Pre-Trip The wait, who is coming and where are we staying PTR Part 2

Hi! Its me again! I am indeed going on a trip in a few weeks but I also have another trip coming up and I wanted to do a PTR to help organize my thoughts :joyfull:
So here we go!
Is it ever an entire family trip without confusion?
Some of you may remember our last big family trip in November of 2016. It was filled with last minute additions to the trip, at least 3 different resort changes, split stays because of resort changes etc etc.
THIS time I was prepared though. This trip has been in the works for at least 3.5 years (I will explain more on that later). We picked out the dates months and months ago....made sure it worked for everyone who wanted to come...booked rooms way back in July...and I gave EVERYONE involved a deadline for changes to who was coming. This deadline was the day before the 180 day booking window so that dining reservations would be all set..............................but were we all set?

On a random side note I was just looking back at my old TRs and my pictures are gone :cry::cry:
Anyway...

Lets start with why?:
Many moons ago when we were on our Princess Half Marathon trip we dreamed up this vacation. This was before we would fall into the Disney trap and go all the time so we thought we would plan a trip 3 years from then so that we wouldn't be sad :joyfull::joyfull: Funny that we went on 12 trips (and one Disneyland one) between then and now!
Anyway, the plan was we would go back to Disney to celebrate my Mom's 5 Year Cancer Free Anniversary. Technically we can't officially say she is 5 years yet so for now we will be saying 4 years until its true...but 5 years is a huge reason to celebrate cancer free because the risk of relapse drastically falls! So, my Mom always said when/if she makes it to 5 years we HAVE to celebrate in Disney :)

Well, I think I will stop here for now to organize the pictures I want to use. I will leave you in suspense of the drama :p

Next up: who...and another reason why

I tried to make my fast passes all one right after the other too!

I can't seem to get fastpasses for Toy Story mania on the 9th. I read it's suppose to be done the 7th... so I keep checking, hoping fast passes will open for the 9th before we go!

I've definitely done last minute trips with not much planning but I still pick up Fast Passes here and there it makes a difference for sure! I feel like the biggest misconception is that you can't be spontaneous but I have even done days where we just randomly pick a park to go go then picked up Fps as we went. You may not get the best of the best rides but I think people would be surprised how many Fps you can still get!
Totally. The thing is that sometimes you have to be flexible because you can't control everything. When we went in 2016, I had booked fastpasses for Turtle Talk with Crush, but when we got there, it wasn't busy and we didn't need the fastpass at all, so we were able to switch it to something else. And when we were in AK, the weather turned bad, and everything outdoors was closed, which meant the only things open were the shows. We had fastpasses for later in the day for Festival of the Lion King. So we moved up the fastpass for that, saw it right away, then went to lunch, then when we were supposed to have a fastpass for Nemo, it was pouring so hard we canceled it, and waited in Restaurantasaurus until we could at least walk outside with our ponchos and not still be soaked within seconds, and then rebooked fastpasses for Nemo. It all worked out well with the MDE app on our phones. So I'm a planner, but I have also learned to adapt. Spontaneous is all in how you see it. You can absolutely change plans if you need to, but if you want to do the most popular rides, it's best to at least have SOME plan of how to accomplish it.

I'm so excited!
We booked 2 new additions to our trip :)

1. Caring for Giants elephant tour :) I really wanted to do an AK tour again since we enjoyed the Trek so much...but we were definitely looking for a cheaper alternative. This is about an hour, has good reviews, is only $25 with the AP discount and is something even my Mom was willing to do :joyfull:

2. Star Wars fireworks dessert party on May 4 (aka May the 4th be with you :joyfull: ) As I told @sheriffwoody and @blgauger I booked this in the middle of the night a few weeks ago when I was on call and I was delusional with lack of sleep. I am actually really excited about it and made sure my Mom and Dad were on board. Last time we tried to do a dessert party with my Dad (Wishes) he left like 2 minutes into it so I am hopeful this one works out better :hilarious::happy:

I've heard nothing but good things about the Caring for Giants tour. And like you said, it's not very expensive, even without the ap discount. I might have to give it a try in May.

OOOOOH I can't wait to hear about the tour.

Thanks to you and the booze I was drinking, I'll see you at the dessert party :cautious::hilarious: We *might* cancel it. I'm keeping it for now because I mean I've paid for it. But it looks like you can cancel and get a refund, so I'm still thinking about it. I do think we would enjoy having a good spot for that show, I just hope the desserts are better than at the Happily Ever After dessert party.

@krause and I looooved the Caring for Giants tour! It was worth the price even without the AP discount and after the terrible Canadian exchange rate :joyfull: even just being able to see the backstage CM areas is cool. You’ll have so much fun!

LOL. I think I am definitely keeping it. The reviews are actually all good that I have read and they have more savory stuff than HEA (and cocktails!). Plus those Darth Vader cupcakes :p

WAIT WHAT?! I didn't know they had cocktails. That seals it. That is the main reason we liked the Illuminations one so much better! Cocktails, plus the savory options.

Ok....any things you can think of that we should pack for a toddler that aren't obvious?
Not that iv ever gone to Disney with kids but some helpful tips I picked up for a friend that travelled with children was plenty of zip lock bags for half eaten snacks, take a picture of what they are wearing in the park, (his kids were really bad for seeing something and running off), also something on them with your phone number so if they did run off a CM could easily contact you and finally glow bracelets for evening times.

I remember years ago as I was a child my cousin got separated from our group coming out of the Shamu show, in the sea (no pun intended) of people he just got lost, when we did find him a short time later he got the telling off of his life but only because everyone had been so worried looking for him.

Thank you guys! My sister got the temporary tattoos to put on Max with her phone number last night! We started panicking a little bit about it haha Last time he went he was only 15 months and not as mobile so I don't think we thought about it much. We also got glow sticks :) Thankfully ziplock bags are my speciality I carry like at least 10 everyday :joyfull:

For my daughter (almost 2) we picked up a Disney Misting fan bottle from Kohls with a coupon and gave it to her now to get use to for the trip. Also I am glad I read this because did not even think of the previous suggestions of picture of what wearing that day and the phone number!!
