us (Jill, my Mom, my Dad and me). The one problem was it’s a race weekend and there was barely anything available. Betta, Ron and Max decided to come down Monday and skip the race weekend. They found a reservation at POFQ starting Monday so I looked and I found one as well. I made sure my Dad wanted to come on the trip since we kind of forced his hand originally and he said of course he did not want to miss a vacation! So I booked POFQ from Monday November 7-Saturday November 12.
Heres a throwback picture of us visiting POFQ in 1997 :) Found it when I was looking through the old pictures (thats my cousin Jenny in the back, with Betta and I).

I searched and searched the website for something race weekend and everything was so expensive I didn’t know what to do. Finally I found a semi-decent price on Orbitz for a hotel that my Mom suggested and Jill really wanted to stay at: The Polynesian!!!! It will only be from Saturday November 5th – Monday the 7th but it’s a dream come true for us!
Here we are at the Polynesian in 1997

Everything seemed great until I started looking at flights. They were insanely expensive to fly out on Saturday but Jill has to work on Friday no exceptions so we couldn’t leave earlier. I am, however, on vacation the whole week before and my Mom is off on the Thursday and Friday before so we checked out flights and the vacation creep hit us hard…haha. It was actually cheaper for my Mom and I to fly out Friday and stay at a value resort than to fly on Saturday. I looked again and it was still cheaper to fly out Thursday and stay at a value so we added two extra days. We picked All Star Sports since it was the cheapest. We have stayed at the All Stars (Movies) before but not since the early 2000’s!
Here are some All Star Movies throwback pictures

I said to my Mom we should try to go down and see it one more time since we have Annual Passes. I think she thought I was joking so she laughed, but I was serious haha. :) Thanks for reading!

I just got caught up with your pre-trip report. I love that you are staying at three resorts this trip, including the Poly!! We stayed at two resorts on our last trip and let Disney transfer our bags for us. It went very well. We dropped off our bags at the AKL in the morning and they gave us a ticket that had the total number of bags. Later that day we checked with bell services at the GF and our bags were there. We had to bring the ticket to bell services to get them, but then they took us (and our bags) back to our room. Just make sure you keep what you need for the day because it could take a while for the bags to arrive.
I am looking to try to get one more trip in before our AP expires at the end of November. I know, it's getting late!!! I need you or @prfctlyximprct to do my planning for me. You guys seem to be planning experts!!
BTW, I am one of those people who don't like MSEP. That music is the worst!!! I would rather be stuck on IASW for hours than have to listen to the MSEP!!! :in pain: I can't wait to find out what (if anything) they are going to replace it with.

Just catching up! A few things:
  • I am one of those meanies who dislikes MSEP :D. I totally get why people like it, I just don't enjoy the music for it at all. Now FoF...I'd watch that 10x a day!
  • 3 resorts!! Sounds like fun. I'm so pumped for you getting to stay at the Poly! We're hopping for the first time this trip too, but we'll be able to move our own luggage, so I'm not worried. I really hope your moves go smoothly!
  • I feel ya on the running in humidity. I only run 2 times a week right now, and until the last couple of weeks I've been treadmillin it. I can finally stand to be outside because it's cooled down to high 80s, but it's still 90% humidity most days :cautious:. I can handle it if the sun isn't out. But you're right, it'll make you better prepared for running in Florida!
Looking forward to hearing more :) Wish I could be there at the same time as you and @prfctlyximprct!

I'm glad to hear the bag transfer went well! I am a little nervous after hearing so many stories but as long as we have our bathing suits with us we will be good to wait for the bags :) You can definitely plan a last minute trip in November :) Last November I booked 61 days out and got everything I wanted! I won't blame anyone for hating on MSEP! My Dad probably hates it too (although would not dare to admit it) since I walk about humming the song all the time!

Thats funny because I have never actually sat down to watch FoF ever, nor do I have a strong desire too. I read on someone's blog recently that they may actually be turning that into the night parade and that Paint the Night will not be coming to WDW :(
We are SO excited for the Poly! The Contemporary is for sure my dream resort, but I have always loved the Poly and my sister Jill has always wanted to stay there so I am happy we are able to! Thankfully it seems like the humidity is nearing its end! Hopefully that makes it easier! Wish you would be there too!

I am so excited! I happened to be stalking the Southwest website today and found that the prices for our flights down to Florida dropped significantly! I was able to re-book them and get a refund totally over $400! My mom and I extended our trip because of how expensive it was to fly out Saturday, but today the price dropped down to $121! Woohoo! We got an extended trip and my Dad and Jill got a big discount :) I actually got a small discount on my flight down too!

Hahaha, well if everyone liked the same stuff, I guess the world would be pretty boring! I'm really curious to see what replaces MSEP at Magic Kingdom. I have a feeling it'll be after the holidays though. Also, you can still see MSEP for a little bit!!! It's just another excuse to go to Disneyland again. I think a lot of people are happy to have it back there for a while.

Well thankfully we finally got a long run done today! We were making up for the 6.5 last week (only did 5) and ended up doing 7.2! Hooray! It was still very hot so we went kind of slow  Oh well!
Luckily the schedule works out that my Mom and I will only have to do 3 miles the night before our weekend trip :)

Speaking of training....

Yesterday was the 8 miler, according to Galloway's training program. I feel for you Northerners having some unseasonable hot, humid weather. But I live in Florida. Even though the trail I ran yesterday morning is canopied (trees along trail form a shaded "roof"), it was still hot, low 90s, so hot that i ended up walking 75℅ of the distance and that ended up being 7.84 miles. Come race time in November, temperatures should be (fingers crossed) in the upper 70s. Warm to y'all, but a cold snap for us Floridians. ;)

There is one reason, and one reason only, that I do not live in Florida: the humidity (well that and the fact that I am in residency in Buffalo and sign a contract to stay here for at least 3 years after...haha)! I don't know how you Southerners do it! We for sure get humidity, but usually its like 72 and humid. Not 90 and humid! blech!! We have been walking quite a bit too...it makes me nervous timing wise but we are still averaging well-ish under the 16 min mile mark so I think we are OK

My new pastime is checking the Southwest website. You never know when flight prices are going to drop! :)
One thing I recently discovered about rebooking on Southwest when a fare drops~
Yes, you receive a travel credit. But if you rebook the same flight several times (say the price dropped $10 the first week, $5 more the second and another $10 the third) you actually have 3 travel credits for that confirmation, not one total credit (of $25, using my example.) And since Southwest limits you to 4 payment types per booking, it can be hard to use up all those small credits before they expire. :bored:

I have actually been choosing the money back option so I haven't had to deal with the credit issue so thats good :)
